Summary form only given: Communication network brings new challenges such as time delay and data loss to wide-area damping control of power systems. The uncertainty caused by stochastic time delay of network communication increases the difficulty of wide-area control performance analysis. This paper proposes a mathematical expectation modeling approach to model and analyze wide-area controlled power systems considering the effect of stochastic time delay. In the proposed method, mathematical expectation of stochastic time delay distribution is derived to accurately model the impact of communication network on wide-area control performance. The theoretical frame of the proposed modeling approach is presented and the effectiveness of the method is verified through the simulation of a power system with 8 generators and 36 nodes.

The shafting drivetrain of the doubly fed wind turbine is the part with the highest failure rate. The electromagnetic torque fluctuation caused by the grid fault easily results in the torsional vibration fatigue loss of the shaft. Accordingly, the influences of drivetrain fatigue life loss under different grid faults require investigation. Firstly, the four-mass model of the drivetrain is constructed on the basis of MATlab/Simuhnk. Secondly, the electromagnetic torque response under short-circuit fault of the grid is obtained via model simulation. Finally, the effects of different types of grid faults on the fatigue life of the drivetrain are analysed through Mlife. Results show that the electromagnetic torque fluctuation load generated by grid fault has no apparent influence on the fatigue life of the drivetrain in the short term. but the cumulative effect of short-term damage will aggravate the fatigue life loss of the drivetrain and increase the failure risk of the component. The electromagnetic torque generated by the three-phase symmetrical short-circuit is the most violent and has the maximum effect on the fatigue life of the drivetrain. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology. A novel protection scheme for two-phase faults in power distribution system with neutral ungrounded is presented. The feasibility of tripping single-phase circuit when a phase-tophase or two-phase-to-ground fault occurs is studied with induction motor loads as the focus. The paper at first analyses the effect of a induction motor runs with one phase cut off theoretically. And then a real power distribution system model with 110kV, 35kV and 6kV voltage levels is built in PSCAD/EMTDC. Three feasibility criteria are proposed for motors in continuous operation with single-phase opened. At last, the novel protection scheme is testified in simulation with protection time and reclosing time as variables respectively. The results verify that the scheme is feasible and power supply reliability is improved.

If the microgrid is stroke by lightning, the lightning overvoltage which transferred though distribution transformer has great influence on the safety of the microgrid. The models of microgrid and high-frequency transformers are established based on the electromagnetic transient calculation program PSCAD/EMTDC. The transferred overvoltage with different lightning strike position in microgrid is researched in this paper. The effect of surge arresters on restricting overvoltage is also analyzed. The simulation results show that surge arresters must be installed at both sides of transformer due to the high overvoltage when the transformer has no load. If the transformer is connected with cables, the overvoltage will be reduced. The longer the cable is, the lower the overvoltage is. The types of loads have a little influence on the overvoltage.

Flexible low-frequency AC transmission technology combines the advantages of 50 Hz AC transmission and DC transmission, and has good application scenarios. High voltage and large capacity AC/AC converters are the core equipment of flexible low-frequency AC transmission systems. The proposal of half-wave commutated modular multilevel converters effectively reduces the number of components and improves system economy. In view of this, this paper proposes an overvoltage suppression strategy for active control of inductor current, which effectively reduces the overvoltage level during commutation. The article first introduces the sparse topology and mathematical model of the half-wave commutated modular multilevel converters. Secondly, the mechanism of overvoltage generation is analyzed. Then, overvoltage suppression strategies are proposed. Finally, a PSCAD simulation model is built to verify the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method through simulation. © 2024 IEEE.

In the deregulated retail market, consumers should have more right of choice for paying for their energy demand. This paper focuses on the design of electricity price package mechanism in retail market considering the demand elasticity of consumers. An optimal price package mechanism is proposed to incentivize consumers for peak-clipping/valley-filling. Consumers are able to choose the appropriate one from a set of price packages, each of which consists of specific time-of-use energy price and maximum-demand price. A numerical case study has shown the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed mechanism. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Instantaneous energy balancing plays an important role in power electronics conversion. The unbalance of electromagnetic energy not only debases the system performance but also decreases the reliability and efficiency of the conversion. In this paper, instantaneous energy balancing problems in three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) converters are classified and discussed. Typical examples and their usual solutions of each kind of problems are expounded and compared. In the end of this paper, limitations and disadvantages of traditional methods are analyzed, and electromagnetic field method is summarized as the new trend to analyze electromagnetic energy transmission and exchange. The method using electromagnetic field theory is emphasized to be the better approach to solve the aforementioned energy balancing problems.

This paper presents a new practical backup power supply connection scheme for Distribution Line Non-Communication Protection (DNCP). simulation tests have been conducted using the Alternate Transient Program (ATP) with respect to a typical single circuit breaker multi-section system. The results prove that the new scheme is able to not only recover the power supply of loads on healthy lines automatically, but also create disturbances in favor of Accelerated Over Current (AOC) criterion. Aiming at the failure of Directional Under Voltage (DUV) criterion derived from high voltage and large capacity induction motor load, a novel criterion using the increment of reactive power is proposed. © 2009 IEEE.

The cable and transformer are important distribution equipment in Microgrid. Due to the low insulation level, the insulation of them is easily damaged by lightning. The models of high-frequency transformer and the calculation model of induced lightning with transmission line based on electromagnetic transient calculation software PSCAD / EMTDC are designed in this paper. The lightning protection of cables and transformer in Microgrid, the transferred overvoltage of transformer and the effect of the length of cables and the load types to overvoltage level are researched. The conclusion shows that the induced overvoltage and transferred overvoltage could be reduced efficiently after installing surge arrester at the cables and transformer, but the direct lightning overvoltage is not reduced in the safety range; The longer the cables, the lower the overvoltage is; The inductively load can reduce the overvoltage level slightly while the capacitive and resistance loads has no influence.
