We demonstrate a compact 29.3 GHz visible astro-comb covering the spectrum from 560nm to 700nm. A 837 MHz Yb:fiber laser frequency comb phase locked to a Rb clock served as the seed comb to ensure the frequency stability and high side mode suppression ratio. After the visible super-continuum generation, a cavity-length-fixed Fabry-Perot cavity made by ultra-low expansion glass was utilized to filter the comb teeth for eliminating the rapid active dithering. The mirrors were home-made complementary chirped mirrors pair with zero dispersion and high reflection to guarantee no mode skipping. These filtered comb teeth were clearly resolved in an astronomical spectrograph of 49,000 resolution, exhibiting sharp linetype, zero noise floor, and uniform exposure amplitude. Long-distance continuous-variable quantum key distribution using separable Gaussian states

Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CVQKD) is considered to be an alternative to classical cryptography for secure communication. However, its transmission distance is restricted to metropolitan areas, given that it is affected by the channel excess noise and losses. In this paper, we present a scheme for implementing long-distance CVQKD using separable Gaussian states. This tunable QKD protocol requires separable Gaussian states, which are squeezed and displaced, along with the assistance of classical communication and available linear optics components. This protocol originates from the entanglement of one mode and the auxiliary mode used for distribution, which is first destroyed by local correlated noises and restored subsequently by the interference of the auxiliary mode with the second distant separable correlated mode. The displacement matrix is organized by two six-dimensional vectors and is finally fixed by the separability of the tripartite system. The separability between the ancilla and Alice and Bob’s system mitigates the enemy’s eavesdropping, leading to tolerating higher excess noise and achieving longer transmission distance. Wavelength dimensioning for wavelength-routed WDM satellite network

Internet and broadband applications driven by data traffic demand have become key dri- vers for satellite constellations. The key technology to satisfy the high capacity requirements between satellites is optical satellite networks by means of wavelength division multiplexing inter- satellite links （ISLs） with wavelength routing （WDM-OSN）. Due to the limited optical amplifier bandwidth onboard the satellite, it is important to minimize the wavelength requirements to provi- sion requests. However, ISLs should be dynamically established and deleted for each satellite according to its visible satellites. Furthermore, different link assignments will result in different topologies, hence yielding different routings and wavelength assignments. Thus, a perfect match model-based link assignment scheme （LAS-PMM） is proposed to design an appropriate topology such that shorter path could be routed and less wavelengths could be assigned for each ISL along the path. Finally, simulation results show that in comparison to the regular Manhattan street net- work （MSN） topology, wavelength requirements and average end-to-end delay based on the topol- ogy generated by LAS-PMM could be reduced by 24.8% and 12.4%, respectively.

Distribution of millimeter waves over a fiber link with high frequency stability(Invited Paper)

We present a theoretical analysis, systematic simulation, and experimental measurements for the phase noise,timing jitter, and frequency stability in the frequency distribution of millimeter waves over distant optical fiber links. The conception that the dissemination of a higher frequency reference instead of a lower one can achieve a better frequency stability is discussed and verified. We find that the system＇s noise floor, including thermal noise,shot noise, and any other noise from electronic components, is considered to be a fundamental limitation for a frequency reference transmission system. Benefiting from the high-precision time delay variation discrimination and accurate locking control operation, a highly stabilized reference is distributed to a remote end over a 60 km spooled fiber, achieving a frequency stability of 4 × 10^（-17） at an average time 1000 s, corresponding to 23 fs of RMS timing jitter（0.01 Hz^（–1） MHz）.

Real-Time Fine-Grained Air Quality Sensing networks in Smart City: Design, Implementation and Optimization

—Driven by the increasingly serious air pollution problem, the monitoring of air quality has gained much attention in both theoretical studies and practical implementations. In this paper, we present the architecture, implementation and optimization of our own air quality sensing system, which provides real-time and fine-grained air quality map of the monitored area. As the major component, the optimization problem of our system is studied in detail. Our objective is to minimize the average joint error of the established real-time air quality map, which involves data inference for the unmeasured data values. A deep Q-learning solution has been proposed for the power control problem to reasonably plan the sensing tasks of the power-limited sensing devices online. A genetic algorithm has been designed for the location selection problem to efficiently find the suitable locations to deploy limited number of sensing devices. The performance of the proposed solutions are evaluated by simulations, showing a significant performance gain when adopting both strategies. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Flexible energy management protocol for cooperative EV-to-EV charging

In this paper, we investigate flexible power transfer among electric vehicles (EVs) from a cooperative perspective in an EV system. First, the concept of cooperative EV-to- EV (V2V) charging is introduced, which enables active cooperation via charging/discharging operations between EVs as energy consumers and EVs as energy providers. Then, based on the cooperative V2V charging concept, a flexible energy management protocol with different V2V matching algorithms is proposed, which can help the EVs achieve more flexible and smarter charging/discharging behaviors. In the proposed energy management protocol, we define the utilities of the EVs based on the cost and profit through cooperative V2V charging and employ the bipartite graph to model the charging/discharging cooperation between EVs as energy consumers and EVs as energy providers. Based on the constructed bipartite graph, a max-weight V2V matching algorithm is proposed in order to optimize the network social welfare. Moreover, taking individual rationality into consideration, we further introduce the stable matching concepts and propose two stable V2V matching algorithms, which can yield the EV-consumer-optimal and EVprovider- optimal stable V2V matchings, respectively. Simulation results verify the efficiency of our proposed cooperative V2V charging based energy management protocol in improving the EV utilities and the network social welfare as well as reducing the energy consumption of the EVs. We report on a compact passive mode-locked Er:fiber ring laser operated at the fundamental repetition rate of 517 MHz, which we believe is the highest fundamental repetition rate ever reported in a ring cavity fiber *** key technique is the employment of two innovative high-power wavelength domain multiplexer collimators with all gain fiber cavity suited for the high power(up to 2 W) pumping. The laser is featured with a direct chirpfree output pulse, which is 97 fs without extracavity compression at an average output power of 90 mW.

Integrating machine learning to achieve an automatic parameter prediction for practical continuous-variable quantum key distribution

For supporting practical quantum key distribution (QKD), it is critical to stabilize the physical parameters of signals, e.g., the intensity, phase, and polarization of the laser signals, so that such QKD systems can achieve better performance and practical security. In this paper, an approach is developed by integrating a support vector regression (SVR) model to optimize the performance and practical security of the QKD system. First, a SVR model is learned to precisely predict the time-along evolutions of the physical parameters of signals. Second, such predicted time-along evolutions are employed as feedback to control the QKD system for achieving the optimal performance and practical security. Finally, our proposed approach is exemplified by using the intensity evolution of laser light and a local oscillator pulse in the Gaussian modulated coherent state QKD system. Our experimental results have demonstrated three significant benefits of our SVR-based approach: (1) it can allow the QKD system to achieve optimal performance and practical security, (2) it does not require any additional resources and any real-time monitoring module to support automatic prediction of the time-along evolutions of the physical parameters of signals, and (3) it is applicable to any measurable physical parameter of signals in the practical QKD system.
