In this paper, the H∞ consensus of fractional-order multi-agent systems with directed communication graph is investigated. It's the first time to introduce the H∞ control to investigate the consensus problem of the fractional-order multi-agent systems. In view of Mittag-Leffler stability theory and fractional Lyapunov directed method, a sufficient condition is presented to guarantee all the agents reach consensus with the desired H∞ performance. Finally, the results are verified by several numerical simulations.

Developing computer vision–based rice phenotyping techniques is crucial for precision field management and accelerating breeding, thereby continuously advancing rice production. Among phenotyping tasks, distinguishing image components is a key prerequisite for characterizing plant growth and development at the organ scale, enabling deeper insights into eco-physiological processes. However, due to the fine structure of rice organs and complex illumination within the canopy, this task remains highly challenging, underscoring the need for a high-quality training dataset. Such datasets are scarce, both due to a lack of large, representative collections of rice field images and the time-intensive nature of annotation. To address this gap, we established the first comprehensive multi-class rice semantic segmentation dataset, RiceSEG. We gathered nearly 50,000 high-resolution, ground-based images from five major rice-growing countries (China, Japan, India, the Philippines, and Tanzania), encompassing over 6,000 genotypes across all growth stages. From these original images, 3,078 representative samples were selected and annotated with six classes (background, green vegetation, senescent vegetation, panicle, weeds, and duckweed) to form the RiceSEG dataset. Notably, the sub-dataset from China spans all major genotypes and rice-growing environments from the northeast to the south. Both state-of-the-art convolutional neural networks and transformer-based semantic segmentation models were used as baselines. While these models perform reasonably well in segmenting background and green vegetation, they face difficulties during the reproductive stage, when canopy structures are more complex and multiple classes are involved. These findings highlight the importance of our dataset for developing specialized segmentation models for rice and other crops. The RiceSEG dataset is publicly available at ***. © 2025, CC BY.

To regain mobility, stroke patients need to receive repetitive and intensive therapy. Robot-assisted rehabilitation is an active area of research. Cheap robotic leg rehabilitation devices should be developed to meet the demands and assist most patients. A low cost hip-knee exoskeleton prototype powered by pneumatic muscles was developed. On this basis, Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) induced paralyzed muscles to realize ankle joint rehabilitation training. As both of pneumatic muscle and FES induced muscle possess highly nonlinear characteristics, a sliding control algorithm called Chattering mitigation Robust Variable control (CRVC) was applied to leg hybrid rehabilitation. The combination of exoskeleton and FES is a promising way to reduce the cost and the complexity of designing hip-knee-ankle exoskeleton. The proposed hybrid method is verified by treadmill-based gait training experiments.

In this study we modified the local binary pattern operator (LBP) to obtain the robust invariant texture patterns for image texture classification. The modified method will be able to calculate patterns which are invariant for translation, scaling, rotation and reflection. Therefore, the modified LBP is called R-LBP. Although many variation of LBP have been proposed, most of them cannot detect and recognize the patterns of reflection. Both clockwise and counter clockwise coding is used in the proposed R-LBP operator in order to derive a minimum code to representing the pattern. Experimental results show that the proposed method is effective in determining the invariant patterns for image texture classification. © 2015 ACM.

A heuristically accelerated multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm applied to flow line maintenance scheduling

This paper investigates the maintenance scheduling problem in a flow line system consisting of two series machines with a finite buffer in between. The machines deteriorate with age and have multiple deteriorating quality states represented by multiple decreasing yield levels. The maintenance problem of both machines is modeled as semi-Markov decision processes. A heuristically accelerated multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm with a feature of incorporating heuristic function for action selection is developed to produce a reasonable maintenance scheduling. A comparison with a Ε-greedy search based exploration algorithm, a simulated annealing search based exploration algorithm, a tabu search based exploration algorithm and a neighborhood search based exploration algorithm in reinforcement learning is presented. The results indicate that the proposed heuristically accelerated multi-agent reinforcement learning algorithm is competitive and has a certain advantage for larger problems. A novel statistical method using path integral Monte Carlo simulation based on quantum mechanics to detect edges of interested objects was proposed in this paper. Our method was inspired by essential characteristics of quantum, and based on the quantum particle movement evolved towards the edge position with high probability density in the gradient-based image potential field. The discussion about computational complexity and parameter settings demonstrated the feasibility and robustness of our method. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.

An improved character segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive thresholding technique for Chinese NvShu documents

For the structural characteristics of Chinese NvShu character, by combining the basic idea in LLT local threshold algorithm and introducing the maximal betweenclass variance algorithm into local windows, an improved character segmentation algorithm based on local adaptive thresholding technique for Chinese NvShu documents was presented in this paper. Because of designing the corresponding correction parameters for the threshold and using secondary search mechanism, our proposed method could not only automatically obtain local threshold, but also avoid the loss of the character image information and improve the accuracy of the character image segmentation. Experimental results demonstrated its capability to reduce the effect of background noise, especially for Chinese NvShu character images with uneven illumination and low contrast. © 2014 Academy Publisher.
