Development of an atmospheric fluorocarbon plasma jet generated by pulse modulated microwave discharge

Atmospheric fluorocarbon plasma plays an important role in the surface modification of insulating materials like *** existing fluorocarbon plasma is usually generated by dielectric barrier discharge,which has a low concentration of reactive species and may cause insufficient surface *** work attempts to develop an atmospheric fluorocarbon plasma jet using a coaxial transmission line resonator by microwave discharge with locally enhanced electric field and high *** gas temperature is reduced by pulse modulation *** kinds of working gases,pure CF_(4),Ar/CF_(4)and He/CF_(4),are utilized to generate the atmospheric microwave fluorocarbon plasma *** discharge images,optical emission spectra,electron densities and gas temperatures are studied *** results show that the Ar/CF_(4)plasma jet has the best comprehensive performance,such as strong discharge intensity and controllable gas *** electron density of the Ar/CF_4plasma jet has a magnitude of 10~(20)m^(-3),indicating a higher density than that of the frequently used dielectric barrier *** the other conditions unchanged,the gas temperature at the end of the Ar/CF_(4)plasma jet can be reduced from 410.2 to 347.3 K by decreasing the duty cycle of the modulated pulse from 0.5 to ***,the microwave Ar/CF_(4)plasma jet is considered to be a promising fluorocarbon plasma source for surface fluorination of polymers.

The toroidal D-shaped high-temperature super-conducting (HTS) magnet structure offers several advantages, such as low leakage magnetic field and vertical magnetic field on the tapes, and excellent mechanical properties characterized by pure tensile electromagnetic stress. As a result, it finds wide application in large-scale magnetic, including superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) and magnetic confinement fusion (MCF) devices. However, the highly asymmetric three-dimensional structure impose challenges in numerical modeling and electromagnetic computations, leading to difficulties in modeling, low computational efficiency, and even computational infeasibility. The "dimension reduction inversion"method is an innovative approach for electromagnetic calculations in toroidal magnets. this paper improved upon this method and applied it to the toroidal D-shaped structure, specifically calculating the electromagnetic field and AC loss of 30MJ/5MW liquid hydrogen superconducting composite energy storage (LIQHYSMES) magnet. This research provides a feasible approach for electromagnetic computations in large-scale toroidal D-shaped HTS magnets. © 2023 IEEE.

Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) is widely used in the electric vehicle (EV) industry. Due to the instability and the cost of the position sensor, massive studies have been done to achieve the control without position sensor on PMSM. This paper analyzes the switching process from I/F strategy to Sliding Mode Observer (SMO) strategy in details, and also introduces the framework of I/F strategy with model predictive controller (MPC) as well as SMO used in the model. Furthermore, a new optimization algorithm called Angle Weighting Switching Strategy (AWSS) is proposed to smooth the transition process so as to mitigate the current-jitter and reduce speed fluctuation. Moreover, simulation between conventional switching method and the proposed method has been done to validate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control algorithm. © 2023 IEEE.

Effect of ball milling time on the microstructure and compressive properties of the Fe–Mn–Al porous steel

In the present work,Fe–Mn–Al–C powder mixtures were manufactured by elemental powders with different ball milling time,and the porous high-Mn and high-Al steel was fabricated by powder *** results indicated that the powder size significantly decreased,and the morphology of the Fe powder tended to be increasingly flat as the milling time ***,the prolonged milling duration had limited impact on the phase transition of the powder *** main phases of all the samples sintered at 640℃ were α-Fe,α-Mn and Al,and a small amount of Fe2Al5 and *** the sintering temperature increased to 1200℃,the phase composition was mainly comprised of γ-Fe and α-*** weight loss fraction of the sintered sample decreased with milling time,i.e.,8.3wt% after 20 h milling compared to15.3wt% for 10 *** Mn depletion region(MDR) for the 10,15,and 20 h milled samples was about 780,600,and 370 μm,*** total porosity of samples sintered at 640℃ decreased from ~46.6vol% for the 10 h milled powder to ~44.2vol% for 20 h milled *** sintering at 1200℃,the total porosity of sintered samples prepared by 10 and 20 h milled powder was ~58.3vol% and ~51.3vol%,*** compressive strength and ductility of the 1200℃ sintered porous steel increased as the milling time increased.

