For PD pattern recognition, six kinds of typical cable fault models are made and tested. Characteristics are calculated from test data. Multiple statistical characteristics of PD distribution map are calculated and pattern vectors are formed. Artificial neural network is trained for recognition. Through the selection and adjustment of characteristics and network parameters, recognition effect with satisfactory result is obtained.

Neither electromechanical transient stability analysis (TSA) program nor electromagnetic transient (EMT) programs can be used individually for the transient stability studies of the large scale AC/DC systems. This paper presented an electromagnetic and electromechanical hybrid simulation system, based on a frequency dependent network equivalent. Firstly, the framework and the main modules of the proposed hybrid simulation system were introduced. Secondly, the methods to calculate the equivalents of the electromagnetic side and the electromechanical side were introduced. The discussion on the difference between the traditional method and frequency dependent network equivalent (FDNE) and the flowchart of the hybrid simulation were also given. In the last part of the paper, AC system and AC-DC hybrid system are both used as examples to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed hybrid simulation system's simulation results. © 2012 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

Energy crisis and environmental concerns have led to the rapid development of renewable energy sources(RES). However, the fluctuating and unpredictable nature of RES reduce the reliability of the power systems. Using compressed air energy storage(CAES) is one of the main solutions to this problem. In this paper, three typical operation modes of CAES are adopted to improve the flexibility of the wind-CAES hybrid system, and a risk-constrained economic dispatch model considering the uncertainty of wind power and the part-load characteristics of CAES is proposed. Scenario generation and reduction technique is applied to model the uncertainties and a piecewise linearization method is used to incorporate the part-load features into the mixed integer linear programming model. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology is studied in a modified IEEE RTS 24-bus system.

Effects of Counterion Type on Standard Anion Exchange Resin-Based Selective Arsenic Removal Process for Polluted Groundwater

This study demonstrated the remarkable effect of counterion type (i.e., chloride or bicarbonate) on selective arsenic (As) removal from polluted groundwater by the combination of a standard anion exchange resin (standard AER) column and spent brine electrocoagulation (or chemical coagulation) during long-term cyclic operation. Either chloride or bicarbonate counterion resulted in successful preference for trace arsenate over sulfate during the exhaustion of a standard AER column after its circular activation/regeneration by optimized binary brines;this process yielded quality product water during 18 exhaustion–regeneration cycles without brine replacement or purification. Furthermore, they both ensured selective As removal from As-rich spent brine by iron (Fe)- or aluminum (Al)-based chemical coagulation, and chloride counterion ensured selective As removal from As-rich spent brine by Fe- or Al-based electrocoagulation. However, high bicarbonate concentration in spent brine resulted in no significant Fe- or Al-based electrocoagulation reaction because of passivation film formation on the anode surface. Based on the differences in metal dosage, sludge production, and residual metal concentration, Fe-based electrocoagulation and chloride-based binary brine are recommended during the standard AER-based selective As removal process for polluted groundwater. Finally, the operational data over 114 exhaustion–regeneration cycles supported the stability and high As-selectivity of the combined process, thus providing a good solution for the disposal of spent brine that is frequently generated during the ion exchange process. © 2022, The Authors. Interval economic dispatch model with uncertain wind power injection and spatial branch and bound method

Power injection becomes stochastic due to large-scale wind power integration into power grid, which greatly challenges the traditional power grid. If the uncertainty is modelled using the interval number, the solution of economic dispatch model can also be represented as an interval number. To achieve the precise upper and lower bound, two deterministic programming models were deduced: the optimistic solution can be obtained by an optimistic model using linear programming, whereas the pessimistic solution achieved by a pessimistic model is an NP-hard problem, which can be transformed into a bilinear programming by duality theory. Then a linear relaxation technology, spatial branch and bound method were used to obtain the global pessimistic solution. Therefore, the interval bound information can provide the operator with institutive bound information for the future security assessment. Finally, a test system with 15 generators and 300 nodes was studied at different time scales. The result, compared with interior point method and enumeration, shows the effectiveness of proposed method. © 2014 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

