Performance-Aware control of Modular Batteries For Fast Frequency Response

Modular batteries can be aggregated to deliver frequency regulation services for power grids. Although utilizing the idle capacity of battery modules is financially attractive, it remains challenging to consider the heterogeneous module-level characteristics such as dynamic operational efficiencies and battery degradation. In addition, real-time decision making within seconds is required to enable fast frequency response. In order to address these issues, this paper proposes a performance-aware scheduling approach for battery modules to deliver fast frequency response (FFR) support. In particular, the conduction loss and switching loss of battery packs as well as converters are captured within a mix-integer quadratic constrained program (MIQCP). The cycle-based aging model identifies the aging cost of battery modules during frequent cycling by introducing the aging subgradient calculation and linearization. Case studies based on real-world battery data show that the proposed scheduling approach can effectively reduce power loss cost by nearly 28%-57% and battery aging cost by 4%-15% compared to conventional methods, which can also enhance the SoC balance. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

Discovering Invariance from Variations: Invariant-Specific Bi-Graph Neural Network for Multi-Source Transfer Learning with Application to industrial Soft Sensor

Conventional transfer learning offers a feasible solution to address distribution discrepancy by extracting and transferable knowledge from source domains to the target domain. Integrating information from multiple source domains while mitigating the negative transfer caused by distribution discrepancy poses a significant challenge. Instead of aligning the data distribution among different domains, it is observed that enduring invariance lies in the relation among variables. In this article, an Invariant-Specific Bi-Graph Neural Network (IS-BiGNN) model is proposed to address the aforementioned issue by designing an invariant relation alignment scheme. It is built upon the subsequent observations: 1) Despite discrepancy among multi-domains, we propose a novel concept wherein the invariant intervariable relation is put forth as the invariant characteristic with-in each domain. 2) The mentioned relation can be extracted through the learning of graph representations among the variables. To address the existence of both cross-domain invariant and varying relation among variables, a Bigraph network architecture is designed. The invariant graph network extracts cross-domain transferable relations, whereas the specific graph network captures domain-specific relation among variables. Invariant relation alignment and specific information filtering modules are developed to implement the extraction of invariant relation collaboratively, facilitating knowledge transfer from multiple source domains to the target domain. Furthermore, with theoretical support, the proposed method provides a tighter generalization error bound. The effectiveness of IS-BiGNN is verified by soft sensor as the downstream task on industrial processes. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Analysis of dipole-like ultra high frequency RFID tags close to metallic surfaces

It is a challenge for passive RFID tags to be mounted on the surface of metal because the parameters of tag antennas,such as the impedance matching,the radiation efficiency and the radiation pattern,are seriously affected by the metallic *** paper presents the characteristics of the dipole-like antennas of ultra high frequency(UHF) radio frequency identification(RFID) tags that are placed close to metallic *** finite element method(FEM) and method of moment(MoM) were used to simulate the changes of the antenna parameters near the metallic *** typical dipole-like antennas close to the metallic surface,a closed loop antenna and a loaded meander antenna,were modeled,and the performance was *** was carried out and the results were in good agreement with the simulation,showing that a distance of 0.05λ～0.1λ(λ is the free space wavelength) from the metallic surface could make the dipole-like UHF RFID tag performance be acceptable.

In the era of artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC), conditional multimodal synthesis technologies (e.g., text-to-image) are dynamically reshaping the natural content. Brain signals, serving as potential reflections of how the brain interprets external information, exhibit a distinctive one-to-many correspondence with various external modalities. This correspondence makes brain signals emerge as a promising guiding condition for multimodal synthesis (e.g., image, text, and audio), which is crucial for developing practical brain–computer interface systems and unraveling complex mechanisms underlying human perception. This survey comprehensively examines the emerging field of brain-conditional multimodal synthesis, termed AIGC-brain, to delineate the current landscape and future directions. To begin, related neuroimaging datasets and generative models are introduced as the foundation of AIGC-brain decoding and analysis. Next, we present a comprehensive taxonomy according to AIGC-brain methodologies, followed by task-specific representative work and implementation details to facilitate in-depth comparison and analysis. Quality assessments are then introduced for both qualitative and quantitative evaluation. Finally, this survey explores insights gained, outlining current challenges and prospects of AIGC-brain. As a pioneering survey, this article paves the way for future advances in AIGC-brain research. © 2020 IEEE.

