Cleanliness of energy system requires both NOx reduction due to urgent air pollution control and CO2 cutting due to long-term climate change pressure. In the urban heating sector, quick-win plans use to be popular that focus on the NOx reduction by replacing untreated scattered coal fired boilers to natural gas or combined heat and power generators (CHPs). Meanwhile, in the electrical sector, all these fossil fuel generators should be cut down in the long-term decarbonization process. There should be a need for coordination of short- and long-term targets, because two energy supply sectors are believed to work in a coupled way in the future. A three-layered collaborative planning model is proposed in this paper: the top layer focuses roadmap economic evaluation;the middle layer applies coupled production simulation aiming at verifying energy balance;and the bottom one checks real-time operational feasibility. Pathways are made from 2020 to 2040 based on Hebei, China. Results indicate that the pathway with quick win will have delayed construction of renewable power, resulting the slow process in emission control. The long-term strategy scheme greatly promotes the renewables for supply in both sectors, but the close operational link forces the decoupling, leading to rebound on emission and operation cost on decentralized heating for the long-term future. In conclusion, the tradeoff pathway, reducing CO2 emission as much as possible with NOx emission controlled to acceptable level, is recommended with good performance on emission control and economy. © 2020 IEEE.

In order to reduce the randomness and fluctuation of wind power, numerical weather prediction is usually used to forecast power generation. Due to the redundancy of numerical weather prediction factors, dimensionality reduction is carried out to improve the effectiveness of data processing and reduce the complexity of algorithm. In this paper, the multicollinearity diagnosis is carried out to show the existence of multicollinearity among numerical weather prediction variables. The ridge regression method is adopted to screen variables, so as to reduce the dimension of numerical weather prediction data, which are trained later by back propagation neural network or convolutional neural network to fit corresponding power data. In comparison with results using training data without preprocessing, dimensionality reduction can improve predicting effect in most cases and reduce the error caused by improper selection of neural network. © 2022 IEEE.

The lack of analytical mechanism of continuous commutation failure (CCF) process hinders the development of CCF early warning algorithm and further obstructs the coordination strategy of relay protection between AC and DC size in hybrid grid. However, summarizing the protection threshold of CCF in the form of electrical quantity analytically under different fault types is a nontrivial pattern recognition problem. To overcome the difficulty of directly analysing the electromagnetic process of CCF, a statistical learning modelling approach is adapted to propose a CCF warning system, in which XGBoost algorithm was used as the backbone to regress on the relationship between AC/DC electrical quantities and the possibility of the occurrence of CCF. The design of the feature vector in XGBoost-based classifier considers not only the analytical expression of key electrical quantity during single commutation failure but also the important state variable of control system. Additionally, a special data windowing method was proposed to enrich of information encoded by the feature vector while ensuring the speed requirement posed by the protection system. Validation on multi-fault scenes simulation shows that the proposed early warning system can trigger warning signal correctly with sufficiently small measured data required, proving the practicability in engineering practice. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology. Performance of a power system security early warning and control system depends on accuracy of power grid parameter to a great extent. It is important to develop a practical branch parameter estimation method. From the results of expanded state estimation application, which is a representative parameter estimation method proposed before, it often happened that the parameters could not be estimated or estimated imprecisely. Focusing on IEEE 9 and a real-life area power grid in China, deep research on expanded state estimation method is carried out. As a result, these numerical instability and local optimization problems existing in the method were found here. A novel parameter estimation method based on Tabu search strategy is proposed to overcome these problems existing in the expanded state estimation method. Its good behavior in numerical stability and global optimization is verified by numerical tests on IEEE 9 and the real-life area power grid in China.

A two-level distributed state estimation method for substation-dispatch center is proposed. After zero impedance three-phase state estimation based on KCL has been applied in substation, up load ripe data are treated in dispatch center level and the single-phase state estimation for all grid implemented. The detailed discussions about the architecture, algorithm, ripe data transmission, time setting and period selection, transmission protocol and transition scheme for the method are given. The results of calculation example show that this method is in favor of simultaneously identifying three-phase bad data and topology error, reducing communication burden, and increasing the reliability of the dispatch center state estimation for all grid. © 2012 state Grid Electric Power Research Institute Press.

In this paper, the heat transfer rate of parallel flow heat exchanger was obtained in the condition of non-uniform flow distribution by 3D numerical simulation. The maximum theoretical heat transfer rate of parallel flow heat exchanger was obtained through 1D calculation. Ultimately, the correlation of the influence of non-uniform flow distribution on heat transfer efficiency was obtained by the comparative analysis of non-uniform flow distribution and heat transfer efficiency and regression calculation. It was found that the forecasted heat transfer efficiency error of correlation was within 2%. © (2014) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

Reactive power optimization with discrete control variables can be formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem, which is a typical NP-hard problem in mathematics. This paper proposed a Gaussian penalty function based approach to handle discrete variables, in which the discrete variables were relaxed to continuous variables. The properties of the optimization model with Gaussian penalty function, as well as how it could be affected by parameters, were discussed. Then a practical algorithm combining nonlinear interior point method and a heuristic parameters tuning strategy was developed to solve the optimization problem. Finally, numerical experiments were taken on different systems, including IEEE standard systems and several real power systems with varying scales, to verify the robustness and practicability of the proposed method. © 2013 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

Forward electricity market has emerged as a pivotal section for the electricity transaction to keep stakeholders away from price risk and electricity shortage. But the forward contract of conventional unit partially limits the unit output before operation, leading to the curtailed generation share of renewable energy source (RES). Modeling and assessing this impact is of great significance for system planning and market supervision. The central thesis of this paper is to find out the impact of forward market on RES curtailment. A probabilistic evaluation model for RES accommodation is proposed, taking the curtailment rate as a main evaluation index. We mainly research financial contract and physical contract, modeling the impact of them on thermal unit minimum load capacity and power load in evaluation model. The simulation is conducted in a simplified system, which reveals the change of RES curtailment with renege penalty, contract price and execution generation curve. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.
