The extended use of DMX512 protocol has been applied in many areas such as stage and theatre. While it has two inherent flaws in landscape lighting control: the quantitative limitation of control slots and slow bandwidth utilization ratio. This paper proposed the evolution of a management and control system for landscape lighting. By using the upper Internet management network, several lower DMX512 control networks can be connected to one computer to avoid the former flaw; based on the theory of scenes, the developed addressing way of logic group address enables the scene implemented with one packet of just two data slots. Not only can run with the Internet management network, the lower DMX512 control network can also work independently, actually it is compatible with the present standard DMX512 product.

Remote real-time surveillance systems are built in a network which improves the power of application. The image processing about moving objects tracked in the system is connected with network transfer. This essential part should be concerned primarily. This paper discusses the real-time problem in this kind of system, proposes image transfer solution about reference information from scene data acquisition, and builds three remote real-time surveillance systems based on labVIEW and IMAQ vision module by researching TCP and DataStocket protocol. Finally, the characters of three systems with virtual instruments are described and compared. Experimental results will be offered to verify the effectiveness of the proposed systems.

Heat dissipation is a very important subject during the design of RGB-LED backlighting system on LCD because the heat produced by modern LEDs themselves can excessively influence their characteristics. This paper reports on a new substrate technology that offers significant benefits over conventional polymer-based insulated metal substrates (IMS). This new type of insulated aluminum substrate printed circuit board (PCB) consists of a thermally-conductive aluminum alloy substrate that insulated by a thin, chemically grown, anodized dielectric layer. Circuit is formed above the anodized layer with magnetron sputtering technology. The corresponding thermal resistances of the new and conventional insulated metal substrate printed circuit board (PCB) are measured to be 4.78degC /W and 7.61degC/W, respectively. More heat transfer means more reliable product, less light reduction and less material consumption because of eliminating the need for additional heat sinks.

Home automation systems based on wireless sensor/actuator networks are characterized by diversity of node power sources, limited computational power, and mobility. We propose a routing protocol that fully uses the location of static nodes to limit the search for a route to a small zone based on the analysis of characteristics and requirements. The calculation of two different kinds of zone and the route discovery procedure are described in this paper. According to the environment of home automation, we compared the performance of our routing protocols with the ad-hoc on-demand distance-vector protocol using simulation and gave suggestions for zone selection. Simulation results showed that our routing protocol dramatically reduced the routing overhead and increased the reliability.

As a novel bionic analytical technique, an electronic nose, inspired by the mechanism of the biological olfactory system and integrated with modern sensing technology, electronic technology and pattern recognition technology, has been widely used in many areas. Moreover, recent basic research findings in biological olfaction combined with computational neuroscience promote its development both in methodology and application. In this review, the basic information processing principle of biological olfaction and artificial olfaction are summarized and compared, and four olfactory models and their applications to electronic noses are presented. Finally, a chaotic olfactory neural network is detailed and the utilization of several biologically oriented learning rules and its spatiotemporal dynamic propties for electronic noses are discussed. The integration of various phenomena and their mechanisms for biological olfaction into an electronic nose context for information processing will not only make them more bionic, but also perform better than conventional methods. However, many problems still remain, which should be solved by further cooperation between theorists and engineers.

Abstract Performance monitoring of model predictive control systems (MPC) has received a great interest from both academia and industry. In recent years some novel approaches for multivariate control performance monitoring have been developed without the requirement of process models or interactor matrices. Among them the prediction error approach has been shown to be a promising one, but it is k-step prediction based and may not be fully comparable with the MPC objective that is multi-step prediction based. This paper develops a multi-step prediction error approach for performance monitoring of model predictive control systems, and demonstrates its application in an industrial MPC performance monitoring and diagnosis problem.

On the assumption that random interruptions in the observation process are modelled by a sequence of independent Bernoulli random variables, this paper generalize the extended Kalman filtering (EKF), the unscented Kalman filtering (UKF) and the Gaussian particle filtering (GPF) to the case in which there is a positive probability that the observation in each time consists of noise alone and does not contain the chaotic signal (These generalized novel algorithms are referred to as GEKF, GUKF and GGPF correspondingly in this paper). Using weights and network output of neural networks to constitute state equation and observation equation for chaotic time-series prediction to obtain the linear system state transition equation with continuous update scheme in an online fashion, and the prediction results of chaotic time series represented by the predicted observation value, these proposed novel algorithms are applied to the prediction of Mackey-Glass time-series with additive and multiplicative noises. Simulation results prove that the GGPF provides a relatively better prediction performance in comparison with GEKF and GUKF.
