We demonstrate an 852-nm external cavity diode laser(ECDL) system whose wavelength is mainly determined by an interference filter instead of other wavelength selective elements. The Lorentzian linewidth measured by the heterodyne beating between two identical lasers is 28.3 k Hz. Moreover, we test the application of the ECDL in the Faraday atomic *** saturated absorption spectrum, the transmission spectrum of the Faraday atomic filter at 852 nm is measured by using the ECDL. This interference filter ECDL method can also be extended to other wavelengths and widen the application range of diode laser.

The performance of multiuser multiple input multiple output orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (MIMO-OFDM) systems can be significantly improved by using efficient resource allocation schemes. There are a lot of resource allocation schemes to maximize the system capacity. However, under a practical circumstance of employing a suboptimal MIMO detector, optimizing for maximum capacity may not be proper. In this paper, we investigate resource allocation schemes to minimize the bit error rate (BER) for various suboptimal detectors, including the zero forcing (ZF) detector, the successive interference cancellation (SIC) detector, the lattice reduction (LR) based ZF detector, and the LR based SIC detector. For the ZF and SIC detectors, we study the subcarrier allocation among users and power allocation over subcarriers and antennas. The optimal algorithm is investigated and a suboptimal scheme with low complexity is proposed for each detector. For the LR based ZF and SIC detectors, we propose suboptimal schemes with allocating power equally over antennas. Simulation results confirm that the proposed scheme improves the BER performance for each detector.

Network troubleshooting is always a tough and daunting task for network operators to struggle with, due to difficultly observed network state, large network size and limited tools such as ping and traceroute. Software-defined networking (SDN) brings us the centralized network control and the customized network management over the entire network, which enables new ways of network troubleshooting. Previous efforts focus on static checking, passive monitoring and active probing, which rely on scraping rules from either controller or network devices. Since those rules describe the actions supposed to be performed on packets, the actions having been performed on packets can be different. We propose the concept of packet behavior to describe the real changes of packets and highlight its importance towards network troubleshooting. Based on the novel approach of exporting packet behavior and flow rules via copies triggered by probes being actively sent, we present the design of Netography system and illustrate the procedures of troubleshooting tasks regarding forwarding errors as well as performance degradation caused by non-tenant-contention reasons. We implement a prototype and verify our system on a small deployment with three typical use cases.

Hybrid digital/analog precoding has been widely utilized in millimeter-wave (mmWave) multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems. Compared to the digital precoder, it is more challenging to design the analog precoder because of the constant amplitude (CA) constraints on the entries. Although high-resolution analog phase shifters (APSs) can provide more choices in phase adjustment, it also adds the difficulty in designing effective codebooks for beam selection. In addition, the finer APSs are accompanied by the higher hardware cost and power consumption. Driven by the low hardware cost and power consumption, we employ one-bit APSs to perform analog precoding. A simple codebook for hierarchical searching is designed. Then a low-complexity hierarchical beam selection algorithm is devised to reduce the training overhead. An approximate expression of spectral efficiency after hybrid precoding in one-bit-APS system is also derived, which is close to the simulation results in medium signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Despite a performance degradation, both the theoretical analysis and the simulation results show that the performance is still comparable to the existing alternatives with much lower training overhead and hardware cost. Therefore, the proposed one-bit-APS system can be an acceptable tradeoff in practical implementation.

Multi-dimensional carrierless amplitude phase (CAP) modulation attracts a lot interest in recent opticalcommunications as an advanced modulation format with improved performance. In this study, we have demonstrated a multiband multi-dimensional CAP modulation scheme and investigated its applications in short reach opticalcommunicationsystems. Similar to discrete multitone (DMT) technique, several independent bands can be loaded with different three dimensional carrierless amplitude phase (3D-CAP) signals in the proposed multiband 3-dimensional CAP system, offering improved tolerance to non-flat channels. Experimental transmission of 3D-CAP over SMF up to 45Gbps is also demonstrated.
