Background: Hearing loss affects access to spoken language, which can affect cognition and development, and can negatively affect social wellbeing. We present updated estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study on the prevalence of hearing loss in 2019, as well as the condition's associated disability. Methods: We did systematic reviews of population-representative surveys on hearing loss prevalence from 1990 to 2019. We fitted nested meta-regression models for severity-specific prevalence, accounting for hearing aid coverage, cause, and the presence of tinnitus. We also forecasted the prevalence of hearing loss until 2050. Findings: An estimated 1·57 billion (95% uncertainty interval 1·51–1·64) people globally had hearing loss in 2019, accounting for one in five people (20·3% [19·5–21·1]). Of these, 403·3 million (357·3–449·5) people had hearing loss that was moderate or higher in severity after adjusting for hearing aid use, and 430·4 million (381·7–479·6) without adjustment. The largest number of people with moderate-to-complete hearing loss resided in the Western Pacific region (127·1 million people [112·3–142·6]). Of all people with a hearing impairment, 62·1% (60·2–63·9) were older than 50 years. The Healthcare Access and Quality (HAQ) Index explained 65·8% of the variation in national age-standardised rates of years lived with disability, because countries with a low HAQ Index had higher rates of years lived with disability. By 2050, a projected 2·45 billion (2·35–2·56) people will have hearing loss, a 56·1% (47·3–65·2) increase from 2019, despite stable age-standardised prevalence. Interpretation: As populations age, the number of people with hearing loss will increase. Interventions such as childhood screening, hearing aids, effective management of otitis media and meningitis, and cochlear implants have the potential to ameliorate this burden. Design of a high speed drawing frame monitoring system based on IoT using MQTT protocol

Online monitoring for sliver quality is an important part of the drawing process. This paper presents a high-speed drawing frame monitoring system based on Internet of Things (IoT) using Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, which consists of drawing frame IoT terminal equipment, the cloud server and PC or mobile terminal equipments. Drawing frame IoT terminal equipment takes Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4 of series of ***7 as its control cores. The A7 processor publishes IoT data as a communication gateway while the M4 processor collects sensor data and executes local on-line detection program. Two processors run Linux and FreeRTOS as operating system respectively, and the data exchange between them adopt rpmsg pattern. The communication gateway using MQTT publishes data of the IoT terminal to the cloud server for remoting monitoring and intelligent diagnosis, when the local on-line detection system aims at acquiring real-time status of the sliver on drawing frame. Users can check the real-time status of the drawing frame at the subscription end of IoT and on the computer or mobile phone end by subscribing message by theme. Experiments show that the system operates with reliability, and is good compatible with other devices because of the modular design. The adoption of this system can promote the digitization and the intelligentialize of the drawing frame.

Background: Experimental and epidemiological studies indicate an association between exposure to particulate matter (PM) air pollution and increased risk of type 2 diabetes. In view of the high and increasing prevalence of diabetes, we aimed to quantify the burden of type 2 diabetes attributable to PM_2·5 originating from ambient and household air pollution. Methods: We systematically compiled all relevant cohort and case-control studies assessing the effect of exposure to household and ambient fine particulate matter (PM_2·5) air pollution on type 2 diabetes incidence and mortality. We derived an exposure–response curve from the extracted relative risk estimates using the MR-BRT (meta-regression—Bayesian, regularised, trimmed) tool. The estimated curve was linked to ambient and household PM_2·5 exposures from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019, and estimates of the attributable burden (population attributable fractions and rates per 100 000 population of deaths and disability-adjusted life-years) for 204 countries from 1990 to 2019 were calculated. We also assessed the role of changes in exposure, population size, age, and type 2 diabetes incidence in the observed trend in PM_2·5-attributable type 2 diabetes burden. All estimates are presented with 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, approximately a fifth of the global burden of type 2 diabetes was attributable to PM_2·5 exposure, with an estimated 3·78 (95% uncertainty interval 2·68–4·83) deaths per 100 000 population and 167 (117–223) disability-adjusted life-years (DALYs) per 100 000 population. Approximately 13·4% (9·49–17·5) of deaths and 13·6% (9·73–17·9) of DALYs due to type 2 diabetes were contributed by ambient PM2·5, and 6·50% (4·22–9·53) of deaths and 5·92% (3·81–8·64) of DALYs by household air pollution. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic highlighted gaps in health surveillance systems, disease prevention, and treatment globally. Among the many factors that might have led to these gaps is the issue of the financing of national health systems, especially in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs), as well as a robust global system for pandemic preparedness. We aimed to provide a comparative assessment of global health spending at the onset of the pandemic;characterise the amount of development assistance for pandemic preparedness and response disbursed in the first 2 years of the COVID-19 pandemic;and examine expectations for future health spending and put into context the expected need for investment in pandemic preparedness. Methods: In this analysis of global health spending between 1990 and 2021, and prediction from 2021 to 2026, we estimated four sources of health spending: development assistance for health (DAH), government spending, out-of-pocket spending, and prepaid private spending across 204 countries and territories. We used the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD)'s Creditor Reporting system (CRS) and the WHO Global Health Expenditure Database (GHED) to estimate spending. We estimated development assistance for general health, COVID-19 response, and pandemic preparedness and response using a keyword search. Health spending estimates were combined with estimates of resources needed for pandemic prevention and preparedness to analyse future health spending patterns, relative to need. Findings: In 2019, at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, US$9·2 trillion (95% uncertainty interval [UI] 9·1–9·3) was spent on health worldwide. We found great disparities in the amount of resources devoted to health, with high-income countries spending $7·3 trillion (95% UI 7·2–7·4) in 2019;293·7 times the $24·8 billion (95% UI 24·3–25·3) spent by low-income countries in 2019. Improving Auction Mechanisms for Online Real-Time Bidding Advertising with a Two-stage Resale Model

