A fast electric field integral in time domain using the uneven discretization and the implicit scheme is proposed to calculate the switching electromagnetic transient at a substation. The switching transient currents and the resultant radiated electromagnetic field are calculated. The propose d approach has the strength to model the bus system at a substation with a more complicated and realistic configuration that is difficult to simulate using the circuit-based method, because all the electromagnetic couplings within the bus system are included globally. The proposed method might be one of good candidates to predicate the EMI level at a substation. © 2012 IEEE.

Forward electricity market has emerged as a pivotal section for the electricity transaction to keep stakeholders away from price risk and electricity shortage. But the forward contract of conventional unit partially limits the unit output before operation, leading to the curtailed generation share of renewable energy source (RES). Modeling and assessing this impact is of great significance for system planning and market supervision. The central thesis of this paper is to find out the impact of forward market on RES curtailment. A probabilistic evaluation model for RES accommodation is proposed, taking the curtailment rate as a main evaluation index. We mainly research financial contract and physical contract, modeling the impact of them on thermal unit minimum load capacity and power load in evaluation model. The simulation is conducted in a simplified system, which reveals the change of RES curtailment with renege penalty, contract price and execution generation curve. © 2020 The Authors, published by EDP Sciences.

Purpose - A fast algorithm is proposed to calculate the lightning electromagnetic field over a perfectly conducting earth surface. Design/methodology/approach - The channel base current is approximated by a number of sub-domain quadratic functions using the proposed adaptive sampling technique, and the derivative and integral of the channel base current with respect to time can be analytically expressed. With the help of these approximations, the ideal electromagnetic field of the lightning channel can be evaluated along the lightning channel with respect to the height. Findings - The computational time can be greatly reduced using the proposed approach to evaluate the electromagnetic field of a lightning channel in the time domain. Originality/value - The adaptive sampling technique is a general-purposed approach, which can be potentially used in other applications to fit a function with the minimal number of intervals. © Emerald Group Publishing Limited.

Because the fault characteristics is not obvious, the high resistance grounding fault feeder selection in a resonant grounding system has always been a hot and difficult problem in the field of power system protection. To solve this problem, the expressions of the transient zero sequence current of each feeder under over-damping and under-damping conditions are obtained based on the transient equivalent circuit of high resistance grounding fault in a resonant grounding system. The correlation degree of the transient zero sequence current between any two feeders is analysed by using the correlation coefficient method, so as to realize the fault feeder selection for high resistance grounding fault. simulation results of PSCAD software show that this method is not affected by transition resistance, initial phase angle of fault, and has high accuracy and reliability. © 2019 Institution of Engineering and Technology. Shielding failure of lightning is the key problem for safe operation of transmission lines. Using Electro-geometry Method to simulate the process of shielding failure, large currents hit a conducting wire hardly, however actually they did sometimes. So, Leader Progression Method is used to analyze the relationship between amplitude of lightning current and other parameters, such as wires position, ground tilt angle and so on. © 2010 University of Cagliari.

The ultra-short-term prediction of photovoltaic power system is of great significance to the safe operation of power system. However, the daily and annual periodicity of solar radiation brings strong non-stationary to the photovoltaic power series, which makes it difficult to predict the photovoltaic power series. In order to overcome the problem that the detailed clear sky model relies on a large number of plant parameters, this paper proposes a prediction algorithm based on a modified clear sky model. Firstly, historical data and geographical location of a certain site are utilized to build a modified clear sky model, then the theoretical clear sky power curve fitted by the modified clear sky model are divided by the actual historical power output to get a stabilized time series, finally the method of "online update" is adopted to forecast PV plant power output in the ultra-short-term time horizon (0-4 h). The test results of a photovoltaic power station in Ningxia show that the proposed model can reduce the prediction error of the 4th hour to about 3%.

Paralleling SiC MOSFETs is a popular way to increase the current capacity. However, due to asymmetric layout, device parameter mismatch and other factors, imbalanced switching or dynamic current is observed among the paralleled switches in multi-device paralleling application which results in unequal switching loss, challenging the security and reliability of the system. In this paper, a common-mode choke in the gate loop is proposed and analyzed to suppress the imbalanced switching current induced by asymmetric layout in a half-bridge configuration with a Kelvin-source connection. The mechanism of the proposed method is comprehensively investigated to show that though the common-mode choke is placed in the gate loop, it can also mitigate the imbalanced current caused by asymmetric power loop. And it also shows that only the leakage inductance of the choke is seen in the gate loop and thus the switching speed is not expected to be influenced. The proposed method can be easily extended to multi-device paralleling application and the switching transients is hardly influenced by the common-mode choke. simulation and experimental results are presented to verify the proposed method.

The beat frequency characteristic of the recovery voltage of fault phase in the case of single-phase grounding transient fault happening to line with the shunt reactors is analyzed. Besides, the paper analyzes the reason of no beat frequency phenomenon of transient fault happening to line without shunt reactor. The AC power networks with metallic grounding fault and arc grounding fault are analyzed by simulation. The recovery voltage of single-phase grounding fault in AC/DC hybrid power grid is studied by PSCAD. The new problems of the adaptive re-closure in AC-DC hybrid power system are discussed. Then the follow-up ideas to solve several existing problems are also presented. © 2019 IEEE.

Gas-to-liquid (GTL) transformer oil has been on trial in converter transformers. However, its influence on the space charge characteristic is not clear. This work aims at exploring space charge characteristics of GTL oil at different temperatures as well as comparing with commercial naphthenic oil (KI50X). Space charge distribution during the polarization and the dissipation process in the GTL oil-impregnated paper at different temperature was measured by the pulse electroacoustic method (PEA), which were contrasted with those of the KI50X oil-impregnated paper. Results illustrated that high temperature accelerated the injection and migration of charge carriers in the oil-impregnated paper. And the polarity of the accumulated charge in the vicinity of anode changed from positive to negative with the increase of temperature. It was perceived that oil-paper conductivity and carrier mobility grew with the increase of temperature, resulting in the easier migration of injected charge to another electrode. Furthermore, the space charge dissipation rate in the GTL oil-impregnated paper is lower than that in the naphthenic oil-impregnated paper at the same temperature. Thus, a longer time interval of tests or switch operation in the factory test and operation process may need if GTL oil is used rather than naphthenic oil. © 2020 IEEE.

Dielectric barrier discharge excitated by unipolar pulsed power is a promising approach for producing non-thermal plasma at atmospheric pressure. A magnetic compression solid-state pulse power generator is used to produce dielectric barrier discharge (DBD). The generator is capable of providing repetitive pulses with the voltage of up to 30 kV and duration of 70 ns at a 300 resistive load. This paper illustrates electrical characteristic and luminous emissions of DBD excitated by repetitive unipolar nanosecond-pulses in atmospheric air. Different from common DBD excitated by high-voltage AC sources, discharge current of DBD in the experimental investigation can be on an order of tens of amperes. When the DBD is created using two liquid electrodes, the luminous emissions from the obverse and flank sides of liquid electrodes show that no filament is observed and the discharge is homogeneous and diffuse in the whole discharge regime. © 2010 IEEE.
