Bivariate distribution construction method and its application to structural parallel system reliability analysis

This paper aims to study the errors of the method P and method S. Firstly, method P and method S as well as the exact method are presented. Thereafter, the formulae for system probability of failure based on direct integration are derived. Finally, an illustrative example is investigated to demonstrate the errors associated with the two methods. The results indicate that the errors in system probabilities of failure for the two methods highly depend on the level of system probability of failure, the performance function underlying the system and the degree of correlation. Such errors increase greatly with the decreasing of system probabilities of failure. When the target system probability of failure is above 1.0×10-3, the errors in the system probabilities of failure obtained from the two methods are significant, implying that the two approximate methods should be used carefully. The errors in system probability of failure for negative correlated performance functions are significantly higher than those for positive correlated performance functions. The maximum error in the system probability of failure may not be associated with a large correlation. It can happen at an intermediate correlation.

The self-propagation synthesis (SHS) technology is characterized exclusively in multiple aspects, including: higher reaction rate, simplified procedure, shortened flow-process, facilitated process, lower energy consumption and remote control. In order to evaluate the performance of the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS) to treat An 3+ - contained radioactive graphite in N2 atmosphere, in our study, with the exothermic reaction (3C + 4Al + 3TiO 2 = 2Al 2 O 3 + 3TiC + Q), we used the following raw powdery materials including graphite (C), aluminum (Al), titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) and neodymium oxide (Nd 2 O 3 , where Nd 3+ was used to simulate An 3+ ). After a serial pretreatment including mixing, refinement and formation, a self-developed SHS reactive facility was used to prepare the simulated waste form for the An 3+ -contained radioactive graphite. Then, X-ray diffractometer(XRD) and scanning electron microscope (SEM) were used to test and analyze the morphology, phase composition and solid solubility of the prepared waste forms. According to the results, the samples with the adding Nd 2 O 3 of 0∼16 wt % could maintain the self-sustainable reaction. And in the designed reaction, the Nd 2 O 3 solid solubility was 1 wt %. The samples were mainly in pieces, with grain sized mainly in 5∼10 μm. The samples without adding Nd 2 O 3 content were composed of Al 2 O 3 , TiC, C, TiO 2 and AlN. With adding Nd 2 O 3 content of 1 wt %, the samples were composted of Al 2 O 3 , TiC, C, TiO 2 , AlN and NdAlO 3 . While in case of adding Nd 2 O 3 content of over 1 wt %, the occurrence of the Nd 2 O 3 phase was observed in the XRD patterns of the samples.

Current methods of remotely sensed image change detection almost assume that the DEM of the surface objects do not change. However, for the geological disasters areas (such as: landslides, mudslides and avalanches, etc.), this assumption does not hold. And the traditional approach is being challenged. Thus, a new theory for change detection needs to be extended from two-dimensional (2D) to three-dimensional (3D) urgently. This paper aims to present an innovative scheme for change detection method, object-oriented simultaneous three-dimensional geometric and physical change detection (OOS3DGPCD) using GIS-guided knowledge. This aim will be reached by realizing the following specific objectives: a) to develop a set of automatic multi-feature matching and registration methods;b) to propose an approach for simultaneous detecting 3D geometric and physical attributes changes based on the object-oriented strategy;c) to develop a quality control method for OOS3DGPCD;d) to implement the newly proposed OOS3DGPCD method by designing algorithms and developing a prototype system. For aerial remotely sensed images of YingXiu, Wenchuan, preliminary experimental results of 3D change detection are shown so as to verify our approach. © 2013 Universitas Ahmad Dahlan.

Water culture experiment was adopted to investigate the effects of U and Cod combined stress at different concentrations on the uptake and accumulation of U and Cod and physiological and biochemical characteristics in wheat seedlings. The experiment results showed that the U and Cod uptake by wheat seedlings was higher in roots than in aboveground parts when the total concentration of U and Cod was 5 mg/kg or 20 mg/kg, and the transfer factors(TFs) of U and Cod in wheat seedlings were above 1 when the total concentration was 100 mg/kgBut low concentration of U and Cod were rarely accumulated in wheat seedlings, indicating that wheat seedlings have good tolerance to U and Cod combined stress at low concentration. The experiment results also showed that with the increase in the total concentration of U and Cod, the root activity of wheat seedlings first increased and then decreased, and it exhibited a significant increase when the concentration was 20 mg/kgAlso, with the increase in concentration, the chlorophyll content of wheat seedlings first increased and then decreased, while the SOD activity first decreased and then increased.

