state estimation based branch parameter estimation method for power grid

Performance of a power system security early warning and control system depends on accuracy of power grid parameter to a great extent. It is important to develop a practical branch parameter estimation method. From the results of expanded state estimation application, which is a representative parameter estimation method proposed before, it often happened that the parameters could not be estimated or estimated imprecisely. Focusing on IEEE 9 and a real-life area power grid in China, deep research on expanded state estimation method is carried out. As a result, these numerical instability and local optimization problems existing in the method were found here. A novel parameter estimation method based on Tabu search strategy is proposed to overcome these problems existing in the expanded state estimation method. Its good behavior in numerical stability and global optimization is verified by numerical tests on IEEE 9 and the real-life area power grid in China.

In order to reduce the randomness and fluctuation of wind power, numerical weather prediction is usually used to forecast power generation. Due to the redundancy of numerical weather prediction factors, dimensionality reduction is carried out to improve the effectiveness of data processing and reduce the complexity of algorithm. In this paper, the multicollinearity diagnosis is carried out to show the existence of multicollinearity among numerical weather prediction variables. The ridge regression method is adopted to screen variables, so as to reduce the dimension of numerical weather prediction data, which are trained later by back propagation neural network or convolutional neural network to fit corresponding power data. In comparison with results using training data without preprocessing, dimensionality reduction can improve predicting effect in most cases and reduce the error caused by improper selection of neural network. © 2022 IEEE.

The paper analyses the existed protection of microgrid. And in order to meet the requirements of microgrid protection, a novel protection is presented in this paper. The protection based on local information without the need of communication, uses current traveling waves to identify faulted feeder, and the bus bar voltages to determine a event caused by fault or switch operation. In the protection scheme, current traveling waves are measured by current transducers in N line and phase lines, and wavelet multi-resolution analysis is used to decompose traveling wave signals. The initial traveling waves are compared in magnitude and polarity with each other to determine the faulted feeder. The protection is independent of microgrid operation connected with the main power grid or in island.

A two-level distributed state estimation method for substation-dispatch center is proposed. After zero impedance three-phase state estimation based on KCL has been applied in substation, up load ripe data are treated in dispatch center level and the single-phase state estimation for all grid implemented. The detailed discussions about the architecture, algorithm, ripe data transmission, time setting and period selection, transmission protocol and transition scheme for the method are given. The results of calculation example show that this method is in favor of simultaneously identifying three-phase bad data and topology error, reducing communication burden, and increasing the reliability of the dispatch center state estimation for all grid. © 2012 state Grid Electric power Research Institute Press.

For PD pattern recognition, six kinds of typical cable fault models are made and tested. Characteristics are calculated from test data. Multiple statistical characteristics of PD distribution map are calculated and pattern vectors are formed. Artificial neural network is trained for recognition. Through the selection and adjustment of characteristics and network parameters, recognition effect with satisfactory result is obtained. © 2014 WIT Press.

Battery energy storage system (BESS) is one of the important solutions to improve the accommodation of large-scale grid connected photovoltaic (PV) generation and increase its operation economy. However, the strong intra-day volatility and severe curtailment of PV power sets a high demand of BESS charge-rate that is a key factor in operation models but ignored in current planning researches. This paper proposes a BESS capacity configuration model for PV generation systems which takes BESS's ability to (dis)charge exceeds its rated power into account. The best charge-rate and power & energy capacity of BESS are optimized by particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. Through an analysis of the annual output statistics of PV power station in the northwest of China, the results show that when considering the high charge-rate of BESS, the optimal BESS capacity configuration rises and comprehensive income of the PV-BESS system will increase. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

A chronic drinking water shortage is one of the most important issues in the developing countries, and drinking water from dirty water sources causes serious damage to inhabitants health in some remote areas. The solar distillation remains the most favorable process for the supplying of water to small communities. Base on the traditional solar still, an improved hybrid photovoltaic/thermal (PVT) desalination system is presented. The PV modules that are combined with thermal units, constitute the PVT systems which has longer operating time and higher average fresh water production. This paper introduces the DC/DC converter applied in this type of systems, including its structure and control strategy which is suitable for PV array and driving supportive heater. The experimental results for the converter and the whole system are showed and analyzed.

A novel direct power control (DPC) strategy for three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) pulse-width-modulation (PWM) rectifier, based on fixed synthesizing vectors, is proposed in this paper. The strategy breaks through the restrictions of vector switching with a simple switching table, improves the excellent dynamic performance of DPC, avoids the neutral-point voltage unbalance and the excessive voltage jumps in phase and line-to-line voltages of the rectifier, and guarantees the proper minimum pulse width and switching intervals between switches in different phases simultaneously. Experimental results verify the validity and feasibility of the proposed scheme.

A large-scale reactive power optimization method based on gaussian penalty function with discrete control variables

Reactive power optimization with discrete control variables can be formulated as a mixed-integer nonlinear programming problem, which is a typical NP-hard problem in mathematics. This paper proposed a Gaussian penalty function based approach to handle discrete variables, in which the discrete variables were relaxed to continuous variables. The properties of the optimization model with Gaussian penalty function, as well as how it could be affected by parameters, were discussed. Then a practical algorithm combining nonlinear interior point method and a heuristic parameters tuning strategy was developed to solve the optimization problem. Finally, numerical experiments were taken on different systems, including IEEE standard systems and several real power systems with varying scales, to verify the robustness and practicability of the proposed method. © 2013 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

There may be complex interaction between the converter control systems of wind power and MMC-HVDC, which will lead to sub-/super-synchronous oscillation and threaten the safe and stable operation of the system. The relevant events have been reported in Guangdong Nan'ao, Shanghai Nanhui and Zhangbei projects. Rudong offshore wind power project is the first offshore wind power transmission system in China, and it is still under construction. Therefore, it is of great significance to carry out the research on the risk analysis and suppression measures of sub-synchronous oscillation in Rudong wind power MMC-HVDC system. First, the time-domain simulation model of Rudong wind power MMC-HVDC system is built in the PSCAD/EMTDC simulation model. Then, the effects of the number of wind turbine generators, wind power output and the parameters of MMC-HVDC controller on the sub-/supersynchronous oscillation characteristics of the system are further analyzed. Finally, the suppression measures based on supplementary frequency dependent gain control are proposed, the application position of the controller is discussed, and the parameter optimization method of the controller is given. The research content provides a certain guiding significance for the operation and control of Rudong wind power MMC-HVDC. © 2021 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.
