Two of the most significant factors in the success of today's system-on-chip (SoC) designs are the ability to deliver efficient access to off-chip high speed memory and the ability to be compatible with several different interface-timings of several different sorts of memories. This paper introduces a novel general external memory interface (GEMI) architecture for the high performance and high flexibility memory interface. Several techniques and methods, i.e. data and command buffers based on asynchronous FIFO, optimized bank management, multiple bus width adaptation, improved WISHBONE bus interface, optimized array-structure data accessing, are proposed in this paper for fulfilling the requirements mentioned above. And the performance improvement by using of our architecture and techniques is analyzed. At the end of the paper, the simulation and tape-out results are provided. The whole implementation of architecture is proven to be not only functional and efficient, but also flexible, programmable and reusable by simulation and silicon verification.

We study the variability of the electrical characteristics of silicon-on-insulator (SOI) SB-MOSFETs. A new method by extracting the variation of the threshold voltage from a large number of devices with different SOI thicknesses enables determining the main sources of variability and distinguishing between them. It is found that the device-to-device variability is mainly due to the inherent variation of the Schottky barrier (SB) height. An additional but smaller contribution stems from fluctuations of the SOI body thickness itself. However, scaling the SOI thickness down our measurements suggest that the SB inhomogeneity increases with decreasing t{sub}(si). Furthermore, employing dopant segregation during silicidation to realize low SB heights leads to an increase of the variability, too. Using the measured spread of Φ{sub}B we discuss on the base of simulations the influence of this variation on the on-current of SB-MOSFETs. The improved electrostatic gate control in multi-gate devices reduces the sensitivity of carrier injection on an inhomogeneous Φ{sub}B and thus suppresses the variability.

This article gives a capsule view of research on rough set theory and applications ongoing at universities and laboratories in China. This works demonstrates a novel approach using Si implantation prior to Pt deposition and PtSi formation to control the underlap length between the PtSi source/drain regions to the gate in Schottky-Barrier (SB-)^sMOSFETs. Dopant segregation at the PtSi/Si interface is used to enhance device performance. With the I{sub}(on)/I{sub}(off) current ratio as an indicator, optimized Si implant doses are found for both n- and p-channel SB-MOSFETs. Through an effective barrier width, the underlap length has direct implication on the leakage current.

Calculating models of mass action concentrations for NaBr(aq), LiNO_3(aq), HNO_3(aq), and KF(aq) binary solutions

The calculating models of mass action concentrations for electrolyte aqueous solutions NaBr-H2O, LiNO3-H2O, HNO3-H2O, and KF-H2O have been developed at 298.15 K and their molalities ranging from 0.1 mol/kg to saturation according to the ion and molecule coexistence theory as well as mass action law. The calculated mass action concentration is based on pure species as the standard state and the mole fraction as the concentration unit, and the reported activities are usually based on infinite dilution as the standard state and molality as the concentration unit. Hence, the calculated mass action concentration must be transformed to the same standard state and concentration unit. The transformation coefficients between calculated mass action concentrations and reported activities of the same component fluctuate in a very narrow range. Thus, the transformed mass action concentrations not only agree well with reported activities, but also strictly obey mass action law. The calculated results show that the new developed models can embody the intrinsic structure of investigated four electrolyte aqueous solutions. The results also indicate that mass action law has its widespread applicability to electrolyte binary aqueous solutions.

Usenet is a world-wide distributed discussion system, and it is one of the representative resources on Internet. The structure of newsgroup on Usenet forms gradually along with the evolution of the newsgroup and could provide helpful information for the users. In this paper, we present a method to evaluate the impact factors of participators and threads based on the structure of newsgroup. Some analysis and experimental results on real data sets are also provided. The impact factors could provide useful intrinsic information of the newsgroup and can be used in some applications to help access information more efficiently on the Usenet. The method can be also applied on other discussion systems, such as web forums, bulletin board systems, and so on. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2007.

In this paper, we are motivated to augment the holistic histogram representation with implicit spatial constrains. To be more concrete, we aim atending a good match function for the problem of object/scene categorization which considers the spatial constraints against heavy clutter and occlusion. Our solution is a partial match kernel under the histogram representation which varies simultaneously at both the feature and spatial resolutions, named as the Feature and Spatial Covariant (FESCO) kernel. Both the FESCO kernel and its late fusion alternative achieve better match accuracy than Spatial Pyramid Match[13] and Pyramid Match[11]. We also apply the keypoint features to video indexing. And on a large scale TRECVID data sets of over 300 hours videos, to our best knowledge, this approach achieves the state-of-the-art result for a single feature. Copyright 2007 ACM.

This paper illustrates the advantages of using the Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT) as compared to the standard Discrete Fourier Transform (DFT) for the purpose of removing random noise embedded in seismic data. The prediction filter is adopted in the DCT domain. Comparisons of the results between our method and the prediction filter in f-x domain show that the new method achieved better performance. © 2007 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Adaptive multiple subtraction is a critical and challenging procedure for the widely-used surface-related multiple attenuation (SRMA) techniques. The problem encountered in this field is that a good result is usually hard to obtain when primaries and multiples have overlap. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive multiple subtraction method based on constrained independent component analysis (CICA). In this method, the prediction error obtained by multidimensional prediction error filters (PEFs), which measure the lateral continuity of the primaries, is adopted as a constraint term in the objective function of CICA. The proposed method is demonstrated on two synthetic datasets. © 2007 Society of Exploration Geophysicists. All rights reserved.

Semantic video indexing is critical for practical video retrieval systems and a generic and scalable indexing framework is a must for indexing a large semantic lexicon with over 1000 concepts present. This paper fully explores the idea of incorporating many kinds of diverse features into a single framework, combining them altogether to obtain larger degree of invariance which is absent in any of the component features, and thus achieves genericness and scalability. We scale down the formidable computational expense with a clever design of the classification and fusion schemes. To be specific, ~20 kinds of diverse features are extracted to capture limited yet complementary variance in color, texture and edge with spatial constraints implicitly integrated, and over 100 classifiers are built subsequently and fused to produce a generic detector. The extensive experiments on a total of 310 hours of TRECVID news videos show that the proposed framework yields significantly improved performance over that of the best single feature across a variety of concepts. Moreover, a benchmark comparison demonstrates that this approach is state-of-the-art. Meanwhile, the proposed approach generalizes well over previously unseen programs and stations and scales well to a lexicon of over 300 concepts in the LSCOM [18] ontology. Copyright 2007 ACM.