The electromagnetic radiation characteristic of the Koch fractal dipole antenna is analyzed, the logical assumption that the current along the Koch fractal dipole antenna obeys sine distribution is demonstrated, and the approximate expression of the magnetic vector potential of the Koch fractal dipole antenna is obtained. Using the magnetic vector potential, the far electromagnetic field is simulated, and the simulated results are compared with those obtained from the traditional symmetrical dipole antenna. For electrically large or electrically equivalent antennas, the results indicate that the electrical length of the Koch fractal dipole antenna has little influence on the radiation patterns. By using of this conclusion, the size of antennas can be reduced, as well as the least gain of antenna is satisfied. Therefore, it will be good for analytical design of multi-band and multi-functional antennas using fractal geometries. Finally, the rationalities of formulas and computations are validated by CST simulation.

Route selection for dangerous goods transportation can be seen as a multicriteria decision making problem. In this paper, a new model of dangerous goods transportation is proposed under uncertain environment. Not only the cost but also population density, emergency response capacity and mileage of the route are taken into consideration in the proposed model. An empirical study is carried out for transportation of nuclear waste in the road network of China, and the results show the railway is better than highway route in China. © 2012 ICIC International.

The biosorption of strontium ions by immobilization, unimmobilized yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) cells with calcium alginate and blank calcium alginate beads were studied in this research. The results showed that the beads of sodium alginate had certain ability of absorption of strontium ions; the biosorption of strontium ions by unimmobilized yeast cells was more stable, but the rate was slow at low concentrations; the biosorption by immobilized yeast was best, the biosorption may reach 80% at low strontium ions concentrations (10 mg/L). The biosorption rates of immobilized and unimmobilized yeast cells reached the same degree at the end. The Freundlich model was better than Langmuir model to describe the equilibrium isotherm. The pseudo-second-level model was fit to analysis the biosorption kinetics. The results indicated that calcium alginate can be used as the good immobilization vector for yeast cells and the immobilized and unimmobilized yeast cells showed better biosorption capacity at low strontium ions concentration under culture condtions. © 2011 IEEE.

In order to treat wastewater from uranium metallurgy , the chemical neutralization with slaked lime was experimented. The results illustrated that the effects of removal of uranium and thorium are obvious and can meet radioactive wastewater discharged standard, as well as other heavy metal ion and nonmetal ion, such as Mn, Fe, Pb, As, F can meet surface wastewater discharged standard. Moreover, the primary elements species and saturation indices of minerals in acidic solution can be calculated by geochemistry model PHREEQC, which indicated that the rock-water interaction mechanism between various minerals and water environment during treatment operation. © 2011 IEEE.

Spacecraft assembly plays an important role in spacecraft production process. Accidents in spacecraft assembly can cause product damage and worker injury, which delay the schedule of production and increase the manufacture cost, therefore, safety analysis and research on risk assessment model of spacecraft assembly have great significance to assuring of quality and schedule of spacecraft manufacture, as well as to reducing cost of spacecraft manufacture. International researches on spacecraft assembly safety and reliability are introduced. Relations and distinctions of safety and reliability of system are discussed further based on existing research and it is stressed that analytical contents in safety assessment of spacecraft assembly are not just confined to system function inability caused by component faults because human fault, system design, and environmental elements all can result in casualties, property damage or environmental pollution. Finally, a spacecraft assembly systematic safety analysis and quantitative risk assessment model is put forward which includes 4 steps:1) work procedures and tasks decomposition;2)development of Safety Analysis Graph for each task;3) development of spacecraft assembly Hazards Identification and Accident Prediction Database System;4) development of spacecraft assembly Safety Assessment Index System. The model can be validated by the actual satellites manufactured and utilized to predict accidents of spacecraft assembly correctly. © 2011 IEEE.