Real Time Bidding (RTB), widely publicized as one of the most promising big-data-driven business models for online computational advertising, has the potential of effectively monetizing user clicks and impressions via two-stage auctions with resale. Demand side platforms (DSPs) play a key role as intermediators in this auction process. Typically, the first-stage auctions will be conducted separately in each DSP to determine one winning advertiser registered on it, and in the second-stage auction, each DSP submits a bid based on its winning advertiser's bid to the ad exchange platform (AdX). The highest-bid DSP wins the ad impression from AdX and resells it to its winning advertiser in pursuit of the intermediate fee. This two-stage resale auction is a critical component in maintaining the effectiveness and efficiency of RTB ecosystems. In this paper, we strive to identify and design potential improvements for this auction mechanism with the aim of enhancing the total revenue of both advertisers and DSPs. We also validated our proposed auction mechanisms using the computational experiment approach. The experimental results indicate that our proposed mechanisms can make both advertisers and DSPs better off. Our work represents the first step towards a new research area of optimal mechanism design for RTB auctions, and is expected to provide useful managerial insights in RTB market practice. © 2017

Immersing into virtual reality (VR) is a perception of being physically present in a non-physical world. Using immersive VR in maintenance brings great conveniences. For example, using virtual human operating in hazardous environment before the real person, which can prevent being hurt. In this paper, a system of immersive virtual maintenance (IVM) is presented. It is divided into three parts. The first part is Input, which contains the maintenance task and maintenance design. The second part is Method, with which making the virtual human and the users act in a unified way. The key to build IVM system is the interface between the motion capture system and virtual simulation software. The third part is Output, which presents the maintainability evaluation results. This paper focuses on how to build IVM system, the difficulties and solutions also be detailed. At last, a simple application is given

Lung adenocarcinoma is the most common type of lung cancer. Known risk variants explain only a small fraction of lung adenocarcinoma heritability. Here, we conducted a two-stage genome-wide association study of lung adenocarcinoma of East Asian ancestry (21,658 cases and 150,676 controls; 54.5% never-smokers) and identified 12 novel susceptibility variants, bringing the total number to 28 at 25 independent loci. Transcriptome-wide association analyses together with colocalization studies using a Taiwanese lung expression quantitative trait loci dataset (n = 115) identified novel candidate genes, including FADS1 at 11q12 and ELF5 at 11p13. In a multi-ancestry meta-analysis of East Asian and European studies, four loci were identified at 2p11, 4q32, 16q23, and 18q12. At the same time, most of our findings in East Asian populations showed no evidence of association in European populations. In our studies drawn from East Asian populations, a polygenic risk score based on the 25 loci had a stronger association in never-smokers vs. individuals with a history of smoking (P = 0.0058). These findings provide new insights into the etiology of lung adenocarcinoma in individuals from East Asian populations, which could be important in developing translational applications.

The Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei （BTH） region is one of the most heavily polluted regions in China, with both high PM2.5 concentrations and a high population density. A quantitative source-receptor relationship can provide valuable insights that can inform effective emission control strategies. Both source appor- tionment （SA） and source sensitivity （SS） can provide such information from different perspectives. In this study, both methods are applied in northern China to identify the most significant emission cate- gories and source regions for PMz5 exposure in BTH in 2013. Despite their differences, both models show similar distribution patterns for population and simulated PM2.5 concentrations, resulting in overall high PM2.5 exposure values （approximately 110 Ixg/m3） and particularly high exposure values during the win- ter （approximately 200 ktg/m3）. Both methods show that local emissions play a dominant role （70%）, with some contribution from surrounding provinces （e.g., Shandong） via regional transport. The two methods also agree on the priority of local emission controls： both identify industrial, residential, and agricultural emissions as the top three categories that should be controlled locally. In addition, the effect of control- ling agricultural ammonia emissions is approximately doubled when the co-benefits of reducing nitrate are considered. The synthesis of SA and SS for addressing specific categories of emissions provides a quantitative basis for the development of emission control strategies and policies for controlling PM2.5 in China.
