Semi-global containment control of multi-agent systems with input saturation

This study investigates containment control of multi-agent systems with input saturation and multiple leaders on directed networks. Both state feedback and output feedback containment control protocols are designed via low-gain feedback approach. Under the assumption that the system is asymptotically null controllable with bounded controls and there exists at least one leader that has a directed path to each follower, semi-global state feedback and output feedback containment control of the multi-agent system can be attained. Numerical examples are provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the theoretical results. © The Institution of Engineering and Technology 2014.

High performance word level sequential and parallel coding methods and architectures for bit plane coding

This paper introduced a novel high performance algorithm and VLSI architectures for achieving bit plane coding （BPC） in word level sequential and parallel mode. The proposed BPC algorithm adopts the techniques of coding pass prediction and parallel ＆ pipeline to reduce the number of accessing memory and to increase the ability of concurrently processing of the system, where all the coefficient bits of a code block could be coded by only one scan. A new parallel bit plane architecture （PA） was proposed to achieve word-level sequential coding. Moreover, an efficient high-speed architecture （HA） was presented to achieve multi-word parallel coding. Compared to the state of the art, the proposed PA could reduce the hardware cost more efficiently, though the throughput retains one coefficient coded per clock. While the proposed HA could perform coding for 4 coefficients belonging to a stripe column at one intra-clock cycle, so that coding for an NxN code-block could be completed in approximate N2/4 intra-clock cycles. Theoretical analysis and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed designs have high throughput rate with good performance in terms of speedup to cost, which can be good alternatives for low power applications.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia, and early diagnosis is crucial for delaying and treating AD. Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), a widely used medical imaging technique, offers rich temporal and spatial data, which has led researchers to explore various feature extraction methods based on rs-fMRI images for AD identification. However, the related work still suffers from insufficient utilization of temporal and spatial information which leads to unsatisfactory early diagnosis. In this study, we propose a dual-branch fusion model to extract spatial-temporal features from rs-fMRI images. Our proposed model can extract temporal features at different levels. We developed a Class Activation Sequence (CAS) branch, which is a structure that emphasizes the function of each temporal node throughout the whole time series. Additionally, we created a time-domain local branch for local feature extraction. Further, we designed a fusion module for the model to describe temporal contextual relationships and fuse features at various levels. We tested the performance of the model on the ADNI dataset, and the experimental results show that compared with other algorithms, the dual-branch fusion model achieves higher classification accuracy on several classification tasks including early diagnosis, which proves the advantage of the dual-branch fusion model in temporal and spatial feature extraction for rs-fMRI images, and our work also provides a foundation for the temporal domain characterization of rs-fMRI images. © 2024 IEEE.

In the fields of information security, the application of random numbers is becoming more and more widespread. True random numbers (TRNs) tend to have better randomness and unpredictability than pseudo random numbers (PRNs). Chaotic systems are very suitable for constructing true random number generators (TRNG) due to their periodic infinity, randomicity, long-term unpredictability, high sensitivity to initial values and parameters, etc. However, when chaotic systems are implemented by finite state machines, their dynamic characteristics will disappear, such as periodic infinity and initial value sensitivity, and there are serious safety concerns about the random number generator designed on this basis. In order to address the degradation problem of the chaotic systems, this paper proposes a true random number generator based on the chaotic circuit, implements a complete hardware system, and tests its randomness. © 2022 SPIE.

