This article summarizes the history and present state of the IEEE Council on Radio-Frequency Identification (CRFID). The aim, scope, and achievement of CRFID on technical & academic activities, publications, and membership services & education are highlighted, with focus on how CRFID commits and grows resources to achieve its goals for its technical communities. This article also provides the vision and path to the council's future, and on this path, CRFID is broadening the technological frontiers of IoT, Blockchain, Cyber-Physical systems (CPS), Cyber-Physical Social systems (CPSS), Digital Twins, Parallel systems, Parallel Intelligence, and many other related enabling and transformational techniques.

Hepatocellular carcinoma is a common and highly malignant disease. As a currently designated systemic chemotherapeutic agent for advanced Hepatocellular carcinoma, sorafenib has been confronted with dilemma of drug-resistance caused by tumor hypoxia, which hinders the therapeutic efficacy of the drug. Based on this, amultifunctional mesoporous polydopamine nanoprobe 2Me-SPIO-CY5.5@AAZ-MPDA with a mesoporous frame loaded 2-Methoxyestradiol, Superparamagnetic Iron Oxide Nanoparticles and the near-infrared dye cyanine 5.5, conjugated with hypoxia Hepatocellular carcinoma-specific targeting molecule of sulfonamides acetazolamide, is fabricated for hypoxic region targeting, sorafenib resistance reversion and photothermal therapy of Hepatocellular carcinoma. In addition, the magnetic resonance imaging/fluorescence/photoacoustic tri-modal imaging ability enables the tracing of the nanoprobes and monitoring the treatment procedure in vivo, providing a new methods of imaging-guided Hepatocellular carcinoma synergic treatment which improves the long-term therapeutic effects of sorafenib. S⁴TP: Social-Suitable and Safety-Sensitive Trajectory Planning for Autonomous Vehicles

In public roads, autonomous vehicles (AVs) face the challenge of frequent interactions with human-driven vehicles (HDVs), which render uncertain driving behavior due to varying social characteristics among humans. To effectively assess the risks prevailing in the vicinity of AVs in social interactive traffic scenarios and achieve safe autonomous driving, this article proposes a social-suitable and safety-sensitive trajectory planning ((STP)-T-4) framework. Specifically, (STP)-T-4 integrates the Social-Aware Trajectory Prediction (SATP) and Social-Aware Driving Risk Field (SADRF) modules. SATP utilizes Transformers to effectively encode the driving scene and incorporates an AV's planned trajectory during the prediction decoding process. SADRF assesses the expected surrounding risk degrees during AVs-HDVs interactions, each with different social characteristics, visualized as two-dimensional heat maps centered on the AV. SADRF models the driving intentions of the surrounding HDVs and predicts trajectories based on the representation of vehicular interactions. (STP)-T-4 employs an optimization-based approach for motion planning, utilizing the predicted HDVs' trajectories as input. With the integration of SADRF, (STP)-T-4 executes real-time online optimization of the planned trajectory of AV within low-risk regions, thus improving the safety and the interpretability of the planned trajectory. We have conducted comprehensive tests of the proposed method using the SMARTS simulator. Experimental results in complex social scenarios, such as unprotected left-turn intersections, merging, cruising, and overtaking, validate the superiority of our proposed (STP)-T-4 in terms of safety and rationality. (STP)-T-4 achieves a pass rate of 100% across all scenarios, surpassing the current state-of-the-art methods Fanta of 98.25% and Predictive-Decision of 94.75%.

With the development of industrialized building and intelligence technology, it becomes necessary and possible to realize building process intelligence management. In recent years, digital twins and parallel management get more and more attentions in academic research and industrial applications. This paper addresses how parallel building system performs intelligence management on industrialized building process. Firstly, actual building model and artificial building model are created according to actual building system. Then business driving engine and simulation engine drive actual building model and artificial building model, respectively. Participants receive and send messages by software interfaces. Business driving engine changes the status of actual building model and sends the changes to simulation engine. Simulation engine updates the status of artificial building model and runs artificial building model with various parameters. Then it sends the parameter with the best effect to business driving engine. Business driving engine sends recommendations to participants according to the best parameter. Thus, building process intelligence management is achieved.

African swine fever (ASF) is a highly contagious hemorrhagic viral disease of domestic and wild pigs. ASF has led to major economic losses and adverse impacts on livelihoods of stakeholders involved in the pork food system in many European and Asian countries. While the epidemiology of ASF virus (ASFV) is fairly well understood, there is neither any effective treatment nor vaccine. In this paper, we propose a novel method to model the spread of ASFV in China by integrating the data of pork import/export, transportation networks, and pork distribution centers. We first empirically analyze the overall spatiotemporal patterns of ASFV spread and conduct extensive experiments to evaluate the efficacy of a number of geographic distance measures. These empirical analyses of ASFV spread within China indicate that the first occurrence of ASFV has not been purely dependent on the geographical distance from existing infected regions. Instead, the pork supply-demand patterns have played an important role. Predictions based on a new distance measure achieve better performance in predicting ASFV spread among Chinese provinces and thus have the potential to enable the design of more effective control interventions.

Altered Spontaneous Brain Activity in Children with Early Tourette Syndrome: a Resting-state fMRI Study

Tourette syndrome (TS) is a childhood-onset chronic disorder characterized by the presence of multiple motor and vocal tics. This study investigated the alterations of spontaneous brain activities in children with TS by resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI). We obtained rs-fMRI scans from 21 drug-naive and pure TS children and 29 demographically matched healthy children. The amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation (ALFF), fractional ALFF (fALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) of rs-fMRI data were calculated to measure spontaneous brain activity. We found significant alterations of ALFF or fALFF in vision-related structures including the calcarine sulcus, the cuneus, the fusiform gyrus, and the left insula in TS children. Decreased ReHo was found in the right cerebellum. Further analysis showed that the ReHo value of the right cerebellum was positively correlated with TS duration. Our study provides empirical evidence for abnormal spontaneous neuronal activity in TS patients, which may implicate the neurophysiological mechanism in TS children. Moreover, the right cerebellum can be potentially used as a biomarker for the pathophysiology of early TS in children.

Structural brain alterations in primary open angle glaucoma: a 3T MRI study

Glaucoma is not only an eye disease but is also associated with degeneration of brain structures. We now investigated the pattern of visual and non-visual brain structural changes in 25 primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) patients and 25 age-gender-matched normal controls using T1-weighted imaging. MRI images were subjected to volume-based analysis (VBA) and surface-based analysis (SBA) in the whole brain as well as ROI-based analysis of the lateral geniculate nucleus (LGN), visual cortex (V1/2), amygdala and hippocampus. While VBA showed no significant differences in the gray matter volumes of patients, SBA revealed significantly reduced cortical thickness in the right frontal pole and ROI-based analysis volume shrinkage in LGN bilaterally, right V1 and left amygdala. Structural abnormalities were correlated with clinical parameters in a subset of the patients revealing that the left LGN volume was negatively correlated with bilateral cup-to-disk ratio (CDR), the right LGN volume was positively correlated with the mean deviation of the right visual hemifield, and the right V1 cortical thickness was negatively correlated with the right CDR in glaucoma. These results demonstrate that POAG affects both vision-related structures and non-visual cortical regions. Moreover, alterations of the brain visual structures reflect the clinical severity of glaucoma.

Crosstalk is a critical defect affecting quality in 3D displays. Existing methods require tedious computations or device-specific optical measurements and results are often sub-optimal for 3D productions. We propose a method based on light field acquisition and optimization for crosstalk reduction. Algorithms were developed and experimental results showed superior performance.
