This paper concentrates on determining the hitting point where the racket attached to the ping-pong playing robot will intercept the incoming ball. The nearest neighbor method is used to estimate the racket velocity at the hitting point;then the racket acceleration during the hitting process is analyzed. A parallel fuzzy learning system consisting of two fuzzy subsystems is used to compute the success rate for the racket acceleration. Both these subsystems will be updated online based on the feedback. A performance function of the acceleration and the success rate is formulated to evaluate the candidate hitting points obtained by trajectory prediction;then the optimal hitting point is chosen. In comparison with the virtual hitting plane method, the proposed method shows better performance.

Quantitative simulation has a significant influence on the research of management theories. Through a valid simulation, the motivation effect of the management theories can be seen directly from the simulation results. Then which theory is needed for a specific corporation and what we can do to develop the theory can be revealed. This research realizes the quantitative simulation of McGregor's XY Theory and Theory Z by agent model, quantified appraising performance and qualitative analysis. Based on the quantitative simulation result, a new qualitative simulation is realized which can help us to analyze the effect of the three theories. At last, we make a conclusion that Theory X and Y are only suited to motivate workers with a special attitude or character, while Theory Z has more power on different attitude workers. Therefore, Theory Z is more advanced than Theory XY.

A novel distributed hunting approach for multiple autonomous robots in unstructured mode-free environments, which is based on effective sectors and local sensing, is proposed in this paper. The visual information, encoder and sonar data are integrated in the robot's local frame, and the effective sector is introduced. The hunting task is modelled as three states: search state, round-obstacle state, and hunting state, and the corresponding switching conditions and control strategies are given. A form of cooperation will emerge where the robots interact only locally with each other. The evader, whose motion is a priori unknown to the robots, adopts an escape strategy to avoid being captured. The approach is scalable and may cope with problems of communication and wheel slippage. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is verified through experiments with a team of wheeled robots.

Micro-blogging is becoming an increasingly popular social media platform where users can discover interesting information about the real world and especially corporations are able to understand customers' demands. The fast diffusion of information and the convenience of micro-blogging have resulted in large audiences sharing their daily activities, exchanging opinions and establishing friendships with others. By analyzing the user-generated contents, one can explore users' potential interests, which helps micro-blogging provide users with better personalized information services. Users' behaviors are affected by opinions of their friends and changes in their interests over time. Based on these intuitions, in this paper we propose a temporal and social probabilistic matrix factorization model to predict users' potential interests in micro-blogging. By exploiting the matrix factorization technique to learn latent features of users and topics, our model analyzes the impacts of time information and users' activities, including posting of tweets and establishing friendships with others, on the latent feature space of users and topics of their interests. The proposed model provides a unified way to fuse the time information and the social network structure to predict users' future interests accurately. The experimental results on Sina-weibo, one of the most popular micro-blogging sites in China, demonstrate the efficiency and effectiveness of our proposed model. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. Full duplex transmission is a promising technique to enhance the capacity of relay communications. In this paper, we investigate the optimum transmit power allocation for full duplex decode-and-forward (DF) relaying systems. The outage probability is adopted as the optimization criterion and a transmit power optimization problem is formulated for systems with and without total power constraint. Analytical and numerical results are provided to show the advantages of the power optimization. More interestingly, the effect of residual self-interference introduced by full duplex transmission is examined in terms of optimal power allocation and outage probability performance improvement.

There has been greatly increased interest in using embedded vision for aquatic environments. This paper presents a robust target tracking method for a free-swimming biomimetic robotic fish by means of embedded vision and central pattern generator (CPG)-based motion control. Specifically, an algorithm called automatic continuous adaptive mean shift (Auto-CAMSHIFT) is firstly proposed to obtain the position and size of the interested target. Then a fuzzy logic controller is developed to generate the control input closely related to the desired target. A CPG controller that is robust against small and unexpected disturbance, at the same time, is employed to produce coordinated signals for multiple moving joints of the robotic fish. Finally, aquatic testing results verify the effectiveness of the proposed methods and show a satisfactory performance.

Among the most important and distinctive actionable knowledge are actionable behavioral rules that can directly and explicitly suggest specific actions to take to influence the behavior in the users' best interest. However, in mining such rules, it often occurs that different rules may suggest the same actions with different expected utilities, which we call conflicting rules. To resolve the conflicts, a previous pruning method was proposed. However, inconsistency of the measure for rule pruning may hinder its performance. To overcome this problem, we develop a new pruning method to achieve rule pruning in actionable rule discovery. We conduct several experiments to test our proposed approach and evaluate the sensitivity of the weight parameter. Empirical results based on a benchmark terrorism dataset indicate that our approach outperforms those from previous research.
