Recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus from water by ball-milled biochar composite supported by acid mine drainage sludge

Excessive nitrogen and phosphorus can lead to the eutrophication of water. Biochar, derived from agricultural and forestry waste, is effective for water eutrophication control, but its adsorption performance requires enhancement through process optimization. To explore efficient methods for the recovery of nitrogen and phosphorus, pinecone biochar was mixed with acidic mine drainage (AMD) sludge through ball milling to produce modified pinecone biochar (MPB). Batch adsorption experiments and SEM-EDS, FTIR, and XRD tests were employed to investigate co-adsorption performance and mechanisms of MPB for ammonium and phosphate. The results showed that low-temperature pyrolysis (300 °C) facilitated the adsorption of ammonium and phosphate by MPB. The adsorption process followed the Elovich model, suggesting that heterogeneous chemisorption was the primary mechanism. Ammonium adsorption followed the Langmuir model, and phosphate adsorption followed the Freundlich model. The recovery rates for ammonium and phosphate by MPB reached 29.58 % and 96.19 %, respectively. Site energy analysis confirmed that ion exchange and surface precipitation were the main adsorption mechanisms. The presence of Fe3+ and Al3+ in AMD sludge facilitated phosphate precipitation, while the increased functional group content in MPB enhanced ammonium adsorption. This study provides a potential pathway for the sustainable use of forestry waste and industrial waste as well as for nitrogen and phosphorus recovery. © 2025 The Korean Society of industrial and engineering Chemistry

Integrative approach for predicting drug-target interactions via matrix factorization and broad learning systems

In the drug discovery process, time and costs are the most typical problems resulting from the experimental screening of drug-target interactions (DTIs). To address these limitations, many computational methods have been developed to achieve more accurate predictions. However, identifying DTIs mostly rely on separate learning tasks with drug and target features that neglect interaction representation between drugs and target. In addition, the lack of these relationships may lead to a greatly impaired performance on the prediction of DTIs. Aiming at capturing comprehensive drug-target representations and simplifying the network structure, we propose an integrative approach with a convolution broad learning system for the DTI prediction (ConvBLS-DTI) to reduce the impact of the data sparsity and incompleteness. First, given the lack of known interactions for the drug and target, the weighted K-nearest known neighbors (WKNKN) method was used as a preprocessing strategy for unknown drug-target pairs. Second, a neighborhood regularized logistic matrix factorization (NRLMF) was applied to extract features of updated drug-target interaction information, which focused more on the known interaction pair parties. Then, a broad learning network incorporating a convolutional neural network was established to predict DTIs, which can make classification more effective using a different perspective. Finally, based on the four benchmark datasets in three scenarios, the ConvBLS-DTI’s overall performance out-performed some mainstream methods. The test results demonstrate that our model achieves improved prediction effect on the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve and the precision-recall curve. ©2024 the Author(s), licensee AIMS Press. Building an efficient, safe, and sustainable energy system has been listed as one of the national energy development strategies in China. Through unified management and optimization for the processes of energy generation, transmission, conversion, and distribution, the integrated energy system(IES) can meet the diversified demands on energy with high efficiency and effectiveness, providing the basis to form a low-carbon sustainable social development mode. This research reviews the studies and issues of system modeling, assessment, and operational optimization on the IES. The ongoing problems that need further investigation are also presented. Besides, research of data-driven approaches on the IES will be discussed,based on which the future research directions are suggested here.

Femtocell network has a great development space in increasing coverage and capacity of wireless network. In order to meet the quality of service (QoS) requirements of MUEs in MBS coverage, we propose a seed channel incentive mechanism in the two-tier femtocell network, where the MBS provides sub-channels to FBSs to motivate them to serve for the MUEs within the MBS coverage. To maximize the energy efficiency of femtocell layer after hybrid access, the optimization problem is modeled. The combined method of worst-case, Dinkelbach and continuous convex approximation is developed to make the optimization problem solvable. In addition, in order to realize the practical application of the proposed scheme, an optimization algorithm combining sub-channel and power allocation is developed. The numerical results show that the proposed algorithm is effective in improving the energy efficiency of the femtocell layer. © 2023 IEEE.

Nitrous oxide(N_(2)O)is a potent greenhouse gas that can be emitted during the biological treatment of *** this study,a comparison of the long-term performance characteristics and N_(2)O production of sequencing batch reactors(SBR)and continuous stirred tank reactors(CSTR)during nitrite-based denitrification was *** was found that both reactors had NO_(2)^(-)-N removal efficiencies over 99.9%,but the N_(2)O-N emissions from the SBR reached~2.3%of the removal nitrite-N load,while in the CSTR it never exceeded 0.1%.High frequency sampling during one operation cycle of the SBR demonstrated that the N_(2)O accumulation ratio was~0.1%during the feast period,increased to~1.9%in the first five hours of the famine period,and then gradually reached~2.3%at the end of *** experiments showed that limiting extracellular electron donor is required for N_(2)O accumulation in cells from the SBR-famine period and that cells from the CSTR do not accumulate N_(2)O when either nitrite or carbon is *** notable difference in the two reactor communities was the high level of accumulation of intracellular granules,most likely polyhydroxybutyrate(PHB),in cells during the feast period in the *** assembly and binning found that one genome(PRO1),which is a Thauera,accounted for over half the metagenomic reads in both *** shifts in gene regulation nor community composition explained the observed differences in reactor performance suggesting some post-transcriptional regulation obligatorily linked to antecedent conditions underly increased N_(2)O production in the SBR.

