Simulation of plant structure competing for light source has mostly been done by directly modifying plant structure according to light interception. Functional-structural plant models, however, emphasize the influence of light interception on biomass production, and consequently plant structure. In this paper, we integrate a light distribution model with Greenlab model, which used Beer-Law in computing biomass production. By replacing Beer-Law with a light interception model for biomass production, the combined model was able to simulate the effect of light condition on plant structure through source-sink regulation. The positive and negative sides of this approach are discussed.

Important users are high-status vertices in social networks. They are everywhere in most fields of society and have big impact on those around them. Although a lot of effort has been made on identifying important users, the efficient methods still need to be developed, especially for the web users from Sina microblog, which is the most popular social networking sites in China and has unique characteristics. In this paper, a machine learning-based method which only uses several attributes on Naive Bayes Classifiers (NBC) and Back Propagation Neural Network (BPNN) was proposed to identify important users. Initial experiments indicate that our method is effective. The result of "high" category has more than 55% accuracy rate. We find the NBC can identify more important users while BPNN has higher accuracy rate. What's more, the numbers of follower and followings in Sina microblog is independent.

Nowadays, most industrial robots have been designed to be mechanically stiff with rigid link. When a robot with heavy payload is running in fast motions, the residual vibrations of the end-effector are primary caused by joint flexibility. Therefore, the flexibility of joint cannot be neglected. This paper presents a systematic approach to dynamic modeling and residual vibration mode analysis for an industrial robot with rigid links and flexible joints (RLFJ). First, the flexibility of the joint is modeled as a torsional spring and the dynamic equations for this robot are derived by using Lagrange's method. Then, to examine residual vibration properties of the system, numerical simulation is carried out. The following important conclusions are drawn from simulation results: (1) the proposed dynamic model can represent joint flexibility of industrial robot and the joint flexibility causes the residual vibration of the end-effector;(2) for a given RLFJ model, the residual vibration is mainly affected by the payload mass, path of the task and joint stiffness.

Research data sharing becomes increasingly difficult in the context of social media. Increasing restrictions from social media sites are creating an environment where data cannot be freely shared and as a result scientific claims cannot be verified. In this work, we present a novel approach to data sharing that does not require explicitly publishing a dataset. We create a framework where researchers systematically share the parameters they used to crawl the dataset along with the code used to collect the data, allowing the reader to re-assemble the dataset at a later time. While this approach is by no means a silver bullet, we seek to start a conversation for researchers to implement approaches to data sharing that can be embraced by the research community. Many applications can benefit from constructing models to predict the behavior of an entity. However, such models do not provide the user with explicit knowledge that can be directly used to influence (restrain or encourage) behavior for the user's interest. Undoubtedly, the user often exactly needs such knowledge. This type of knowledge is called actionable knowledge. Actionability is a very important criterion measuring the interestingness of mined patterns. In this paper, to mine such knowledge, we take a first step toward formally defining a new class of data mining problem, named actionable behavioral rule mining. Our definition explicitly states the problem as a search problem in a framework of support and expected utility. We also propose two algorithms for mining such rules. Our experiment shows the validity of our approach, as well as the practical value of our defined problem. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

This paper analyses the cause of the major faults of the SF6 high voltage circuit breaker, and then introduces a solution using an embedded control system. The control system consists of the controller for every breaker and a supervisor control system in the control center. Then a double-annular fiber field-bus communication network for the control system is introduced, of which the data link layer is implemented by the CAN controller. According to the operation state of every node and the fiber, the fiber communication module of every node can be configured to several different transmission modes. Due to the influence of temperature, the empirical formula of Beattie-Bridgman is used to calculate the pressure of SF6.
