We study nonlinear dynamics of classical electromagnetic wave propagation in a one-dimensional nonlinear periodic photonic structure. It is found that the period of Rabi oscillations can be modulated by the relatively weak nonlinearity (2V0/γ>1). When nonlinearity is relatively strong compared to the strength of resonant coupling (2V0/γ<1), Rabi oscillations is suppressed and the system shows a dynamical behavior, i.e., energy localizes in one mode rather than full oscillation between two degenerated modes. Phase plane analysis is applied to explain these dynamical phenomena.

This paper presents a model for the joint design of flow control and processor allocation for task scheduling in grid over optical burst switching (GOBS) networks. The GOBS resource allocation is formulated as a utility maximization problem with constraints that arise from the resource and user preferences. The optimization problem is decomposed into two parts: flow control for burst length adjustment and processor allocation for computational capacity adjustment. The parameters from the resource layer are abstracted and provided to a cross-layer optimizer to maximize user's utility function. The performance of the algorithm is evaluated through simulations.

China has begun to consider the plan of establishing its public satellite mobile network (PSMN) due to the national demands. As the result of one earlier research sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology of China, a network architecture of the satellite mobile service system, which is compatible to 3GPP/UMTS R4 and bases on appropriate GEO satellite on-board processor modeling, is proposed in this paper, with several new defined functional entities, interfaces, and protocols.
