With the increase of wind power penetration,the characteristics of the wind farm have brought a significant impact on the security of power *** is urgent to study how to reduce the risk of cascading failures while improving the environmental *** this paper,a cascading failure model containing wind farm is proposed,which considers wind power characteristics,such as the structure of wind farm,the randomness of power of wind farm,the virtual inertia control of wind turbine,and the disconnection response of wind turbine after short-circuit *** order to identify the key factors of blackout,decision tree is used to analyze results generated from this blackout *** control is adopted to decrease the probability or effect of critical attributes that can be found in decision *** blackout risk of IEEE 30 test system integrated with wind farm is *** key factors,such as disconnection of wind turbines from the grid and certain transmission lines,are identified by decision ***,the effectiveness of the virtual inertial control of wind turbine,reactive power compensation and line construction is verified by simulation.

Effects of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics in oil-impregnated pressboard insulation under combined AC–DC voltage

Due to the complexity of the valve side winding voltage of the converter transformer, the insulation characteristics of the oil-impregnated pressboard(OIP) of the converter transformer are different from those of the traditional AC transformer. The study on effect of temperature on the creeping discharge characteristics of OIP under combined AC–DC voltage is seriously inadequate. Therefore, this paper investigates the characteristics of OIP creepage discharge under combined AC–DC voltage and discusses the influence of temperature on creepage discharge characteristics under different temperatures from 70 °C to 110 °C. The experimental results show that the partial discharge inception voltage and flashover voltage decrease with increasing temperature. The times of low amplitude discharge(LAD) decrease and amplitude of LAD increases. Simultaneously, the times of high amplitude discharge(HAD) gradually increase at each stage of creepage discharge with higher temperature. The analysis indicates that the charge carriers easily accumulate and quickly migrate directional movement along the electric field ahead of discharging. The residual charge carriers are more easily dissipated after *** ‘hump’ region of LAD moves to the direction of higher discharge magnitude. The interval time between two continuous discharges is shortened obviously. The concentration of HAD accelerates the development of OIP insulation creepage discharge. The temperature had an accelerating effect on the development of discharge in the OIP under applying voltage.

Electro-Geometric Model (EGM) has been applied widely all over the world to evaluate the lightning shielding failure of transmission line. But with the increase of operation voltage to 1000 kV and tower height to more than 100 meters, some shortcomings of the traditional EGM model were found by many researchers. Leader Progression Model (LPM) was proposed to solve these problems. But some fundamental works, such as when the upward leader initiates and how it propagates, is still indistinct. An experiment was designed and implemented in this paper to simulate the electric field circumstance near the test transmission line while the lightning downward leader approached. The upward leader from the test transmission line was clearly observed. The inception voltage and characteristics was analyzed. The streamer and leader initiated from the ground wire and conductor bundle were compared. The experiment results show that the leader initiating from the ground wire is more active in the inception stage. The velocity of the upward leader acquired is about 1.2-3.0 cm/μs. © 2011 IEEE.

This paper investigates a consensus-based nodal pricing mechanism for incenting automated demand response in the deregulated market environment. These small-scale customers are autonomously managed by automated demand response (DR) controllers, which are capable of scheduling user's load devices to follow a day-ahead 24h price signal from electricity distribution companies (EDC). First, an alternating current optimal power flow (ACOPF) on the distribution network is formulated considering the participation of automated DR. Then, a consensusbased approach is exploited to adjust the nodal price and DR profile for each customer using primal-dual decomposition. The proposed mechanism is compared with a day-ahead pricing (DAP) program on a test distribution network and numerical results have shown promising performance in supporting the congestion management on the distribution grid. © 2020 IEEE.

Due to the three-phase-to-three-leg direct matrix converter (3 × 3 MC) cannot be achieved with unbalanced load, then the three-phase-to-four-leg direct matrix converter (3 × 4 MC) is introduced. A novel modulation strategy is proposed to ensure the capability of 3 × 4 MC with arbitrary loads, which is development by using fixed voltage vectors and one zero vector. Considering the harm of common-mode voltage (CMV), the switch configurations of the proposed modulation strategy are improved. Selecting the reasonable zero vectors by the subsection partition, which is capable of reducing the CMV to half of the input source voltage produced by the zero vectors, and the ability of 3 × 4 MC with arbitrary load is also realized. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is verified by the accompanying simulation results. © 2017 IEEE.