Multi-agent path planning is one of the most challenging problems in the field of artificial intelligence. In this paper, an improved generative adversarial network model with hybrid attention mechanism for data-driven path planning is proposed. Firstly, by introducing spatial attention mechanism, positional attention mechanism and channel attention mechanism, a hybrid attention module is designed. This module not only establishes feature relationship between different locations, but also provides adaptive feature weights to highlight key information. Next, by embedding the hybrid attention module into the generative adversarial network, an improved generative adversarial network model is developed. The proposed model can capture effective feature information in the image and ensures that the generated path can evade obstacles accurately. Finally, some simulation results are provided to verify the superiority and accuracy of the model in path planning. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

Remaining useful life (RUL) prediction can improve the availability and efficiency of equipment or system by providing timely maintenance suggestions. In this paper, an improved hybrid attention learning system for RUL prediction is developed. By introducing adaptive weighting, a hybrid attention mechanism with self attention and external attention is designed. The mechanism enhances the attention to samples with similar performance degradation patterns, and improves the feature extraction ability of the learning system for sensor data with strong temporal correlation. Finally, we conducted a series of simulation experiments on the commercial modular aviation propulsion system simulation (C-MAPSS) dataset to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method in RUL prediction. © 2023 Technical Committee on control Theory, Chinese Association of Automation.

In this study,carbamazepine(CBZ)decay in solution has been studied by coupling electro-coagulation with electro-Fenton(EC-EF)with a novel P-rGO/carbon felt(CF)cathode,aiming to accelerate the in-situ generation of·OH,instead of adding Fe2+and ***,the fabri-cated P-rGO and its derived cathode were characterized by XRD,SEM,AFM,XPS and electro-chemical test(EIS,CV and LSV).Secondly,it was confirmed that the performance in removal efficiency and electric energy consumption(EEC)by EC-EF(kobs=0.124 min^(-1),EEC=43.98 kWh/kg CBZ)was better than EF(kobs=0.069 min^(-1),EEC=61.04 kWh/kg CBZ).Then,P-rGO/CF(kobs=0.248 min^(-1),EEC=29.47 kWh/kg CBZ,CE=61.04%)showed the best performance in EC-EF,among all studied heteroatom-doped graphene/*** superior performance may be associated with its largest layer spacing and richest C=C,which can promote the electron transfer rate and conductivity of the ***,more H2O2 and·OH could be produced to degrade CBZ,and almost 100%CBZ was removed with kobs being 0.337 min^(-1) and the EEC was only 24.18 kWh/kg CBZ,under the optimal conditions(P-rGO loading was 6.0 mg/cm^(2),the current density was 10.0 mA/cm^(2),the gap between electrode was 2.0 cm).Additionally,no matter the influent is acidic,neutral or alkaline,no additional pH adjustment is required for the effluent of *** last,an inconsecutive empirical kinetic model was firstly estab-lished to predict the effect of operating parameters on CBZ removal.

CT-NeRF: Incremental Optimization of Neural Radiance Field and Camera Poses with Complex Trajectory

Neural radiance field (NeRF) has achieved impressive results in high-quality 3D scene reconstruction. However, NeRF heavily relies on precise camera poses. While recent works like BARF have introduced camera pose optimization within NeRF, their applicability is limited to simple trajectory scenes. Existing methods struggle while tackling complex trajectories involving large rotations. To address this limitation, we propose CT-NeRF, an incremental reconstruction and optimization pipeline using only RGB images without pose and depth input. In this pipeline, we first propose a local-global bundle adjustment under a pose graph connecting neighboring frames to enforce the consistency between poses to escape the local minima caused by only pose consistency with the scene structure. Further, we instantiate the consistency between poses as a reprojection error constraint resulting from pixel-level correspondences between input image pairs. Through the incremental reconstruction, CT-NeRF enables the recovery of both camera poses and scene structure and is capable of handling scenes with complex trajectories. We evaluate the performance of CT-NeRF on two real-world datasets, NeRF-Buster and Free-Dataset, which feature complex trajectories. Results show CT-NeRF outperforms existing methods in novel view synthesis and pose estimation accuracy. © 1991-2012 IEEE.

Simultaneous elimination of As(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) from wastewater is still a great *** this work,an iron-sulfur codoped biochar (Fe/S-BC) was successfully fabricated in a simplified way and was applied to the remediate the co-pollution of As(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ).The positive enthalpy indicated that the adsorption in As-Pb co-pollution was an endothermic *** mechanism of As(Ⅲ) removal could be illustrated by surface complexation,oxidation and *** addition to precipitation and complexation,the elimination mechanism of Pb(Ⅱ) also contained ion exchange and electrostatic *** and synergistic effects existed simultaneously in the co-contamination *** suppression of As(Ⅲ) was ascribed to competitive complexation of the two metals on Fe/S-BC,while the synergy of Pb(Ⅱ) was attributed to the formation of the PbFe2(AsO_(4))2(OH)*** experiments revealed that Fe/S-BC had outstanding ability to remove As(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ),regardless of pH dependency and interference by various coexisting *** maximum adsorption capacities of the Fe/S-BC for As(Ⅲ) and Pb(Ⅱ) were 91.2 mg/g and 631.7 mg/g,***/S-BC could be treated as a novel candidate for the elimination of As(Ⅲ)-Pb(Ⅱ) combined pollution.