Compared with other conventional energy sources, renewable energy, which results in less pollution and has numerous resources, is a significant factor in addressing the current issues of the serious environmental pollution and the resource depletion. Large-scale renewable energy connected to the grid could lead to a the change of the morphological structure and the operation modes of energy transmission. While current power grid evolution models did not consider the characteristics of renewable energy in the evolution strategy. The expansion mechanism of the future transmission network with a high proportion of renewable energy is studied in this paper. The operation cost including renewable energy curtailment are optimized using the production simulations, where the stochastic and intermittent of wind and solar energy are modeled. And the dual variable information is adopted to drive the grid upgrading. The expansion strategies for power grid of Zhejiang province in China are analyzed to balance the construction cost and curtailment cost of renewable energy.

CoMn spinel (CoMn) and Zn-substituted CoMn spinel (ZnCoMn) oxides were fabricated for revealing mechanism differences in acetone and propane catalytic oxidation. The temperature-conversion profiles, intrinsic reaction rate and activation energy convinced that CoMn and ZnCoMn exhibited high catalytic performance for acetone and propane oxidation, respectively. Experimental and theoretical investigation revealed that deep oxidation determined the acetone conversion, while the degradation of propane was governed by the fracture of C-H bond and subsequently the activation of C3H7. CoMn possessed more active lattice oxygen and superior oxygen activation capacity, allowing acetone to be directly converted into carboxylates without generating aldehydes. ZnCoMn with more high valence Mn species was conductive to the C-H bond dissociation and C3H7 activation. This work revealed the mutual relations between structure-property of the spinel oxides and reactivity of the diverse VOCs, which provided new insights for the rational design of spinel oxides for catalytic oxidation of diverse VOCs. © 2023, The Authors. This paper presents a new practical backup power supply connection scheme for distribution line non-communication protection (DNCP). simulation tests have been conducted using the alternate transient program (ATP) with respect to a typical single circuit breaker multi-section system. The results prove that the new scheme is able to not only recover the power supply of loads on healthy lines automatically, but also create disturbances in favor of accelerated over current (AOC) criterion. Aiming at the failure of directional under voltage (DUV) criterion derived from high voltage and large capacity induction motor load, a novel criterion using the increment of reactive power is proposed.

Enhancing the electrical performance of silicone rubber (SiR) for cable accessories is noteworthy as they are almost the weakest parts of the cable system. Two types of voltage stabilizers were grafted onto the surface of nano-zirconia (ZrO 2 ) particles, and the grafted nanoparticles were added to the SiR. Measurements such as breakdown strength, and conductivity were carried out to evaluate the electrical performance of SiR nanocomposites. The electrical performance measurement results indicated that the breakdown strength of the nanocomposite SiR improved while the conductance current was reduced. The trap distribution showed that the improvement of the electrical performance of the nanocomposite SiR is mainly due to the decrease of the shallow trap density or the increase of the deep trap density.

A dynamic multi-level temporal and spatial coordination method for orderly power utilization based on customer load curtailment cost characteristics

When there is power supply shortage or emergency event in power system, orderly power utilization needs to be applied to cut down electricity demand to maintain power supply for important electricity consumers. Current orderly power utilization fails to consider curtailment costs for different regions and customers, and ignores temporal continuity and production regularity of customer, leading to inefficient load curtailment scheduling. This paper proposes a dynamic multi-level temporal and spatial coordinated shortage allocation method considering customer load curtailment costs for orderly power utilization. Load curtailment cost function is established from individual customer level up to provincial electrical grid level. An optimization model is proposed to strategically rearrange customer load profiles across multiple periods. Case studies show that the method efficiently coordinates power shortage in temporal and spatial scale, and significantly brings down economic cost due to curtailment allocation. This model could help promote customer satisfaction level in orderly power utilization. © 2016, Power System Technology Press. All right reserved.