The signal of travelling wave has the merit of immunity to system oscillation, transition resistance, CT saturation and the neutral point operation modes;it has been widely applied in field of fault detection and protection. Especially in isolated neutral grounded wind farm distribution network, the algorithm using multiple-bay travelling wave's information can exclusively achieve the fast fault feeder selection and tripping. However, travelling wave sampling frequency tends to reach 500 to 1000 times of that in algorithms with power frequency signal. The direct of travelling wave sampling data sharing in process bus would produce the communication block, and weaken the security of whole substation automation. To solve this problem, the performance of communication in process bus is theoretically analyzed and simulated in this paper, the communication requirement of travelling waves is quantified, and then a feasible scheme is proposed with data pre-processing and fault characteristic abstraction moving forward into the merging unit. simulations prove its validity. The work in paper can promote the wide application of travelling waves in substation based on IEC61850.

Attention to efficient and cost-effective utilize of energy has become a common view in the energy sector. A variety of microgrid energy management systems are developed and installed to achieve the goal. However, the performance of the microgrid energy management system depends on some factors, such as forecast uncertainty, measurement error, and so forth. Among them, a series of handling technologies for the forecast uncertainty are the focus in this paper. It includes accuracy improvement of prediction program based on time series method, operation strategy adoption, real-time control scheme for the energy storage equipment, and proposes a robust rule to against the extreme situation as well. This not only achieves effective energy management, but also helps to avoid operation cost increasing induced by the transaction bias assessment through the improvement of energy scheduling accuracy. The effectiveness and validity of these means is verified in the constructed campus microgrids at Chonnam National University. © 2020 IEEE.

Five-level active neutral-point-clamped (ANPC) converter is a newly emerging topology which can overcome the drawbacks of traditional neutral-point clamped (NPC) converters and flying-capacitor (FC) converters. Its dc-link is subdivided into two equal parts and the main problem is the neutral-point (NP) potential balancing. In this paper, a NP potential balancing algorithm based on zero-sequence voltage injection is presented. By calculating the NP currents of all key zero-sequence voltages, the most appropriate zero-sequence voltage is selected to generate the demanded NP current. Moreover, by further limiting the span of injected zero-sequence voltages, the NP balancing algorithm can make the two IGBTs connected in series operate at fundamental frequency. A three-phase five-level ANPC inverter prototype was built up and experimental results are presented to verify the validity of this algorithm. © 2011 IEEE.

The distribution network detection devices are generally using two kinds of instrument current transformer (ICT), of which one is used to transform the travelling wave and transient signals, while the other is used to transform the power frequency signals. Such scheme is neither necessary nor economical. This paper analyses the influences of sampling resistance, stray capacitance and magnetizing inductance on the frequency characteristic of ICT. Considering that fault zero sequence transient current has big transient component and small power frequency component, an ICT with wide band frequency accuracy has been chosen. Practical experiments have been done. The technical parameters given by the instrument factory are only within 20-20kHz. The characteristics in higher frequency are seldom reported due to the lack of test means. The experiments in this paper is based on the transient tester instrument and current amplifiers developed by our laboratory, which can output wide frequency band current within 20Hz-100kHz up to 50A. Experiment shows that, the predicted results were in good agreement with the measured ones.

High impedance faults (HIFs) are easy to occur in collective feeders in wind farms and may cause the cascading of wind generators tripping. This kind of faults is difficult to be detected by traditional relay or fuse due to the limited fault current values and the situation is worse in wind farms. The mostly adopted HIF detection algorithms are based on the 3rd harmonic characteristic of the fault zero-sequence currents, whereas these 3rd harmonics are very easy to be polluted by wind power back-to-back converters. To solve this problem, the typical HIF arc flash based on Mayr's arc model is first built, and the typical fault waveforms of HIF in wind farm are presented. Then the characteristics of high impedance faults are analysed to distinguish the occurrence of HIF from other harmonic interference. After that, the performance of the traditional harmonic based HIF detection algorithm is discussed, and a novel detection algorithm is presented to prevent harmonic interference influence in wind farms.
