In permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs), the synchronous inductances have important influences on both steady state and dynamic performances, such as designing control strategies, predicting torque and flux-weakening capabilities. However, standard procedures for the inductance measurement have not been established yet. This paper presents a comprehensive analysis and comparative study of the various off-line methods that can be used to measure the inductances based on their accuracy, experimental setup and complexity. These approaches can be classified into three main categories: load test, DC standstill test and AC standstill test. Moreover, with the employment of finite element analysis (FEA), qualitative comparisons are done among these methods.

In this paper, the current-carrying capacity of metalized electrode is studied. The sheet resistance of tested metalized aluminum electrode is 15Ω/□. High-speed camera is applied to record the state of the metalized aluminum electrode under pulsed current. The results show that the metalized aluminum electrode will fracture perpendicular to the direction of current. According to simulation analyses, joule heating and the electrodynamic force induced by magnetic pressure are the main causes for the fracture of metallized electrode.

This paper presents theoretical analysis and comprehensive simulations about average torque and pulsation torque of vernier permanent magnet (VPM) machine. A general torque equation is proposed which is used to analyze torque features and the parameters effect on torque performance of VPM machines in this paper. Based on the general torque equation and finite element algorithm, it is found that smooth torque is the inherent performance of VPM machines. Furthermore, It is demonstrated that the torque density of the VPM machine is larger than that of a regular commercial PM machine by almost 60%. All these advantages demonstrate that the VPM machines can obtain much better steady and dynamic drive performance. In order to validate theoretical analysis, a prototype is built, and more experiments will be available.

The sympathetic inrush is a hot issue in the field of differential protection research, due to its characteristic of concealment, diversity, and complexity. The mal-operation of differential protection probably caused by sympathetic inrush is still a difficult problem to be solved. This paper proposed a new sympathetic inrush detection method based on the on-line magnet flux calculating by integrating the measuring voltages on the tips of transformer. This method can completely overcome the negative influence of CT saturation on the differential protection from principle. The EMTDC-based simulation results prove the effectiveness of the proposed method and also verify that this method would not decrease the sensitivity of differential protection under the condition of internal fault.

According to the latest requirements of the advanced laser system, a 700 kA gas switch with graphite electrodes for pulsed power supply module has been developed. The paper describes the design, construction and testing of the high-current gas switch. Through the analysis of the electrodes erosion of different materials, high-density graphite is found to be suitable for electrodes of the gas switch with high current and charge transfer. A two-electrode gas switch with FRP rods and an updated gas switch using hoop type fastening method have been developed, the magnetic switch is used in the trigger circuit. Experimental results show that both the switches can conduct the current of over 700 kA and the charge transfer of more than 500 coulomb per shot.

This paper deeply discusses the effect of eccentricity, including static, dynamic and mixed eccentricity on the performance of FSCW SPM servo motor analytically and using finite element analysis (FEA) to validation. The effect of different kinds of eccentricity on magnetic field including magnet field and armature reaction field is described with three factor called modulation factor. The frequency and spatial mode order of radial force for static, dynamic and mixed eccentricity are analyzed and summarized with the analytical method and validated by FEA. It is found that compared with health machine, the frequency and mode order of radial force distort for eccentric machine: the static eccentricity (SE) extends the mode order but the frequency invariant while the dynamic eccentricity (DE) and mixed eccentricity (ME) change both the frequency and mode order of radial force. With the electromagnetic radial force obtained, we predict the vibration of the stator housing, and acoustic noise around the machine. The results show that due to the smallest spatial mode decrease and frequency spectra extension, the eccentric machines will have a large vibration both on load and without load for easier to resonance at some natural frequency compared with health machine. As a consequence, the noise level of eccentric machine will also enlarge. The analysis results is verified by experiment and can be explained reasonably. The work of this paper is helpful to design and analyze the motor which is used in the servo drive system and other similar occasions.

In this paper, effect of reactive power control (RPC) on the stability of DC-link voltage control (DVC) in voltage source converter (VSC) when attached to weak grid is investigated. In weak grid, disturbance in DVC leads variations in terminal voltage and makes RPC respond. In turn, RPC contributes to power output variation and influences DVC. RPC behaves as a lagging regulator for DVC and results in lagging active power output. Referencing to stability analysis theory for synchronous machine, damping and restoring components for DVC are proposed. Stability of DVC affected by RPC is analyzed by evaluating the influence of RPC on damping and restoring components. Additional damping component provided by RPC will become smaller with reduction of grid strength. In addition, when the bandwidth of RPC is close to that of DVC, effect of RPC on DVC is in maximum extent. The time-domain model of 1.5-MW full-scale wind turbine was built in Matlab/Simulink and simulation results validate the analysis above.

The paper presents an optimized control method of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) based on maximum torque-per-ampere (MTPA). Since it exists a complex nonlinear relation between the d, q axis current and the torque in PMSM, an optimized curve-fitting method is introduced to simplify the nonlinear equations of d, q axis and the toque. Based on the approximation algorithms, a new speed-current double close-loop control model is established and comparing with the traditional I d =0 and MTPA control, it balances stator current and responses quickly, and thereby improves system efficiency.

Direct-drive Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generators (DDPMSG) are gaining increasingly more attention and application for wind power. This paper presents a comparison among the performance of DDPMSG equipped with three commonly used winding types, integer-slot distributed winding (ISDW), fractional-slot concentrated winding (FSCW) and fractional-slot distributed winding (FSDW). Loss distribution, performance under short circuit fault and temperature rise are investigated and compared using finite element analysis (FEA). The conclusion is helpful for machine designers to choose the proper winding type.
