Modular multilevel converter (MMC) is a newly emerging multilevel topology for high power applications in recent years. The voltage fluctuation problem of a new MMC topology is studied in this paper. In order to suppress the voltage fluctuation of the floating capacitors, a control method is proposed by injecting high frequency zero-sequence voltage and phase-to-phase circulating currents. It can be used to drive an induction motor with pump/blower-like load at low speed and improve the performance significantly. A low power three-phase five-level prototype is built up to validate this method.

Achieving an accurate random process model for PV power using cheap data: Leveraging the SDE and public weather reports

The stochastic differential equation (SDE)-based random process models of volatile renewable energy sources (RESs) jointly capture the evolving probability distribution and temporal correlation in continuous time. It has enabled recent studies to remarkably improve the performance of power system dynamic uncertainty quantification and optimization. However, considering the non-homogeneous random process nature of PV, there still remains a challenging question: how can a realistic and accurate SDE model for PV power be obtained that reflects its weather-dependent uncertainty in online operation, especially when high-resolution numerical weather prediction (NWP) is unavailable for many distributed plants? To fill this gap, this article finds that an accurate SDE model for PV power can be constructed by only using the cheap data from low-resolution public weather reports. Specifically, an hourly parameterized Jacobi diffusion process is constructed to recreate the temporal patterns of PV volatility during a day. Its parameters are mapped from the public weather report using an ensemble of extreme learning machines (ELMs) to reflect the varying weather conditions. The SDE model jointly captures intraday and intrahour volatility. Statistical examination based on real-world data collected in Macau shows the proposed approach outperforms a selection of state-of-the-art deep learning-based time-series forecast methods. Novel active damping control scheme for a three-phase active rectifier with LCL-filter

A novel active damping control scheme is developed to eliminate stability problems arisen in the current control of a three-phase voltage source active rectifier (VSR) with LCL-filter. A converter side inductance voltage feedback loop is introduced in the traditional voltage oriented control to stabilize VSR. A simplified discrete model including the current control loop and LCL-filter is established with one sample delay, considering time delays induced by S/H (sampling and holding), processing and modulation. The amplification coefficient of the converter side inductance voltage feedback loop is tuned up to change the unstable poles of LCL-filter. Parameter estimate methods are used to remove unnecessary sensors. simulation and experiment of VSR with LCL-filter demonstrate the proposed active damping control scheme and the stability analyses.

Under the situations of energy crisis around the world, Energy Internet has become the focus of international academic and industrial areas. In this paper, comprehensive reviews and prospects were made based on the background and current research status of Energy Internet. Moreover, the core concept, basic structure, and operation mode of Energy Internet were introduced and discussed. Finally, constructive solutions to the current problems were proposed with the demonstration project of Energy Internet that is the Beijing New Aerotropolis, which draws the future of the Energy Internet.

Along with the power fluctuation and other problems caused by large-scale grid connection of renewable energy, electrochemical energy storage has been widely concerned by researchers. Firstly, the technical characteristics and application scenarios of important electrochemical energy storage are summarized in this paper. Then the analysis focus on the evaluation indexes of the economic and social benefits of electrochemical energy storage on the generation side, grid side and user side. Finally, in order to adapt to the landing of carbon peaking and carbon neutral targets, and combined with the implementation of time-sharing tariffs, energy storage planning problems that need further in-depth research are proposed in view of the shortcomings in existing energy storage planning studies, which are of great significance for improving the adaptability of subsequent energy storage planning studies.

A Novel Triple Capacitor Multi-Level Submodule Mmc Topology with Fault Current Clearing Capability

In the high voltage direct current system based on modular multilevel converter (MMC-HVDC), the half-bridge submodule (HBSM) has become the preferred submodule for significant projects due to its convenient control and low cost. However, the DC shortcircuit protection performance of MMC-HVDC will seriously restrict its development in areas such as overhead lines, high voltage, and large capacity. This article proposes a triple capacitor multi-level submodule (TCMSM) based on a modular multilevel converter with DC fault-blocking capability. It utilizes at least one-third of the module capacitance in the bridge arm to reverse, suppress the DC fault current and turn off the diode. At the same time, the unidirectional conductivity of the diode can also prevent arc reignition at the fault point. The article also conducted in-depth research on the DC short-circuit fault elimination mechanism of this topology, and compared its performance with other topologies. Through analysis, it can be concluded that TCMSM reduces the initial investment and operating costs by reducing the number of devices inside the module while possessing the fault current blocking ability. Finally, MATlab/Simulink was used to simulate and verify the proposed new topology, and its performance was analyzed. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

In the annular power distribution system, short-circuit fault of bus-bars will do fatal harm to aircraft, and it is necessary to protect the ring-net bus-bars. Protecting bus-bars has to meet the requirements that protection devices do not refuse to operate and backup protection devices do not act incorrectly. This paper builds a model about the annular power distribution system and stimulates the fault system based on MATlab. According to the fault features, directional blocking pilot protection is put forward. The results prove that the new method can achieve automatic isolation of the bus-bar at fault, ensures the safety of aircraft power distribution system, and it is of great importance to improve the reliability of aircraft power distributing.

With the rapid development of Energy Internet, Energy Internet demonstration park has become the focus of international academy and industry. In this paper, main characteristics and objectives of Energy Internet demonstration park are analyzed and the architecture of Energy Internet demonstration park composed of the physical layer, information layer, and operation layer has been proposed. Moreover, both the old and new value of multi-energy complementary is summarized and discussed. Finally, numerical analysis of the demonstration Park is used to explore the value innovation mentioned above.

The paper proposes faulted feeder selector in power distribution system with neutral non-effectively grounded. At first, the paper presents basic principle of single-phase-to-ground fault feeder selection based on traveling waves, which compares amplitude and polarity of the initial current traveling waves in all feeders. Then the implementation scheme, including hardware design and software flowchart is presented. At last field application of faulted feeder selector is introduced. The field operation results validated the correctness of faulted feeder selector based on transient traveling wave.

Wind-photovoltaic-energy storage (ES) hybrid generating system has numerous reactive power sources. It is crucially important for coordinated control of these reactive power sources. According to the test results, there are unbalanced control problem in subsystem voltage of the hybrid generating system. The problem caused reactive power circulation and loop current. A subsystem voltage balance optimisation strategy is proposed to solve the problem. The case study shows the efficiency of the proposed strategies.
