The crystallographic structures and magnetic properties of a Zn0.95Co0.05O thin film deposited on a C-sapphire substrate using a dual-beam pulsed laser deposition method were characterized. It was shown from crystallographic analysis that the film belongs to the wurtzite structure with the C-axis aligned with that of the substrate. Magnetic hysteresis loops were observed till up to room temperature. A small peak around 55 K was noticed on the magnetization vs. temperature curve. The corresponding temperature of the small peak is close to that of ‘the abnormal peak’ reported by X.M. Zhang et al. From the results obtained, no correlation was found between the abnormal peak and the quantum effects. The magnetic behaviors in the Zn0.95Co0.05O film cannot be explained by the ferromagnetism in diluted magnetic semiconductors. The magnetic mechanisms in ZnO-based diluted magnetic semiconductors are also discussed.

In our work, we mainly use a lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) to simulate the underlying dynamics of miscible mixtures in binary fluid simulation called TFLBM. However, it suffers from the limitation of only resolving mixture flows with low Reynolds number, and it would blow up when the Reynolds number gets higher. In order to resolve such mixture flows with higher Reynolds number, by further investigation, we proposed to use a subgrid method to stabilize the computation of two fluid mixtures. The idea of the subgrid method is to split the actual velocity field into large-scale (resolved) and small-scale (unresolved) components. The effect of the unresolved motion on the resolved one is included by introducing a so-called eddy viscosity, and the method is also referred to as large eddy simulation (LES).

In this paper,we propose a novel method that represents the highly-complex point sets by clustering the points to normal-mapped B-spline surfaces (NBSs). The main idea is to construct elaborate normal maps on simple surfaces for the realistic rendering of complex point-set models. Based on this observation,we developed the coarse,normal-mapped B-spline surfaces to approximate the original point datasets with fine surface details. In our algorithm,a genetic clustering algorithm is proposed to automatically segment the point samples into several clusters according to their statistical properties,and a network of B-spline patches with normal maps are constructed according to the clustering results. Our experimental results show that this representation facilitates the modeling and rendering of complex point sets without losing the visual qualities.

Among all the methods for multiple sequence alignment, progressive alignment is the most popular technique because of its simplicity and *** main drawback of progressive alignment is that the errors occurring in early stages can not be corrected in later *** this paper, we propose a novel algorithm called ProAnt which combines ant colony optimization and progressive alignment to improve the accuracy of alignment To avoid the errors occurring in the early stage, the algorithm first calculates the posterior probability of all pairs of characters using ant colony optimization and probabilistic consistency *** the algorithm computes the final alignment using progressive method where the matching score of character pair is replaced by their posterior *** results on data from the BAliBASE database show that our algorithm can obtain much more accurate results and higher speed than the other progressive alignment method.

Grid computing is becoming the prominent paradigm for resource exchange and collaboration, which are supported by dynamic, multi-institutional virtual organizations (VOs) overcoming limitations of time or space. As the de-facto standard for grid security, grid security infrastructure provides no effective mechanism to protect both resource providers and users from access of malicious entities. The trusted computing (TC) technology adopted by the trusted computing group (TCG) defines that an entity can be trusted as long as it always behaves in the expected manner. Specifically, the TC uses a hardware module called trusted platform module (TPM) to ensure the tamper-proof attestative behavior by integrity measurement, logging and report. In this paper, we propose and design a TC enabled system based on Linux and TPM hardware to enforce access control policy for the VO.

This paper present a parallel framework for interactively rendering massive complex scenes on PCs cluster. The framework integrates parallel rendering, scene graph, software acceleration techniques, and out-of-core data management. We propose a novel parallel rendering architecture based on dynamic rendering team and hybrid rendering pipeline to balance work load and to handle different graphics primitive distribution. A unified scene graph representation is designed for flexible object manipulation in upper applications and efficient rendering in lower rendering pipeline. We present a priority-based out-of-core data management scheme which guarantees fixed memory footprint and data scheduling efficiency. We have implemented this framework and developed two applications to test its performance on a cluster of 32 PCs: a walkthrough application for massive complex scenes and a distributed multi- player video game.

This research aims to quantify natural surveillance in urban areas, an important factor for Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED), with high resolution. This quantification considers the effect of detailed configurations of geographical features such as buildings, trees, and fences, which are difficult to model with CAD-based design, on visibility. We define natural surveillance as visibility from roads, and measure such visibility in urban areas by using laser scanning systems borne on a motor vehicle or a hand truck. Visibility can be measured by supposing a laser beam as a human gaze. The measured areas include a neighborhood known to have a high rate of invasion theft and a crime prevention model district in Japan. The results are visualized in 2-D and 3-D space, and the effect of the detailed configurations of geographical features on visibility can be recognized. We propose that a vehicle-borne laser scanning system is useful for measuring natural surveillance in urban areas.
