A new parallel-based lifting algorithm (PBLA) for the 9/7 filters, exploring the parallelism of arithmetic operations in each lifting step, was proposed in this paper. It shortened significantly the critical path of computation, and resulted in a fast VLSI implementation architecture. In comparison with the conventional lifting algorithm based implementation (CLABI), the latency is reduced by more than half from (4T/sub m/ + 8T/sub a/) to (T/sub m/ + 4T/sub a/), which is competitive to that of convolution based implementation CBI, and can be further reduced to Tm by inserting 3 stages of pipeline. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed architecture has good performances in both speed and area.

This paper focuses on route planning, especially for unmanned aircrafts in marine environment. Firstly, new heuristic information is adopted such as threat-zone, turn maneuver and forbid-zone based on voyage heuristic information. Then, the cost function is normalized to obtain more flexible and reasonable routes. Finally, an improved sparse A* search algorithm is employed to enhance the planning efficiency and reduce the planning time. Experiment results showed that the improved algorithm for aircraft in maritime environment could find a combinational optimum route quickly, which detoured threat-zones, with fewer turn maneuver, totally avoiding forbid-zones, and shorter voyage.

Presents an efficient method which uses two neighboring frames in image sequences for target identification. Using statistical information about the background noise and candidate regions' noise after background registration, we can determine those candidate regions that have the same or similar noise distributions to the background's which should be background regions, and those candidate regions that have different noise distributions from the background's which should be the target region. In particular, when there is only one target in the image, we can simply determine that the candidate region whose noise distribution is most different from the background's is the true target.

A new technique is presented for computing continuous shape transformations between polyhedral objects. The polyhedron shape transformations can be divided into polyhedron metamorphosis and bi-directional local rigid body rotation transformation. By decomposing two objects into sets of individual convex sub-objects respectively, and establishing the matching between two subsets, the approach can solve the metamorphosis problem of two non-homotopic objects (including concave objects and holey objects). Compared with other methods, this metamorphosis algorithm can be executed automatically for arbitrary polyhedrons and no need user interaction. The user has the ability to choose an automatic matching or to select interactively pairs of corresponding matching convex subsets to obtain special effects. Experiments show that this method can generate natural, high-fidelity, eye-pleasing metamorphosis results with simple computation.

This paper introduces the new qualitative and quantitative methods, which can diagnose breast tumors. Qualitative methods include blood vessel display inside and outside of pathological changes part of breast, display of equivalent pixel curves at the part of pathological changes and display of breast tumor image edge. Accordingly, three feature extraction operators are proposed, i.e. the combination operators of anisotropic gradient and smoothing operator, an improved Sobel operator and an edge sharpening operator. Furthermore, quantitative diagnostic approaches are discussed based on blood and oxygen contents according to abundant clinical data and pathological mechanism of breast tumors. The results of clinic show that the methods of combining qualitative and quantitative diagnose are effective for breast tumor images, especially for early and potential breast cancer

FCM-RDpA: TSK fuzzy regression model construction using fuzzy C-means clustering, regularization, droprule, and powerball adabelief

To effectively optimize Takagi-Sugeno-Kang (TSK) fuzzy systems for regression problems, a mini-batch gradient descent with regularization, DropRule, and AdaBound (MBGD-RDA) algorithm was recently proposed. This paper further proposes FCM-RDpA, which improves MBGD-RDA by replacing the grid partition approach in rule initialization by fuzzy c-means clustering, and AdaBound by Powerball AdaBelief, which integrates recently proposed Powerball gradient and AdaBelief to further expedite and stabilize parameter optimization. Extensive experiments on 22 regression datasets with various sizes and dimensionalities validated the superiority of FCM-RDpA over MBGD-RDA, especially when the feature dimensionality is higher. We also propose an additional approach, FCM-RDpAx, that further improves FCM-RDpA by using augmented features in both the antecedents and consequents of the rules. Copyright © 2020, The Authors. Matching confidence is an important element for evaluating image matching quality. A method is presented which uses the technique of tests of hypotheses to determine image matching confidence under a certain testing level. The authors use similarity measurement values to be the statistics. Experimental results with large real images prove the effectiveness of the method to determine image matching confidence.

Stroke and heart attack, which could be led by a kind of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease named asatherosclerosis, would seriously cause human morbidity and mortality. And the carotid artery of intima-media thickness (IMT) is a key indicator to the disease. With the development of computer assisted diagnosis (CAD) technology, Ultrasound imaging, being real-time, economic, reliable, safe, and now seems to become a standard in vascular assessment methodology especially for the measurement of IMT. This review is an attempt to discuss the clinical relevance of measurements in clinical practice at first, and then followed by the challenges that one has to face when approaching the segmentation of ultrasound images. Secondly, the paper is presentation of common used methods for the IMT segmentation and measurement. An overview of summary and future perspectives is given in conclusion finally.

A hybrid method is used to evaluate atherosclerosis through a mathematical morphology approach and GVF-Snake method. Common carotid artery (CCA) segmentation requires outlining the intima and adventitia contours on the transverse view of B-mode ultrasound (US) images. The lumen and adventitia contours are segmented using a morphology and GVF-Snake methods, respectively. Upon analyzing ten separate patient data sets demonstrate that a comparison between the proposed method and the traditional approach (manual contouring) on 110 transverse images of the CCA showed a mean absolute distance (MAD) of 0.67±0.17mm for lumen and 0.64 ± 0.19mm for adventitia. Their Dice Similarity Coefficient (DSC) values are 92.7%±2.3% and 90.3%±3.5% for lumen and adventitia segmentation, respectively. These values are in good agreement with clinical standards.
