How to rationally allocate the limited advertising budget is a critical issue in sponsored search auctions. There are plenty of uncertainties in the mapping from the budget into the advertising performance. This paper presented some preliminary efforts to deal with uncertainties in search marketing environments, following principles of a hierarchical budget optimization framework (BOF). We proposed a stochastic, risk-constrained budget strategy, by considering a random factor of clicks per unit cost to capture a kind of uncertainty at the campaign level. Uncertainties of random factors at the campaign level lead to risk at the market/system level. We also proved its theoretical soundness through analyzing some desirable properties. Some computational experiments were made to evaluate our proposed budget strategy with real-word data collected from reports and logs of search advertising campaigns. Experimental results illustrated that our strategy outperforms two baseline strategies. We also noticed that 1) the risk tolerance has great influences on the determination of optimal budget solutions;2) the higher risk tolerance leads to more expected revenues.

Morale dominates soldiers' behaviors and combat effectiveness. Recruits' group morale always gets stuck in a low level due to the gap between the real army and their imaginary one. It's important to find a solution to increase the morale effectively in the first few days and keep it steady in the following days. In this paper, first four core behavioral attributes that affect the morale, in the view of organizational behavior, are refined, then the recruit agent model based on agent-based modeling (ABM) is built, next rules for four modules, which are oral praise module, motion module, interaction module and morale recession module, are set on the recruits, and finally four simulation experiments are conducted. With the collaboration of the four modules, recruits' group morale grows significantly in the first ninety days and keeps steady in the later days. Some abnormal agents' individual morale changes are also studied.

This paper focuses on the modelling and control problems of a self-propelled, multimodal amphibious robot. Inspired by the undulatory body motions of fish and dolphins, the amphibious robot propels itself underwater by oscillations of several modular fish-like propelling units coupled with a pair of pectoral fins capable of non-continuous 360 degree rotation. In order to mimic fish-like undulating propulsion, a control architecture based on Central Pattern Generator (CPG) is applied to the amphibious robot for robust swimming gaits, including forward and backward swimming and turning, etc. With the simplification of the robot as a multi-link serial mechanism, a Lagrangian function is employed to establish the hydrodynamic model for steady swimming. The CPG motion control law is then imported into the Lagrangian-based dynamic model, where an associated system of kinematics and dynamics is formed to solve real-time movements and, further, to guide the exploration of the CPG parameters and steady locomotion gaits. Finally, comparative results between the simulations and experiments are provided to show the effectiveness of the built control models.

In order to increase learning efficiency, a new multi-robot reinforcement learning strategy is proposed by employing classification of historical states and information sharing mechanism. In this paper, we for the first time consider the space-time network coding (STNC) to propose a novel cooperative data dissemination strategy in the time-division multiple access (TDMA) manner for the vehicle network, to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional network coding (NC) techniques with carrier sense multiple access/collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) protocol, i.e., high signal detection complexity and channel collision problem. An optimal relay selection strategy in the procedure of cooperative data dissemination is proposed to maximize the average system capacity for the data dissemination. In a addition, a suboptimal relay selection strategy is put forward to reduce the computation complexity and thus makes the developed data dissemination strategy more practical. Compared with the noncooperative data dissemination, the proposed cooperative data dissemination via STNC has better performance in terms of the average system capacity, the average user equipment (UE) capacity, and the average data dissemination delay.

In this paper, we propose a unified TDMA-based scheduling protocol for Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communications. In the proposed TDMA-based scheduling protocol, the roadside infrastructure collects the information from the vehicles within its communication coverage through a control channel at the beginning of each transmission frame and then decides how to allocate the time slots to the vehicles for their data transmission requests based on a new designed weight-factor-based scheduler. The provided weight factor jointly takes into consideration the channel quality of communication links, the speed based fairness among vehicles, and different access categories. Simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed scheduling protocol in terms of the network throughput performance, the fairness among the vehicles, and different accessing priorities of different access categories.

Since abnormal control chart patterns (CCPs) are indicators of production processes being out-of-control, it is a critical task to recognize these patterns effectively based on process measurements. Most methods on CCP recognition assume that the process data only suffers from single type of unnatural pattern. In reality, the observed process data could be the combination of several basic patterns, which leads to severe performance degradations in these methods. To address this problem, some independent component analysis (ICA) based schemes have been proposed. However, some limitations are observed in these algorithms, such as lacking of the capability of monitoring univariate processes with only one key measurement, misclassifications caused by the inherent permutation and scaling ambiguities, and inconsistent solution. This paper proposes a novel hybrid approach based on singular spectrum analysis (SSA) and support vector machine (SVM) to identify concurrent CCPs. In the proposed method, the observed data is first separated by SSA into multiple basic components, and then these separated components are classified by SVM for pattern recognition. The scheme is suitable for univariate concurrent CCPs identification, and the results are stable since it does not have shortcomings found in the ICA-based schemes. Furthermore, it has good generalization performance of dealing with the small samples. Superior performance of the proposed algorithm is achieved in simulations. (C) 2012 Elsevier Ltd.
