We propose a detailed frequency-domain model of the all-optical turbo-switch incorporating two cascaded semiconductor optical amplifiers (SOAs) with a broad band-pass optical filter in between the SOAs. The frequency-domain SOA model has taken the spatial inhomogeneity of the saturated SOA gain associated with the pump optical field into consideration for the first time. The simulations based on the model have been presented to understand the reason of the bandwidth enhancement and to predict the 3-dB bandwidth of frequency response of the turbo-switch. With the optimization of the optical powers, waveguide loss and a delayed-interferometer, the 3-dB bandwidth of turbo-switch can reach up to 270 GHz.

We have experimentally demonstrated symmetric 40Gb/s TWDM-PON with long passive reach and high power budget. Directly-modulated lasers (DMLs) are used as both downstream and upstream lasers to reduce the system cost, and optical reshaping filter is used to manage the chirp of the DMLs for all the upstream and downstream channels, enabling long distance transmission without dispersion compensation. The power budget is as high as 43 dB for 100-km passive reach, supporting 64 users.

We propose a pipeline structure for Schnorr-Euchner sphere decoding algorithm in this article. It divides the search tree of the original algorithm into blocks and executes the search from block to block. When one block search of a signal is over, the part in the pipeline structure that processes this block search can load another signal and search. Several signals can be processed at the same time in one pipeline. Blocks are arranged to lower the whole complexity in the way that the previously search blocks are the blocks those have more probability to generate the final solution. Simulation experiment results show the average process delay can drop to the range from 48.77% to 60.18% in a 4-by-4 antenna system with 16QAM modulation, or from 30.31% to 61.59% in a 4-by-4 antenna system with 64QAM modulation.

In this paper, martingale theory is introduced to analyze the phase noise effect for the first time as far as we know. Through Fubini’s Theory and martingale representation theory, we proved that , which denotes the phase noise effect, is a predictable martingale. Then Ito’s formula for solution to stochastic differential equation is utilized for the analysis of phase noise effect. Using our method, a nonrecursive formula for the moments of phase noise is derived and signal-noise-ratio (SNR) degradation in coherent optical OFDM due to phase noise is calculated with our method.

We derive an exact formula of geometric measure of quantum discord (GMQD) for an arbitrary 3-qubit state. The dynamics of GMQD in a quantum spin system coupled to a thermal bath is studied by simulation and analytical approximation. It is found that tripartite quantum discord has distinct time behaviors within two different eigenspaces. Further, we extend the square norm distance to define tripartite geometric quantifiers of total and classical correlations. We obtain their explicit expressions and discuss the possibility of having a closed additive relation among various kinds of correlations during the dynamical evolution.

In OFDM-based mobile networks, uplink synchronization is essential in order for an eNB (evolved Node Base station) to handle a variety of interference issues. To guarantee uplink synchronization control, the HARQ (Hybrid Automatic Repeat-reQuest) mechanism is applied into the process of its TAC (Timing Advance Command) transmission in current standards. But HARQ conflicts with the TAC scheduling mechanism in nature, because TAC control information is typically scheduled for transmission at the end of a synchronization period in order to save signaling overhead by reducing TAT (Time Alignment Timer) restart frequency. To handle the conflict between the extra HARQ retransmission delay and TAC scheduling mechanism, we propose a novel TO (Time Offset)-TAC solution that can remove the side effects from TAC information delivery caused by the extra delay of HARQ retransmission. We conduct system-level simulation experiments to evaluate our proposal's performance gain. Results demonstrate that our solution can avoid losing synchronization due to its TAT expiration, at a slight penalty of signaling overhead. This study is the first effort at addressing how to guarantee uplink time alignment in the control layer, which is the basis for suppressing interference from “time-staggered symbols” among multiple paths.
