For dynamic batch process monitoring, a two-dimensional dynamic modeling framework has recently been formulated, which is based on a two-dimensional autoregressive model and the principal component analysis (PCA) method. Different from traditional dynamic batch process monitoring, the two-dimensional method can monitor both within batch and batch-to-batch dynamic information of the process data. However, this PCA-related method has two main restrictions, which may render poor monitoring performance in practice. First, it is under the assumption that the distribution of the process data is Gaussian. Second, the correlations between different process variables are assumed to be linear with each other. Unfortunately, both of these two assumptions are difficult to satisfy in batch processes. In this paper, support vector data description (SVDD) is incorporated into the two-dimensional modeling framework, which has no Gaussian limitation of the data, and can also model the nonlinear relationship between process variables. For dynamic batch process monitoring, a distance based statistic is proposed. Based on results of a simulation case study, the monitoring performance has been improved. © 2011 IFAC.

The Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) is a major issue for the truck crane designing, due to the large dimension. The conducted disturbance sources of truck crane was measured under stable conditions, the time domain characteristics of possible conducted disturbance sources was analyzed, and typical waveforms were concluded to solve the EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) issue. The electromagnetic disturbance characteristics at different test points under different operation conditions were compared, and the influence of different factors was studied. The amplitude and frequency parameters of the major disturbance sources were compared with the standard immunity test pulses suggested by ISO7637-2. The differences between them indicate that the extant standard might not apply to the test of the truck crane. The presented results could form a basis for the development of a special standard for the EMC test of the truck crane and further relevant EMC research.

Terahertz time-domain spectroscopy have been applied in research of four different varieties of Chinese green tea, the absorption and refractive Terahertz Spectrum of these tea were got in the range of 0.2 to 1.5 THz. Least Squares Support Vector Machines, Naive Bayes and Back Propagation Artificial Neural Network were applied to achieve Multi-class classification of these four kinds of tea, and the classification results of three algorithms were analyzed in detail. The results shows that support vector machine have better classification results in the experiment. This study demonstrated the feasibility of time-domain Terahertz Spectroscopy for the classification of difference kinds of tea. © 2011 IEEE.

Three soft sensor models (RBF, SVM, ICA-SVM) are proposed to infer the Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) of quench water produced from pesticide waste incinerator respectively. An optimization model of COD is further proposed based on the above soft sensor models. Furthermore, chaos genetic algorithm is introduced to solve the optimization model. The procedure is demonstrated and discussed for practical industrial cases, where the mean relative error of the proposed ICA-SVM model is 0.16% for COD prediction, and mean of COD can decrease from 1140 to 393, by 65.53%, with the proposed optimal soft sensing approach.

With the economic developments, high speed railway has been paid many attentions in China and medium- short term planning of Chinese high speed railway network has been formed and most of the railways have been started into operations. In this paper, graph theory and complex network theory are adopted to assess the reliability of Chinese high speed railway network. The topological characteristics and real distances between pairs of stations are discussed to investigate the reliability of Chinese high-speed rail network. Several parameters are presented to investigate the topological characteristics and the reliability and robustness of the network subject to failures. The parameter called unit degree betweenness is proposed to assess the transport capacity of lines connecting with the nodes. The largest degree node-based attacks and the highest betweenness node-based attacks are involved into Chinese high speed railway network to assess the topological reliability and robustness. The results show that the highest betweenness node-based attacks are more effective to destroy the network than the largest degree node-based attacks. Moreover, the cumulative degree distribution and the real mileages of railways between pairs of stations can be fitted by Gauss functions, and the distribution of real shortest distances over all pairs of stations of the network is fitted by a normal distribution function. By the simulations, the critical stations, Guangzhou Station, Zhengzhou Station and Jinan Station for the largest degree node-based attacks, and Wuhan Station, Xuzhou Station and Shijiazhuang Station for the highest betweenness node-based attacks, can be obtained in this paper. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, a neural network(NN) based temperature control scheme is presented for cooling coil of Air Handling Unit(AHU) to overcome the unknown system dynamics and its inherent nonlinearities. First of all, by utilizing the standard thermodynamic formulas, the cooling coil is modeled by a discrete-time uncertain nonlinear system instead of a linear one, in order to accommodate its different behaviors under various cooling loads. Thereafter, a two-layer NN is utilized to approximate the unknown dynamics within the system. The online tuning algorithm of the NN weights is also provided with no offline training needed. Consequently, the identification process of the cooling coil unit is obviated. Theoretical results show the stable tracking performance of the close-loop system, while the effectiveness of this method is demonstrated under simulation environment.

