Transport networks, such as railway networks and airport networks, are a kind of random network with complex topology. Recently, more and more scholars paid attention to various kinds of transport networks and try to explore their inherent characteristics. Here we study the exponential properties of a recently introduced Bus Transport Networks (BTNs) evolution model with random overlapping clique structure, which gives a possible explanation for the observed exponential distribution of the connectivities of some BTNs of three major cities in China. Applying mean-field theory, we analyze the BTNs model and prove that this model has the character of exponential distribution of the connectivities, and develop a method to predict the growth dynamics of the individual vertices, and use this to calculate analytically the connectivity distribution and the exponents. By comparing mean-field based theoretic results with the statistical data of real BTNs, we observe that, as a whole, both of their data show similar character of exponential distribution of the connectivities, and their exponents have same order of magnitude, which show the availability of the analytical result of this paper.

Kernel-based methods work by embedding the data into a feature space and then searching linear hypothesis among the embedding data points. The performance is mostly affected by which kernel is used. A promising way is to learn the kernel from the data automatically. A general regularized risk functional (RRF) criterion for kernel matrix learning is proposed. Compared with the RRF criterion, general RRF criterion takes into account the geometric distributions of the embedding data points. It is proven that the distance between different geometric distdbutions can be estimated by their centroid distance in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space. Using this criterion for kernel matrix learning leads to a convex quadratically constrained quadratic programming (QCQP) problem. For several commonly used loss functions, their mathematical formulations are given. Experiment results on a collection of benchmark data sets demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper presents the preliminary research in detecting pesticide residues with the newly developed terahertz technique. Experiments were carried out on cyfluthrin n-hexane solutions in the concentration range of 1-20 μg/ml with terahertz time-domain spectroscopy (THz-TDS). We employed four calibration methods for the regression between the absorbance and the concentration of the solutions, i.e., linear regression methods of simple linear regression (SLR), partial least squares (PLS), and nonlinear regression methods of simple least-squares support vector machine (LS-SVM), and the combination of PLS and LS-SVM (PLS-LS-SVM), which utilizes the features extracted by PLS from the original absorbance spectra as the input of LS-SVM. To analyze the antinoise abilities of these models, we collected two data sets of the same series of samples on two different days, i.e., one with higher signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the other with lower SNR. Separate models were built on them. We find that the PLS and PLS-LS-SVM models present much better prediction and antinoise abilities than the SLR and simple LS-SVM models, whereas PLS-LS-SVM outperforms PLS, showing much less dependence on the selection of the number of the features extracted. To further analyze the influence of the selection of the frequency range, we built different PLS-LS-SVM models by varying the frequency ranges between 0.5 and 1.5 THz, and find that the model performance dramatically varies with the selection of different frequency ranges, which may be due to the unevenly distributed SNR and the spectroscopic interaction variations in different frequency ranges. The selection of the whole frequency range of 0.51.5 THz results in relatively low prediction error with either the higher or the lower SNR spectra and will thus be selected for further modeling. Two highly water-soluble amino acids, which derived from β-CDs, i.e., glutamic acid-β-cyclodextrin (GluCD) and ethylene-diamine- β-cyclodextrin (EDCD), were synthesized and were examined for their effect on solubilization of anthracene (ANT), complexation of cadmium (Cd^2+), and elution removal of ANT and Cd^2+ in soil. The results showed that GluCD and EDCD were powerful complexant for ANT and Cd^2+. In the presence of 10 g/L GIuCD and EDCD, the solubilization of ANT increased by 47.04 and 23.85 times compared to the control, respectively. GluCD resulted in approximately 90% complexation of Cd^2+ while 70% complexation was observed for EDCD. Simultaneously, GluCD and EDCD could greatly enhance the elution removal of ANT and Cd^2+ from soil. GluCD resulted in the highest elution efficiency of ANT and Cd^2+. With the addition of 10 g/L GluCD, 53.5% of ANT and 85.6% of Cd^2+ were eluted, respectively. The ANT had a negligible effect on the Cd^2+ removal due to different complexing sites of ANT and Cd^2+, while Cd^2+ enhanced the ANT removal under the addition of GluCD because Cd^2+ neutralized the -COOH group of GIuCD. Adversely, the removal of ANT was decreased with Cd^2+ under the addition of EDCD, this was due to the fact that Cd^2+ enhanced the polarity of EDCD molecule and inhibited the complexation between ANT and EDCD. The study suggested that GluCD could be preferred and be successfully applied to remediation of heavy metals or organic compounds in contaminated soil.

To evaluate railway passenger service quality objectively and precisely, an evaluation index system was established based on analysis of the relevant factors, i.e., security, punctuality, economy, convenience and comfort. Then two evaluation approaches were proposed based on the comprehensive fuzzy evaluation model and neural network. Finally the proposed approaches were illustrated to evaluate the service quality in Nanjing Station based on questionnaire investigation. The results show that the proposed methods can evaluate service quality effectively and successfully, and that the approaches can provide theoretical basis for improving and enhancing railway passenger service quality.