Nowadays, with the development of laser weapons, the primary power supply of laser weapons puts forward more and more high demand for its performance. The pulsed power supply based on conventional homopolar inductor alternator (HIA) cannot meet the requirements any more. In order to improve the power density and efficiency, this paper proposes applying the high-temperature superconducting (HTS) HIA with slotless stator core to this power supply. In this paper, the design considerations of it are presented, and the comparisons between the two power supplies are discussed. The calculation results show that the power supply based on HTS machine has much larger power density than the conventional HIA, and the efficiency is also larger than the conventional HIA. This can improve the performance of laser weapons dramatically. © 2023 IEEE.

Spectral radiation imaging diagnostic systems utilizing PDA (avalanche PhotoDiode Array) have been developed and deployed on the HFRC device (HUST Field Reversed Configuration Device). These systems are designed to measure Hα radiation imaging, plasma velocity, orientation, and shape. Their innovative features include higher spatial resolution, integrated system design, flexible measurement, and superior electronic performance. This paper discusses the selection of basic electronic circuits, circuit analysis, parameter design, and noise analysis in detail. The accuracy of the design is validated through simulation and practical testing. The final system parameters achieved a bandwidth of 610 kHz, low noise of 2.5 mV, approximately 3% system overshoot, and a rising time of 468.5 ns. Additionally, preliminary measurement results are provided. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

As the key power part of the linear compressor, the linear oscillatory machine (LOM) has been paid more attention by both academia and industry recently for its compact size, high efficiency, low vibration, etc. In practice, the efficiency of LOM is significantly impacted by the changes in load parameters, of which the best working point can be tracked by the resonant frequency tracking control. However, the traditional resonant frequency tracking control with the idea of stroke-current phase suffers some serious problems, like slow tracking speed, low accuracy, large current peak during starting, fluctuate amplitude of piston, and so on. In this paper, a Kalman filter for the mechanical system of LOM is proposed, which avoids the impact of environmental noise and obtains the observed values of load parameters. On this basis, a parameter correction scheme based on gradient descent method is proposed. By calculating the corresponding gradient matrix, iterative adjustment and correction of the covariance matrix in the Kalman filter are realized. The combination of the two realizes the load parameter prediction of the LOM, and on this basis, completes the frequency control of the LOM. Comprehensive simulation results have fully demonstrated the advantages of proposed control strategy compared to those of traditional methods. © 2023 IEEE.

As an important energy storage technology, lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various industrial fields, effectively alleviating the pressure of energy transition and environmental pollution. In order to ensure the safe and efficient long-term service of lithium-ion batteries, it is particularly important to accurately estimate the remaining useful life (RUL). In this paper, a novel method based on stacking model is proposed for predicting the RUL of lithium-ion batteries. Firstly, multiple health features are extracted from capacity, voltage curve, and capacity-voltage curve. Then their correlations with RUL are analyzed using state of Health (SOH), current charging time, discharge time to 3.8v, discharge time to 3.35v, discharge time in the voltage range of 3.35v-3.8v and voltage at the turning point of the charging capacity-voltage curve of lithium-ion batteries. Next, a stacking model including gradient boosting decision tree, support vector regression, random forest and multiple linear regression is constructed. Finally, to validate the accuracy of the proposed method, it is applied to batteries from the Hawaii Natural Energy Institute (HNEI) dataset, and compared with the performance of individual model. The results show that the RUL prediction error of the proposed method is only 11.3, which has a high accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

The liquid metal battery is a new energy storage technology that is gaining increasing attention due to its high safety and long life. Accurate capacity estimation is crucial for health diagnosis and pack management, providing a strong guarantee of long-term stable operation for energy systems. However, owing to the lack of aging analysis traditional methods are difficult to improve the precision in the situation of unpredictable disturbances or fluctuations, such as capacity plunge. This paper proposes a capacity estimation method based on aging features by combining machine learning and filter algorithms, this method can provide an accurate prediction even the LMB is subject to capacity plunge. First, the aging features are extracted using only a tenth of the whole information from the discharge curve and increment capacity (IC) curve. Next, the Long Short Term Memory (LSTM) network is employed to establish the state-space representation between the aging feature and the capacity. The particle filter (PF) is then combined with the state-space representation to predict the capacity. Finally, aging tests are conducted to validate the precision and effectiveness of the proposed hybrid method. These results show that the proposed method can provide robustness as well as accurate capacity prediction. © 2023 The Korean Institute of Power Electronics.
