Application of micro-resonator is limited by different types of surface inhomogeneity. The 1-th derivative of inho-mogeneity (i.e. △r'(φ)) affects the wave transport as well as the height of inhomogeneity (i.e. △r(φ)). A method based on orthogonal decomposition is proposed to analysis both scattering mechanism respectively. Then surface roughness effect on Q-factor of micro-disk waveguide gallery mode (WGM) resonator is investigated with our method and the analysis fits well with FDTD simulation results.

Phase noise has a great influence on the performance of coherent optical communication. In this paper, martingale theory is introduced to analyze the phase noise effect for the first time as far as we know. Through Fubini's Theory and martingale representation theory, we proved that 1/T∫t0 exp(jws )·l(s)ds, which denotes the phase noise effect, is a pre-dictable martingale. Then Ito's formula for solution to stochastic differential equation is utilized for the analysis of phase noise effect. Using our method, a nonrecursive formula for the moments of phase noise is derived and signal-noise-ratio (SNR) degradation in coherent optical OFDM due to phase noise is calculated with our method.

Theory of quenching quantum fluctuations of a laser system with a ladder-type configuration

The theory of a laser system with a ladder-type configuration is studied in detail based on the quantum Langevin approach. By using an external field to link the lower lasing level with another atomic level, whose decay rate is much larger, laser intensity significantly increases and the quantum-limited linewidth can be quenched. We also discuss the spectrum of fluctuations of the output field, and the result shows that the fluctuations at low frequencies can be much suppressed too. On the other hand, this quenching approach can realize a laser output between two atomic levels, whose decay rates do not satisfy the usual lasing condition that the decay rate of the lower lasing level should be larger than that of the upper lasing level. It will be very useful to realize a laser output with the wavelength we want. This quenching approach has been widely used in the absorption spectrum of the ytterbium optical lattice clock and in the laser cooling approach for calcium atoms. Here we apply it in the stimulated emission of lasers.

Joint scheduling of both computation and communication resources for workflow based distributed computing application over optical networks has been studied recently. Most algorithms proposed in previous work are mainly based on static scheduling strategies with assumption that detail resource information and accurate performance prediction is available. In this paper, we propose to employ shared virtualized optical network (VON) for the task scheduling problem. Both customers and carriers can benefit from such architecture with better flexibility and scalability. Based on a new Scheduled Result Graph (SRG) concept, we propose a computation and communication delay aware rescheduling (C 2 DAR) scheme to deal with the dynamics from shared VON resources. We evaluate the performance of dynamic scheduling scheme over shared VON in comparison to the static scheduling over dedicated VON and entire optical network respectively. Simulation results also show that C 2 DAR scheme outperforms traditional computation delay aware rescheduling (CDAR) scheme under shared VON scenario.

Quantum-limited phase-matching effect in a Λ-type laser system

The theory of a quantum-limited phase-matching effect in a Λ-type lasing system is studied in detail based on the quantum Langevin approach. Two quasimonochromatic fields are directly generated based on two lasing transitions. We find that the coherence between two lasers can well exceed the linewidth of either laser field. This result denotes that two field phases match each other although either laser field has a high phase fluctuation. Unlike the phase-matching effect based on atomic absorption, the final coherence between two laser fields here is not limited by saturation broadening, and the higher laser intensities lead to a higher coherence. Additionally, based on a linear stability analysis, we find that the instability of the field steady state can substantially restrict the occurrence of this phase-matching effect in the bad-cavity limit for a high pump rate. We also discuss the spectrum of amplitude fluctuations of output fields, and the result shows that the squeezing of amplitude fluctuations at low frequencies for a single field oscillating inside the cavity is damaged in the case of two fields oscillating.

A robust color image watermark scheme using kinoform is proposed. The kinoform has relatively less information than regular computer-generated hologram (CGH) as a watermark image embedded in a color Lena. The kinoform is transformed into a non-cascade iterative encrypted kinoform watermark with non-cascade phase retrieve algorithm and random fractional Fourier transform. This kinoform watermark is embedded in the color cover image, which can be extracted with the only right phase key and right fractional order, and reconstructed to represent original watermark image. In color image, our experimental results have been shown in high security, good imperceptibly, and robustness to resist attacks, such as noise, compression, cropping and so on.

The effectiveness of Large Language Models (LLMs) in tasks involving reasoning is significantly influenced by the structure and formulation of the prompts, contemporary research in prompt engineering aims to help LLMs better understand the paradigms of reasoning question (e.g., CoT). However, these efforts have either struggled to effectively incorporate external knowledge into single prompt or integrating entire corpus information, often fails to significantly enhance the reasoning capabilities of LLMs. This paper introduces a novel prompting method that incorporates implicit hints that represent logical combinatorial relationships between known conditions in reasoning problems, guiding LLMs to think correctly in the initial steps of reasoning for such problems. Extensive and comprehensive experiment results on four different reasoning problem datasets indicate that our proposed method improved accuracy while maintaining efficiency.
