Rule Extraction in Transient Stability Study Using Linear Decision Trees

Traditional operation rules depend on human experience, which are relatively fixed and difficult to fulfill the new demand of the modern power grid. In order to formulate suitable and quickly refreshed operation rules, a method of linear decision tree based on support samples is proposed for rule extraction in this paper. The operation rules extracted by this method have advantages of refinement and intelligence, which helps the dispatching center meet the requirement of smart grid construction.

power grid and communication network, which depends on each other to provide proper functionality, are becoming more and more coupled together. Failure of a fraction of nodes in communication networks may lead to a failure even a cascade of failures in power grid. Wide area protection is highly dependent on communication. The failure of communication in some part of wide area protection system will affect the realization of the function to prevent cascading outages and result in serious consequences. Based on Manchester, OPA and hidden failure cascading failure models and considered the feature of relay protection, an improved cascading failure model is established. Then it is used to analyze the dynamic process of communication fails in wide area protection system and IEEE 30 bus system is employed to demonstrate the efficiency of the proposed method. Results show that communication failure in protection system will accelerate the cascading outages of power grid. Effective solutions to reduce the communication risk are discussed. The work of this paper is available for reference to analyze the process of cascading outages and design protection system preventing cascading outages. © 2011 IEEE.

Aimed at power system large-scale blackouts, the paper firstly analyzes the existing problems of current protective relaying and emergency control in power grid. A novel system protection based on local information, protecting both the equipment and power system secure is then proposed, which scheme consists of: identification of fault flow transferring identification, adaptive overload protection and active load shedding strategy. The processes and system structure are introduced, and the following research points are also discussed in this paper. © 2011 IEEE.

Travelling-wave starting element is an integral part of the ultra high-speed protection. Existing design method depends on engineering experience, low accuracy in travelling-wave signal recognition, easy to trip frequently or refuse to trip. To solve these problems, through mass of starting signal simulation and analysis under different fault conditions, this paper focuses on the travelling-wave starting element and figures out the travelling-wave identification method. This paper summarizes the frequency and voltage characteristics of travelling-wave head, puts forward a new method in real-time travelling-wave fault identification. In addition, the analysis course included in this paper is a useful attempt that can be used in similar fault travelling-wave analysis. © 2011 IEEE.

With high speed data sampling technology development, fault generated high-frequency signals can be got, in which fault generated traveling waves reflects fault location, fault type and faulted equipment so on from different ways of traditional power-frequency information. Fault generated traveling waves may help to improve protection relaying. The paper will review fault generated traveling waves and its physical base at first. Then two cases will be presented to exemplify the advantage of traveling waves based protection relaying. One is that fault generated traveling waves with the speed of light can be used to protect UHV long transmission lines independent of capacitive charging current. The other is traveling wave will be applied to detect single-phase-to-ground fault in power distribution system with neutral non-effectively grounded. At last the paper will conclude with implementation of traveling wave based protection relaying. © 2011 IEEE.

Design of IEC 61970 based information exchange model for coordinated automatic voltage control among multi control centers

Standardization is the development tendency of information exchange among control centers. Based on the standard in IEC 61970, an information exchange model suitable for coordinated automatic voltage control (CAVC) among multi control centers is proposed. Firstly, the contents of information flow of CAVC is analyzed and the definition of coordinated control model for information exchange is given;then the common information model is extended and a standardized information model for CAVC is designed;and then based on component interface specification, a standardized information exchange interface for CAVC is designed and its architecture for information exchange as well as its information exchange procedure are given. The presented information exchange model possesses wide application prospect in the implementation of information exchange among multi CAVC control centers for future smart grids.

A substation three-phase nonlinear state estimation method based on zero impedance branches is presented in order to eliminate topology and analogy errors at substation level and accordingly enhance the control center state estimation reliability and accuracy. Measurements from different apparatus are utilized in substation, such as remote terminal unit (RTU) and phasor measurement unit (PMU) three-phase data. A breaker-oriented nonlinear three-phase state estimation model is established on Kirchoff's current law (KCL) , in which analog bad data and topology bad error identification can be decoupled, realizing real-time three-phase unbalanced degree monitoring at substation level. It is shown that this method is very fast and easy for implementation and can provide high measurement redundancy and reliable results. The test results show that the proposed approach is very effective. © 2011 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

简介了印度电网在2012年7月30日和7月31日发生的两起大停电事故。两起事故均起源于同一回输电线路距离保护Ⅲ段因过负荷保护动作跳闸，并导致其他设备继电保护的不合理动作而引发连锁跳闸，造成大面积停电。印度大停电事故暴露了现有电力系统的脆弱性，尤其是继电保护在过负荷和系统振荡情况下的动作缺陷。基于对停电事故中继电保护行为的分析，提出了满足现代电网需求的继电保护三大功能：面向系统安全的系统保护功能、预防性保护功能和快速切除故障设备功能。

The implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on two independent relays has disadvantages like information shareless,complex connection and lack of economic. This paper researched the implementation of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on one relay - the integrated protection platform. Hardware structure of the integrated protection platform is described, and software flow of non-communication protection of double circuit line systems which implemented on the integrated protection platform is also described. Large number of RTDS experiments proved that, according to various asymmetrical fault and symmetrical fault, this protection scheme has reliable and sensitive action performance. It is proved that the implement non-communication protection of double circuit line systems based on the intergrated protection platform is feasible. © 2011 IEEE.
