This work is concerned with the small signal stability problem in multi-machine systems. By means of H∞ theory, firstly the math model with disturbances is constructed;and secondly, the excitation control law for each generator is designed based on solving Riccati Equation. Finally, simulations performed on 4-machine system shows that the proposed H ∞ method has more advantages over LQR method in both damping ratio and H∞ norm of the corresponding closed-loop system and so can enhance the small signal stability of power system greatly.

Effects of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics in oil-impregnated pressboard insulation under combined AC–DC voltage

Due to the complexity of the valve side winding voltage of the converter transformer, the insulation characteristics of the oil-impregnated pressboard(OIP) of the converter transformer are different from those of the traditional AC transformer. The study on effect of temperature on the creeping discharge characteristics of OIP under combined AC–DC voltage is seriously inadequate. Therefore, this paper investigates the characteristics of OIP creepage discharge under combined AC–DC voltage and discusses the influence of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics under different temperatures from 70 °C to 110 °C. The experimental results show that the partial discharge inception voltage and flashover voltage decrease with increasing temperature. The times of low amplitude discharge(LAD) decrease and amplitude of LAD increases. Simultaneously, the times of high amplitude discharge(HAD) gradually increase at each stage of creepage discharge with higher temperature. The analysis indicates that the charge carriers easily accumulate and quickly migrate directional movement along the electric field ahead of discharging. The residual charge carriers are more easily dissipated after *** ‘hump’ region of LAD moves to the direction of higher discharge magnitude. The interval time between two continuous discharges is shortened obviously. The concentration of HAD accelerates the development of OIP insulation creepage discharge. The temperature had an accelerating effect on the development of discharge in the OIP under applying voltage.

This study utilizes hot dry rock(HDR)geothermal energy,which is not affected by climate,to address the capacity allocation of photovoltaic(PV)-storage hybrid power systems(HPSs)in frigid plateau *** study replaces the conventional electrochemical energy storage system with a stable HDR plant assisted by a flexible thermal storage(TS)*** HPS consisting of an HDR plant,a TS plant,and a PV plant is *** approaches are introduced to establish the game pattern model of the proposed HPS as the *** annualized income of each player is used as the payoff ***,non-cooperative game and cooperative game approaches for capacity allocation are proposed according to the interests of each player in the proposed ***,the proposed model and approaches are validated by performing calculations for an HPS in the Gonghe Basin,Qinghai,China as a case *** results show that in the proposed non-cooperative game approach,the players focus only on the individual payoff and neglect the overall system *** proposed cooperative game approach for capacity allocation improves the flexibility of the HPS as well as the payoff of each game ***,the HPS can better satisfy the power fluctuation rate requirements of the grid and increase the equivalent firm capacity(EFC)of PV plants,which in turn indirectly guarantees the reliability of grid operation.

Speed prediction of roads is an important part of intelligent transportation system(ITS). Due to the complexity of the traffic environment, the speed of road is not only related to the historical speed of this road, but also has a strong relationship with the adjacent roads. In recent years, with the development and application of various data acquisition devices, a large amount of real-time traffic status information can be obtained. In this paper, we propose a road speed prediction method based on deep learning. Firstly, the method extracts the spatial correlation between the target road and the adjacent roads by convolutional neural networks(CNN). Secondly, long short-term memory(LSTM) is used to obtain the temporal correlation of the data and effectively capture the nonlinear features in the traffic speed sequence. Finally, a multilayer perceptron(MLP) is used to combine the spatio-temporal features. In this paper, the prediction accuracy of the model is evaluated on a real traffic dataset. Compared with traditional statistical methods and advanced deep learning methods, the speed prediction model in this paper obtains a more accurate prediction performance. © 2021 IEEE.

