In this paper, a novel learning optimal control scheme is established to design the robust controller of a class of uncertain nonlinear systems. The robust control problem is transformed into the optimal control problem by properly choosing a cost function that reflects the uncertainty, regulation, and control. Then, the online policy iteration algorithm is presented to solve the Hamilton-Jacobi-Bellman (HJB) equation by introducing a critic neural network. The approximate expression of the optimal control policy can be derived directly. Moreover, the closed-loop system is proved to be uniformly ultimately bounded. The equivalence of the neural-network-based HJB solution of the optimal control problem and the solution of the robust control problem is developed as well. Finally, an example is provided to verify the effectiveness of the constructed approach.

Information technology has significant potential to enhance the engineering quality of the risk management of railway construction projects. The Shanghai Railway Bureau has promoted a risk management method based on the “A Figure and Four Tables” method (AFFTM) to assess the engineering quality; however, this method still suffers from several problems in railway construction project management. In this paper, we have combined the concepts and processes of the AFFTM with those of information technology and presented the implementation scheme of a new risk management system—the railway construction project quality risk management information system (RCPQRMIS)—that can be used to design and develop workable information tools for quality risk management. The paper analyzes the data standards of RCPQRMIS and creates a model for dynamically tracking the quality risk (“quality risk dynamic tracking” model) for providing pre-warning information on quality risk (“quality risk pre-warning” model) and for automatically generating publicity parameters for quality risk (“automatically generated quality risk publicity figure” model). The proposed system enables the visualization of the quality associated with the risk control, dynamic tracking, automatic pre-warning, and closed-loop management of railway construction projects. In addition, this paper presents the functional modules of the RCPQRMIS and its practical applications. Our application results show that the system successfully realized unified management of risk source information and multi-level sharing. In this manner, by using our system, we were able to significantly improve real-time tracking and pre-warning of the risk state, automatic generation of quality risk publicity figures, efficiency, and risk management levels.

With the development of urbanization, vehicle violations bring lots of problems for urban traffic. In this paper, we implement an electronic police system based on multiple salient vehicle parts for traffic surveillance. Vehicle is represented by its salient parts and its trajectory is obtained by tracking based on Kalman filter. First of all, multiple salient vehicle parts including the license plate and rear-lamps are localized using their distinctive features. Then vehicle tracking is performed using these parts with a Kalman filter to get vehicle motion trajectories. At last, traffic violations are detected by analyzing the vehicle trajectories and configuring various detection regions. Experiments show that our system is effective and it can achieve real-time performance for real traffic applications.

This paper solves distributed consensus tracking problems where the task is to make the multi-agent network, with each agent described by a general linear dynamics, to reach consensus with a leader whose control input is nonzero and not available to any followers. A set of sliding mode surfaces are defined and then fast sliding mode controllers are designed for both reduced order and non-reduced order cases. It is shown that all the trajectories exponentially converge to the sliding mode surfaces in a finite time if the leader has a directed path to at least one of the followers in a strongly connected and detailed balanced directed interaction graph and the leader’s control input is bounded. The control Lyapunov function for exponential finite time stability, motivated by the fast terminal sliding mode control, is used to prove the reachability of the sliding mode surfaces. Simulation examples are given to illustrate the theoretical results.

In winter oilseed rape (WOSR), only a subset of ovules can develop into seeds in the majority of pods. Any difficulty during the process of seed production may result in seed or pod abortion. This study aimed to reproduce the process of seed development in WOSR based on a limited number of parameters. As a result of the complexity of the developmental patterns of WOSR, it is challenging to identify the roles of various factors that influence seed production using an experimental approach. Here, we present a stochastic probabilistic model of seed development. The generalised least squares method was implemented to estimate the model parameters using the experimental data. Experiments were done in Grignon (France) in 2008 and 2009. The variations in the parameters were analysed according to the following four factors: year, pod rank, inflorescence position and ramification-clipping treatment. The year had no effect on the number of ovules per ovary () and the probability of seed viability (p). The proportion of effective pollen grains (k) significantly decreased with pod rank at the end of the main stem. Inflorescence position influenced the number of ovules per ovary (: 30.8-33.8 from top to bottom) and the parameter k. The mean number of seeds per pod on the main stem and the bottom ramification along the stem was larger than the other ramifications within one plant. Ramification-clipping treatment increased the number of ovules per ovary (: 31 for control plants and 32 for clipped plants), the parameter k and the number of seeds per pod (p). This effect could be due to the competition for assimilates between the pods and seeds. Furthermore, the distribution parameters of the pollen number per stigma (m) remained stable, and the probability of pod survival (Bo) varied with different factors, including the year, pod rank and inflorescence position. Exploiting both appearance similarity and geometric consistency is popular in addressing the feature correspondence problem. However, when there exist outliers the performance generally deteriorates greatly. In this paper, we propose a novel partial correspondence method to tackle the problem with outliers. Specifically, a novel pairwise term together with a neighborhood system is proposed, which, together with the other two pairwise terms and a unary term, formulates the correspondence to be solved as a subgraph matching problem. The problem is then approximated by the recently proposed Graduated Non-Convexity and Graduated Concavity Procedure (GNCGCP). The proposed algorithm obtains a state-of-the-art accuracy in the existence of outliers while keeping O(N-3) computational complexity and O(N-2) storage complexity. In this paper, multistability is discussed for delayed recurrent neural networks with ring structure and multi-step piecewise linear activation functions. Sufficient criteria are obtained to check the existence of multiple equilibria. A lemma is proposed to explore the number and the cross-direction of purely imaginary roots for the characteristic equation, which corresponds to the neural network model. Stability of all of equilibria is investigated. The work improves and extends the existing stability results in the literature. Finally, two examples are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the obtained results.