In this paper, an omni-directional walking-aid robot is developed to assist the elderly in the daily living movements. A motion control strategy of walking-aid robot based on the observation of the human status through wearable sensors is proposed. During normal walking, the robot is controlled using a conventional admittance control scheme. When the tendency of a fall is detected, the robot will immediately react to prevent the user from falling down. The distance between the human Center of Pressure (COP) and the midpoint of the human feet is assumed to be a significant feature to detecting the fall events. When the user is in a quasi-static state or walking slowly, the COP can be approximated by the projection of Center of Gravity (COG) of the user's body. A simple and low-cost wearable sensor system is proposed to measure online the COG of the user. A limitation of the proposed wearable sensor system is that the Head-Arms-Torso (HAT) of the user is assumed to be always in upright position, which may generate measurement error. From comparison experiments with a reference optical system it is found that the measurement error is acceptable especially at the early stage of fall event. Dubois possibility theory is applied to describe the membership function of "normal walking" state. A threshold based fall detection approach is obtained from online evaluation of the walking status. Finally, experiments demonstrate the validity of the proposed strategy. © 2014 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

With the wide use of power conversion devices, harmonic currents are being injected into the power grid. Shunt Active Power Filters (SAPF) is a power electronic device to compensate the harmonic currents caused by nonlinear loads. As the foundation of the harmonics recognition and compensation, harmonic extraction techniques are becoming more and more important. This paper proposes a new harmonic extraction method based on the Echo state Networks (ESN). ESN is a new type of Recurrent Neural Networks (RNN), which has much faster training speed than other types of RNN. To evaluate the dynamic system modeling capability of the ESN, the ESN with different dynamic reservoir size are discussed. The performance of the ESN based harmonic extraction method is compared with traditional methods and method based on multilayer perceptron networks (MLP). The ESN algorithm is trained and tested in MATLAB. © 2011 IEEE.

Memristor has received significant attentions since Strukov et al released their invention on April 30, 2008 at Nature Letters. Based on the model of Strukov et al, analytic expression of the internal state is obtained by applying voltage to the device. By using the constant in the expression of the internal state, memory property of the memristor is explained. © 2011 IEEE.

The study of the second order motion in biological vision is a new source of inspiration for algorithms and research directions in computer vision. In this paper, the second order motion can be divided into three typical group according to the modulation types: spatial modulate motion, temporal modulate motion and spatio-temporal modulate motion. Experiments are conducted on the first order motion perception based on correlation model and the second order motion perception by correlation model preceded with a nonlinear process called texture grabber. The computational results are consistent with the previous suggestion that the second order motions are processed by nonlinear system.

There are many multi-objective planning problems in emergency decision-making domain. HTN planners were widely used in emergency decision-making, while they have limited ability to solve optimization, especially multi-objective optimization. Aimed to handling multi-objective in HTN planners, this paper proposes a novel method based on SHOP2, which is a domain-independent state-based forward HTN planner. The method uses a weighted vector to mirror the decision maker's performance for various objectives and an anytime search algorithm to improve the ability to find the best solution plan. Finally, a case of emergency evacuation is given to testify the effectiveness of the method. © 2013 IEEE.

Learning Probabilistic Coordinate Fields for Robust Correspondences

We introduce Probabilistic Coordinate Fields (PCFs), a novel geometric-invariant coordinate representation for image correspondence problems. In contrast to standard Cartesian coordinates, PCFs encode coordinates in correspondence-specific barycentric coordinate systems (BCS) with affine invariance. To know when and where to trust the encoded coordinates, we implement PCFs in a probabilistic network termed PCF-Net, which parameterizes the distribution of coordinate fields as Gaussian mixture models. By jointly optimizing coordinate fields and their confidence conditioned on dense flows, PCF-Net can work with various feature descriptors when quantifying the reliability of PCFs by confidence maps. An interesting observation of this work is that the learned confidence map converges to geometrically coherent and semantically consistent regions, which facilitates robust coordinate representation. By delivering the confident coordinates to keypoint/feature descriptors, we show that PCF-Net can be used as a plug-in to existing correspondence-dependent approaches. Extensive experiments on both indoor and outdoor datasets suggest that accurate geometric invariant coordinates help to achieve the state of the art in several correspondence problems, such as sparse feature matching, dense image registration, camera pose estimation, and consistency filtering. Further, the interpretable confidence map predicted by PCF-Net can also be leveraged to other novel applications from texture transfer to multi-homography classification. © 1979-2012 IEEE.