Recently, Gutiérrez-Naranjo and Leporati considered performing basic arithmetic operations on a new class of bioinspired computing devices - spiking neural P systems (for short, SN P systems). However, the binary encoding mechanism used in their research looks like the encoding approach in electronic circuits, instead of the style of spiking neurons (in usual SN P systems, information are encoded as the time interval between spikes). In this work, three SN P systems are constructed as adder, subtracter and multiplier, respectively. In these devices, a number is inputted to the system as the interval of time elapsed between two spikes received by input neuron, the result of a computation is the time between the moments when the output neuron spikes. © 2011 IEEE.

Compared with fossil fuel vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and electric vehicles (EVs) maintain obvious and profound significance for the less city pollutant and operation noise. Moreover, EVs can benefit operation of the power systems via friendly feeding back the energy stored in the EV batteries into the grids when needed. The related research about charging of batteries for EVs has been extensively developed, which is one of the main issues for the application of EVs. This paper focuses on the cooperation between the battery demand and the supply curve problems, when the charging of EV is operated in the swapping way. Firstly, the concept of the swapping battery requirement (SBR) adequacy is presented, and then the corresponding mathematical model is established and the algorithm based on the Monte Carlo method is proposed. In addition, some critical factors which have great influence on the SBR and reserved fully charged battery (RFCB) curves are demonstrated, such as EVs driving cycle, battery capacity, average energy-consuming level and charging time. Simulation results are presented to verify the proposed method.

In wireless sensor networks (WSNs), trap coverage has recently been proposed to tradeoff between the availability of sensor nodes and sensing performance. It offers an efficient framework to tackle the challenge of limited resources in large scale sensor networks. Currently, existing works only studied the theoretical foundation of how to decide the deployment density of sensors to ensure the desired degree of trap coverage. However, the practical issues such as how to efficiently schedule sensor node to guarantee trap coverage under an arbitrary deployment is still left untouched. In this paper, we formally formulate the Minimum Weight Trap Cover Problem and prove it is an NP-hard problem. To solve the problem, we introduce a bounded approximation algorithm, called Trap Cover Optimization (TCO) to schedule the activation of sensors while satisfying specified trap coverage requirement. The performance of MinimumWeight Trap Coverage we find is proved to be at most O(ρ) times of the optimal solution, where ρ is the density of sensor nodes in the region. To evaluate our design, we perform extensive simulations to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm and show that our algorithm achieves at least 14% better energy efficiency than the state-of-the-art solution. © 2011 IEEE.

The comprehensive campaigns were carried out at the urban site of Peking University, Beijing in the summer of 2011. The concentrations of organic aerosol (OA) and its mass spectra were measured by a high resolution time of flight aerosol mass spectrometers (HR-ToF-AMS). The sources of organic aerosol were investigated by combining organic ion fragment matrix with receptor models, positive matrix factorization (PMF). Four factors including low-volatility oxygenated organic aerosol (LV-OOA), semi-volatile organic aerosol (SV-OOA), cooking organic aerosol (COA), and hydrocarbon-like organic aerosol (HOA) were resolved out. A new source apportion method by combining spectra measured by AMS with chemical mass balance (AMS-CMB) was also established in this study. The AMS standard spectra in unit mass to charge ratio (m/z) from different sources were summarized by comparing spectra from lab and field studies. Five standard spectra were finally selected and input into CMB model to explore OA sources in Beijing summer. Good agreements of OA factors from AMS-CMB and AMS-PMF are observed. It is alsofound that concentrations of HOA factor from PMF model are equals to the sum of organic aerosol factors from biomass burning, coal burning and vehicle emissions in CMB model, revealing the advantage of AMSCMB method lie on the capability on primary sources apportion with low contributions (<5%). The final results by from CMB and PMF models show 66% of OA in Beijing summer are from secondary formations, following by cooking emissions (21%), biomass burning (6%), vehicle emissions (5%) and coal combustion(3%).
