Ultra-selective separation-aggregation operation using polarization-insensitive rectangular optical filters based on stimulated Brillouin scattering in optical fibre has been realized. Extracting a ~2-GHz dual-polarization OFDM signal from an ultra-dense multiplex with ~300-MHz guard-band shows only ~1-dB penalty for QPSK format.

Through wet-chemical assembly methods, gold nanorods were placed close to each other and formed a dimer with a gap distance *1 nm, and hence degenerated plasmonic dipole modes of individual nanorods coupled together to produce hybridized bonding and antibonding resonance modes. Previous studies using a condenser for illumination result in averaged signals over all excitation angles. By exciting an individual dimer obliquely at different angles, we demonstrate that these two new resonance modes are highly tunable and sensitive to the angle between the excitation polarization and the dimer orientation, which follows cos2 u dependence. Moreover, for dimer structures with various structure angles, the resonance wavelengths as well as the refractive index sensitivities were found independent of the structure angle. Calculated angle-resolved plasmonic properties are in good agreement with the measurements. The assembled nanostructures investigated here are important for fundamental researches as well as potential applications when they are used as building blocks in plasmon-based optical and optoelectronic devices.

We experimentally demonstrate a three-dimensional (3D) ghost imaging method based on period diffraction correlation imaging. Compared with conventional ghost imaging, our method can easily retrieve the images of different focal planes. Due to the correlation between the disturbed object beam and the reference beams which do not pass through any scattering, the clear images can be periodically obtained in the uncovered zones even through a scattering medium. The analysis of the 3D imaging resolution reveals that the proper resolution for actual demand can be achieved by designing our devices. The implementation of this experiment is quite simple and low-cost. It facilitates the practical applications of ghost imaging.

network virtualization supports predicted network performance for applications by providing tenants with a virtual data center in multi-tenant data centers. The Hose model was recently extended for the virtual network abstraction and deployed in an Oktopus system, which offers the trade-off between cost and network performance. Embedding algorithms based on Oktopus model were well studied in the single-root tree topology. In this paper, we investigate congestion-aware allocation of virtual data centers in multipath networks. First, we formulate bandwidth constraints with linear programming, and provide a complete solution with exhaustive searching. Next, to reduce time complexity, we propose a perturbation algorithm to VM placement, which detects the bandwidth bottleneck of the current virtual machine placement and then adjusts the assignment to reduce congestion. The perturbation algorithm is compatible with both load-balanced and single-path routing algorithms. We compare the performance of the exhaustive searching algorithm and perturbation algorithm with load-balanced or single-path routing by simulations. The perturbation algorithm with load-balanced routing performs close to the exhaustive searching algorithm while significantly reduces the time complexity. Therefore, it offers a good tradeoff between time complexity and network performance.

We experimentally demonstrate superchannel transmission of 515 Gb/s polarization division multiplexing (PDM) 128-QAM over 155-km standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) with erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) amplification.
