Lagrangian Modelling and Motion Stability of Synchronous Generator-based power Systems

This paper proposes to analyze the motion stability of synchronous generator-based power systems using a Lagrangian model derived in the configuration space of generalized position and speed.A Lagrangian model of synchronous generators is derived based on Lagrangian *** generalized potential energy of inductors and the generalized kinetic energy of capacitors are *** mechanical and electrical dynamics can be modelled in a unified manner by constructing a Lagrangian *** the first benchmark model of sub-synchronous oscillation as an example,a Lagragian model is constructed,and a numerical solution of the model is obtained to validate the accuracy and effectiveness of the *** with the traditional EMTP model in PSCAD,the obtained Lagrangian model is able to accurately describe the electromagnetic transient process of the ***,the Lagrangian model is analytical,which enables the analysis of the motion stability of the system using Lyapunov's motion stability *** Lagrangian model can not only be used for discussing the power angle stability but also for analyzing the stability of node voltages and system *** provides the feasibility for studying the unified stability of power systems.

Stability Comparison Between Grid-forming and Grid-following Based Wind Farms Integrated MMC-HVDC

Grid-forming(GFM)control based high-voltage DC(HVDC)systems and renewable energy sources(RESs)provide support for enhancing the stability of power ***,the interaction and coordination of frequency support between the GFM-based modular multilevel converter based HVDC(MMC-HVDC)and grid-following(GFL)based RESs or GFM-based RESs have not been fully investigated,which are examined in this ***,the detailed AC-and DC-side impedances of GFM-based MMC-HVDC are *** impedance characteristics of GFL-and GFM-based wind turbines are next ***,the influences of GFL-and GFM-based wind farms(WFs)on the DC-and AC-side stabilities of WF-integrated MMC-HVDC systems are compared and *** results show that the GFM-based wind turbine performs better than the GFL-based wind ***,to support a receiving-end AC system,the corresponding frequency supporting strategies are proposed based on the GFM control for WF-integrated MMC-HVDC *** GFM-based WF outperforms the GFL-based WF in terms of stability and response *** in PSCAD/EMTDC demonstrate the DC-and AC-side stability issues and seamless grid support from the RESs,i.e.,WFs,to the receiving-end AC system.

Over-voltage is the major concern of constraint when assessing the maximum PV that can be integrated into the distribution network. A hosting capacity calculation methodology considering PV inverter voltage control based on fair rule is proposed in this paper. The method utilizes a dual binary searching algorithm in which the PV capacity and reaction power output of inverter are both changed iteratively. Using a testing distribution network, the proposed method is compared with other typical methods based on stepwise searching strategy and constant-power-factor inverter control mode. The precision and computational effectiveness of the proposed method is thus verified through comparison results. © 2024 IEEE.

After the large-scale integration of new energy, the power grid will exhibit weak grid characteristics, which will lead to prominent issues of inertia and harmonics in the power grid. Existing literature mainly focuses on studying the improvement of power grid stability through grid control, with less research on harmonic problems. This paper addresses the issue of the interaction between background voltage harmonics and load current harmonics in weak power grids. Through impedance reshaping, a harmonic suppression technology based on grid-forming control is proposed to achieve synergistic optimization of voltage quality and grid current quality. The correctness of the proposed method was verified through simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

The demand for renewable energy has driven the large scale development of the distributed generation (DG) integration, and the DG access restrictions problem of the distributed network is gradually becoming prominent. In order to evaluate DG accessing to distribution network and search the maximum hosting capacity of distribution network to improve renewable energy accommodation, this paper proposes a hosting capacity comprehensive evaluation method of DG, which considering the aspects of DG access capacity, thermal stability, voltage deviation, and network losses. Furthermore, for the purpose of enhancing the DG hosting capacity and and ensuring that distribution system operates within an optimal range, an optimization problem is formulated in this article, which considering branch flow of second-order cone constraints to deal with optimal power flow, and using segmentation algorithm to address the issue. Finally, the proposed optimization method effectiveness is demonstrated by a typical radial distribution network. © 2024 IEEE.

Large-scale renewable energy transmission via thevoltage source converter (VSC) based high-voltage direct current(HVDC) is a crucial development direction for constructing anew-typed power system in China. However, renewable energy ischaracterized by volatility, intermittency, and randomness. Whenthe sending-end modular multilevel converter (MMC) cannotadapt to the rapid fluctuations in renewable energy output, itsenergy balance will be disrupted by the active power differencebetween the AC and DC sides, causing issues such as widebandoscillations and exacerbated circulating currents. To solve theproblem mentioned above, a novel energy balance-based controlmethod for MMCs connected to wind farms is proposed in thispaper, enabling the MMC to effectively adapt to fluctuationsin renewable energy output and naturally maintain circulatingcurrent at a relatively low level. Firstly, the evolution principleillustrating topology decomposition and reconfiguration of theMMC is revealed. Secondly, the control method for AC internalvoltage is proposed, which combines the energy balance betweenthe half MMCs and voltage amplitude support. Thirdly, the DCinternal voltage is defined, and its control method is proposedbased on the MMC’s overall energy balance. Then, independentcontrol of each bridge arm is achieved by integrating the energybalance of the bridge arms with both the AC and DC internalvoltages. Finally, an electromagnetic transient simulation modelis built with PSCAD/EMTDC, and the efficacy and practicalityof the proposed method are demonstrated through extensivesimulation experiments.

In order to ensure the stable operation of Stacked Multicell Converters (SMC), active control method is usually used to balance the voltage of flying capacitors. The active control method needs more voltage sensors to obtain the voltage value of the flying capacitor, which will lead to high cost and poor robustness of the system. An observer is a typical solution that can replace a voltage sensor and a sampling circuit to achieve the same effect. In this paper, a sliding mode observer method based on switched linear model is proposed to estimate the flying capacitor voltage. Compared with the traditional sliding mode observer, the proposed method can effectively eliminate chattering phenomenon, and has the advantages of faster convergence rate and higher estimation accuracy. Simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility and superiority of the proposed method. © Beijing Paike Culture Commu. Co., Ltd. 2025.

In order to manage integration of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) into the grid, calculation of maximum allowable access capacity of DER is essential. This paper introduced a method of DER hosting capacity calculation based on PSO algorithm. The access capacity in each grid point is set as one element in particle coding chain. Using a testing case study of typical distribution network, the proposed method is conducted. Also, by changing the parameters involved in PSO, the impact of Iteration times, Scale of swarm as well as Calculation times are discussed and compared. Experimental results can prove the convergence and effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2024 SPIE.