With the trend of electricity market deregulation for recent decades, the consumers at demand-side are progressively encouraged to trade the power in competitive market environment. Conventionally, only large-scale consumers participate directly in the wholesale market that adopts spot energy pricing. Most small-scale consumers are involved in the retail market that offers non-varying tariff predefined by retailers or utility companies. In this work, we investigate a framework of coordinated wholesale and retail market structure that enables consumers in the retail market to reflect the spot price and improve the power system flexibility for the high penetration of renewables. Then, market behaviors of demand-side participants with the proposed market mechanism and some related business models are discussed. The following participation modes for consumers could be opted including: direct trade, trade agented by retailers or organized in virtual power plant (VPP). For a pool-based trade at demand-side, a bi-level market clearing mechanism at transmission and distribution levels is explained. This mechanism seeks to optimize the global demand profile for hosting renewables while solving the operating constraint of loads and local networks. This study can offer constructive advises to promote further development of China's electricity market. © 2019 IEEE.

Photovoltaic energy storage systems(PV ESS), which use energy storage to address the intermittent nature of PV, have been developed to utilize PV more efficiently to lower grid carbon emissions and to mitigate the peak load pressure of distribution network. Due to the significant temporal impact of photovoltaic, the operation of photovoltaic energy storage systems might highly related to the temporal characteristics of the given load profile;however, there is lack of research on the economic impact of the load profiles on the photovoltaic energy storage systems. To fill this gap, an economic comparison is conducted to evaluate the cost-benefit of photovoltaic energy storage systems for different load profiles from a perspective of large industrial consumers in this paper. A method for sizing the capacity of photovoltaic and energy storage based on a given load profile is proposed, and an economic evaluation model considering the cost-benefit of the investment and operation of photovoltaic and energy storage system, as well as the reduction of distribution transformer capacity is proposed. The proposed model is implemented to two typical load profiles in a case study, and the results show the importance of load shapes for matching PV energy storage systems. © 2023 IEEE.

The distribution network detection devices are generally using two kinds of instrument current transformer (ICT), of which one is used to transform the travelling wave and transient signals, while the other is used to transform the power frequency signals. Such scheme is neither necessary nor economical. This paper analyses the influences of sampling resistance, stray capacitance and magnetizing inductance on the frequency characteristic of ICT. Considering that fault zero sequence transient current has big transient component and small power frequency component, an ICT with wide band frequency accuracy has been chosen. Practical experiments have been done. The technical parameters given by the instrument factory are only within 20-20kHz. The characteristics in higher frequency are seldom reported due to the lack of test means. The experiments in this paper is based on the transient tester instrument and current amplifiers developed by our laboratory, which can output wide frequency band current within 20Hz-100kHz up to 50A. Experiment shows that, the predicted results were in good agreement with the measured ones.

This paper presents the study of a long electric arc in free air due to lightning stroke on the parallel gap lightning protection device (PGLPD) on high-voltage overhead transmission lines. Based on the latest electric arc model, the analysis method of the magnetic field generated by the current flowing through the PGLPD, electric arc, transmission lines, steel tower, and ground wires is developed, and the movement process of the long arc along the surface of the insulator strings is simulated. The simulation results are in agreement with the experimental results. The study is very helpful for the optimal design and suitable assemblage of the PGLPD. © 2006 IEEE.

The signal of travelling wave has the merit of immunity to system oscillation, transition resistance, CT saturation and the neutral point operation modes;it has been widely applied in field of fault detection and protection. Especially in isolated neutral grounded wind farm distribution network, the algorithm using multiple-bay travelling wave's information can exclusively achieve the fast fault feeder selection and tripping. However, travelling wave sampling frequency tends to reach 500 to 1000 times of that in algorithms with power frequency signal. The direct of travelling wave sampling data sharing in process bus would produce the communication block, and weaken the security of whole substation automation. To solve this problem, the performance of communication in process bus is theoretically analyzed and simulated in this paper, the communication requirement of travelling waves is quantified, and then a feasible scheme is proposed with data pre-processing and fault characteristic abstraction moving forward into the merging unit. simulations prove its validity. The work in paper can promote the wide application of travelling waves in substation based on IEC61850.
