Emotion entrainment refers to the phenomenon that people gradually synchronize to other's emotion states through social interactions. Previous studies mainly focus on conducting laboratory experiments or small-scale offline surveys. Large-scale empirical studies on real-world emotion entrainment among individuals are still to be explored. Especially, determinants that influence this process are not clear. Also, how emotion evolves among people in a large scale population is still unknown. In this study, we attempt to conduct a large-scale empirical analysis on emotion entrainment based on online social media information. For this purpose, we develop a model-free framework to measure entrainment strength among people. Experimental results indicate that interaction partners with strong reciprocal entrainment tend to assume similar emotion states, and negative emotion is more empathetic in an intimate relationship. Especially, when the relationship is balanced, users are more emotionally similar to each other.

The effects of signal modality (visual and auditory), hand condition (crossed and uncrossed), and head orientation (upright, right-90, left-90, and left back) on response performance were e xamined in this study. The results showed all the factors significantly affected the reaction time of participants and there was an interaction effect between signal modality and head orientation. Responses for visual signals were significantly faster than those for auditory signals, and responses made with uncrossed hand were superior to those with crossed hand. On head orientation, upright orientation produced the fastest reaction time, while reaction time for head rotated 90° right (right-90) was significantly faster than that for head rotated 90° left (left-90) and rotated left backward (left back). Regarding the significant interaction effect between signal modality and head orientation, processing time for visual signals was always faster than that for auditory signals. Such modality superiority increased to a larger extent under the left 90 and left back head orientations. The findings in this experiment provide some practical ergonomics recommendations for improving control console design in terms of signal-response layout, stimulus-hand arrangement, head orientation, and methods of presenting visual and auditory signals.

Traffic control is an effective and efficient method for the problem of traffic congestion. For complex urban traffic networks, it is necessary to design a high-level controller to regulate the traffic demands. Under the parallel control framework for complex traffic networks, we design a demand-balance MPC controller based on the MFD-based multi-subnetwork model, which can optimize the network traffic mobility and the network traffic throughput by regulating the input traffic flows of the subnetworks. The transferring traffic flows among subnetworks are indirectly controlled by the demand-balance MPC controller, and a global optimality can be achieved for the entire traffic network. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller in improving the network traffic throughput.

Data dissemination is a promising application for the vehicular network. Existing data dissemination schemes are generally built upon some random-access protocol, which results in the unavoidable collision problem. To address this problem, in this paper we design a novel data dissemination strategy from the scheduling perspective. A data dissemination scheduling framework is then proposed. In the proposed framework, the main challenge is how best to assign the transmission opportunity to nodes with maximum dissemination utility and to avoid the collision problem. We then propose a novel and practical relay selection strategy and adopt the space-time network coding (STNC) with low detection complexity and space-time diversity gain to improve the dissemination efficiency. Compared with the random-access dissemination such as CodeOn-Basic and the noncooperative transmission, our proposed data dissemination strategy performs better in terms of the dissemination delay. In addition, the proposed strategy works even better in the dense network than the sparse scenario, benefitting from the space-time diversity gain of STNC and no-collision transmissions. This is in sharp contrary to the CodeOn-Basic method.

Face perception is one of the most important tasks in robot vision especially for service robots. The spatially enhanced local binary pattern histogram (eLBPH) method has been proved to be effective for facial image representation and analysis, but the expression factor isn't considered and the region-dividing method is rough. In this paper, inspired by the biological mechanism of human memory and face perception, we improve the eLBPH and propose a new method, expressionspecific weighted local binary pattern histogram (EWLBPH). Accordingly, the new method introduces a semantic division process and an extended modulation process into the classical eLBPH. What's more, for the facial expression recognition, we propose a novel method which utilizes the convolutional deep belief network (CDBN) to extract discriminative information and represent them effectively. Finally, through experiments we verify the rationality and effectiveness of the improvement and two psychophysical findings.

Performance evaluation is considered as an important part of the unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) development;it helps to discover research problems and improves driving safety. In this paper, a task-specific performance evaluation model of UGVs applied in the Intelligent Vehicle Future Challenge (IVFC) annual competitions is discussed. It is defined in functional levels with a formal evaluation process, including metrics analysis, metrics preprocessing, weights calculation, and a technique for order of preference by similarity to ideal solution and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation methods. IVFC 2012 is selected as a case study and overall performances of five UGVs are evaluated with specific analyzed autonomous driving tasks of environment perception, structural on-road driving, unstructured zone driving, and dynamic path planning. The model is proved to be helpful in IVFC serial competition UGVs performance evaluation.

In this paper, based on an equivalent mixed linear complementarity problem, we propose a neural network to solve multiuser power control optimization problems (MPCOP), which is modeled as the noncooperative Nash game in modern digital subscriber line (DSL). If the channel crosstalk coefficients matrix is positive semidefinite, it is shown that the proposed neural network is stable in the sense of Lyapunov and global convergence to a Nash equilibrium, and the Nash equilibrium is unique if the channel crosstalk coefficients matrix is positive definite. Finally, simulation results on two numerical examples show the effectiveness and performance of the proposed neural network. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Revealing underlying causal structure in social media is critical to understanding how users interact, on which a lot of security intelligence applications can be built. Existing causal inference methods for social media usually rely on limited explicit causal context, pre-assume certain user interaction model, or neglect the nonlinear nature of social interaction, which could lead to bias estimations of causality. Inspired from recent advance in causality detection in complex ecosystems, we propose to take advantage of a novel nonlinear state space reconstruction based approach, namely Convergent Cross Mapping, to perform causal inference in social media. Experimental results on real world social media datasets show the effectiveness of the proposed method in causal inference and user behavior prediction in social media.