Subspace identification for continuous-time errors-in-variables model from sampled data

Contextual Multi-Armed Bandit-Based Dynamic Cooperative Link Configuration for AUV in UWASNs With Energy Harvesting

This paper investigates the cooperative link configuration problem for Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) in Underwater Acoustic (UWA) sensor networks with Energy Harvesting (EH), which aims to maximize long-term cumulative capacity by jointly optimizing cooperation relay, AUV transmission power, and relay transmission power. Subject to unknown time-varying Channel state Information (CSI), unpredictable stochastic EH, and variable communication topology caused by AUV mobility, the proposed problem is an unknown dynamic combination decision optimization problem. To resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology with unknown time-varying CSI and EH, a novel collaborative contextual multi-armed bandit learning framework is proposed, which allows relay nodes to learn cooperatively and enriches the learning information of relays. Consequently, the proposed learning framework can resist the change of the dynamic UWA communication topology efficiently, thereby achieving the superior link configuration quickly. Besides, a learning-rate adjustment rule for the dynamic UWA communication topology is proposed to adaptively balance the exploration-exploitation, thereby avoiding missing the real superior joint relay-power configuration. Finally, simulation results show the significantly superiority of the proposed scheme. © 2015 IEEE.

Multiscale classification and its application to process monitoring

Multiscale classification has potential advantages for monitoring industrial processes generally driven by events in different time and frequency *** this study, we adopt stationary wavelet transform for multiscale analysis and propose an applicable scale selection method to obtain the most discriminative scale *** using the multiscale features, we construct two classifiers:(1) a supported vector machine(SVM) classifier based on classification distance, and(2) a Bayes classifier based on probability *** the SVM classifier, we use 4-fold cross-validation and grid-search to obtain the optimal *** the Bayes classifier, we introduce dimension reduction techniques including kernel Fisher discriminant analysis(KFDA) and principal component analysis(PCA) to investigate their influence on classification *** tested the classifiers with two simulated benchmark processes:the continuous stirred tank reactor(CSTR) process and the Tennessee Eastman(TE) *** also tested them on a real polypropylene production *** performance comparison among the classifiers in different scales and scale combinations showed that when datasets present typical scale features, the multiscale classifier had higher classification accuracy than conventional single scale *** also found that dimension reduction can generally contribute to a better classification in our tests.

Soft crawling robots have been widely studied and applied because of their excellent environmental adaptability and flexible ***,most existing soft crawling robots typically exhibit a single-motion mode and lack diverse *** by Drosophila larvae,this paper proposes a compact soft crawling robot(weight,13 g;length,165 mm;diameter,35 mm)with multimodal locomotion(forward,turning,rolling,and twisting).Each robot module uses 4 sets of high-power-density shape memory alloy actuators,endowing it with 4 degrees of motion *** analyze the mechanical characteristics of the robot modules through experiments and simulation *** plug-and-play modules can be quickly assembled to meet different motion and task *** soft crawling robot can be remotely operated with an external controller,showcasing multimodal motion on various material *** a narrow maze,the robot demonstrates agile movement and effective maneuvering around *** addition,leveraging the inherent bistable characteristics of the robot modules,we used the robot modules as anchoring units and installed a microcamera on the robot's head for pipeline *** robot completed the inspection in horizontal,vertical,curved,and branched pipelines,adjusted the camera view,and twisted a valve in the pipeline for the first *** research highlights the robot's superior locomotion and application capabilities,providing an innovative strategy for the development of lightweight,compact,and multifunctional soft crawling robots.

A Real-Time Hybrid Testing Method Based on Partial Restart Loading technology

The computational delay is a key problem in real-time hybrid testing (RTHT). The restart loading technique provides the possibility for nonreal-time numerical calculation of RTHT. However, the RTHT based on restart loading technique (RTHT-RLT) requires the experimental substructure to return to the initial state for overall reloading, which requires a significant time cost. To solve this problem, a new RTHT based on partial restart loading technology (RTHT-PRLT) is proposed in this paper. The proposed method carries out partial restart loading in a time-increasing way to reveal the mechanical performance of the experimental substructure accurately and efficiently. First, the RTHT-PRLT is proposed. Furthermore, the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method are verified through numerical simulations and experimental tests on a three-story frame structure, modeled by refined finite elements, with a viscous damper. The results of simulation and experiment show that when the number of restart loading steps of the RTHT-PRLT is 50 steps, the viscous damper obtains the same mechanical state quantities as those in the RTHT-RLT. Meanwhile, the experimental efficiency of RTHT-PRLT is more than 50% higher than that of RTHT-RLT. © 2026 World Scientific Publishing Company.
