Channel Characteristics and Link Adaption for Visible Light Communication in an Industrial Scenario

Visible light communication (VLC) is one of the key technologies for the sixth generation (6G) to support the connection and throughput of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). Furthermore, VLC channel modeling is the foundation for designing efficient and robust VLC systems. In this paper, the ray-tracing simulation method is adopted to investigate the VLC channel in IIoT scenarios. The main contributions of this paper are divided into three aspects. Firstly, based on the simulated data, large-scale fading and multipath-related characteristics, including the channel impulse response (CIR), optical path loss (OPL), delay spread (DS), and angular spread (AS), are analyzed and modeled through the distance-dependent and statistical distribution models. The modeling results indicate that the channel characteristics under the single transmitter (TX) are proportional to the propagation distance. It is also found that the degree of time domain and spatial domain dispersion is higher than that in the typical rooms (conference room and corridor). Secondly, the density of surrounding objects and the effects of user heights on these channel characteristics are also investigated. Through the analysis, it can be observed that the denser objects can contribute to the smaller OPL and the larger RMS DS under the single TX case. Furthermore, due to the blocking effect of surrounding objects, the larger OPL and the smaller RMS DS can be observed at the receiver with a low height. Thirdly, due to the distance dependence of the channel characteristics and large time-domain dispersion, the link adaption method is further proposed to optimize the multipath interference problem. This method combines a luminary adaptive selection and delay adaption technique. This article introduces a novel method for transmitting video data over noisy wireless channels with high efficiency and controllability. The method derivates from model division multiple access (MDMA) to extract common semantic features from video frames. It also uses deep joint source-channel coding (JSCC) as the main framework to establish communication links and deal with channel noise. An entropy-based semantic importance coding scheme is developed to adjust the data amount accurately and explicitly. We name our method as model division video semantic communication (MDVSC). The main steps of our approach are as follows: first, video frames are transformed into a latent space to reduce computational complexity and redistribute data. Then, common features and individual features are extracted, and semantic importance coding is applied to further eliminate redundant semantic information under the communication bandwidth constraint. We evaluate our method on standard video test sequences and compare it with traditional wireless video coding methods. The results show that MDVSC generally surpasses the conventional methods in terms of quality metrics and has the capability to control code length precisely. Moreover, additional experiments and ablation studies are conducted to demonstrate its potential for various tasks.

In the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled systems, beamtracking is an important design issue. In this paper, we leverage the benefits of the integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) techniques to improve the beamtracking performance in the UAV-enabled systems. Specifically, we first obtain the angle-of-arrival/angle-of-departure (AoA/AoD) from the echo signals. Using the estimated angular information, we then propose an improved unscented Kalman filter (UKF)-based beamtracking scheme to predict the AoA/AoD from past information, taking the mobility of the UAV and the large accumulative estimation error of conventional UKF-based beamtracking scheme into account. Through numerical results, we show that our proposed beamtracking scheme can accurately estimate the AoA/AoD of our considered systems. We also demonstrate how our proposed scheme can be utilized to achieve nearly the same signal-to-noise ratio performance compared to the baseline assuming perfect AoA/AoD estimation. © 2023 IEEE.

Dynamic Proof of Data Possession and Replication With Tree Sharing and Batch Verification in the Cloud

Cloud storage attracts a lot of clients to join the paradise. For a high data availability, some clients require their files to be replicated and stored on multiple servers. Because clients are generally charged based on the redundancy level required by them, it is critical for clients to obtain convincing evidence that all replicas are stored correctly and are updated to the up-to-date version. In this article, we propose a dynamic proof of data possession and replication (DPDPR) scheme, which is proved to be secure in the defined security model. Our scheme shares a single authenticated tree across multiple replicas, which reduces the tree's storage cost significantly. Our scheme allows for batch verification for multiple challenged leaves and can verify multiple replicas in a single batch way, which considerably save bandwidth and computation resources during audit process. We also evaluate the DPDPR's performance and compare it with the most related scheme. The evaluation results show that our scheme saves almost 66 percent tree's storage cost for three replicas, and obtains almost 60 and 80 percent efficiency improvements in terms of the overall bandwidth and computation costs, respectively, when three replicas are checked and each challenged with 460 blocks.

KRProtector: Detection and Files Protection for IoT Devices on Android Without ROOT Against Ransomware Based on Decoys

Nowadays, cryptographic ransomware on Android has become one of the most serious threat. They extort users by means of encrypting private data on their devices. Even worse, there exists little files protection solution on IoT devices without ROOT. In light of this, there is an urgent need for countermeasure solutions on IoT devices without ROOT. In this article, we analyze characteristics of cryptographic ransomware. We propose the strategy of files protection against ransomware based on decoys. In order to satisfy the need of files protection on devices without root, we design and implement KRProtector to detect ransomware and protect files based on decoys.

The microgrid technology, which can dispatch power independently, is an effective way to increase the efficiency of energy utilization meanwhile develop and utilize the clean and renewable energy. However, the power generation of a single microgrid is unstable, because it is greatly affected by the external environment. Therefore, the development and application of the multi-microgrid system have gradually drawn various countries' attention. In order to minimize the operating cost and gaseous pollutant emission of the multi-microgrid system, which is composed of renewable energies and electric vehicles and so on, this paper builds a 24 hours day-ahead multi-objective complex constrained optimization model, using interval optimization to handle uncertainties of renewable energies. In view of the model characteristics, the metaheuristic strategies about initialization and repair of solution are designed. Furthermore, the fuzzy membership degree and Chebyshev function are used in parallel to decompose the multi-objective optimization problem, thus a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm based on hybrid decomposition (MOEA/HD) is constructed. Finally, the effectiveness of the metaheuristic strategies can be verified by analyzing the simulation results in this paper. Moreover, the results prove that the MOEA/HD is more efficient, which can get a higher-quality Pareto optimal solution set when compared to other algorithms.

On the Statistics of the α-Beaulieu-Xie and Its Extreme Distributions With Their Applications

This letter presents a general & alpha;-Beaulieu-Xie (& alpha;-BX) fading model and its extreme (& alpha;-BXe) case. First, we derive the new expressions of statistical characteristics for these models by employing a mixture & alpha;-& micro;distribution, including the probability density function and cumulative distribution function. Then, capitalizing on these new statistics, several exact and approximate properties of a selection combining system over the independent non-identically distributed & alpha;-BX and & alpha;-BXe fading channels are investigated in terms of outage probability and average symbol error probability, respectively. Finally, numerical analysis and simulations are performed to corroborate the availability of the theoretical analysis.

Modeling and Quantitative Analysis of Motion Detection in CSI-Based Sensing

Channel state information (CSI) based sensing approaches have unique advantages for fine-grained motion sensing. However, due to the mismatch between the sensing position and detection probability, mapping motion-sensing precision to optimal detection zones is an involved problem. In this letter, we propose a general CSI-based motion detection model, in which the Fresnel Zones and radar detection theory are used to analyze the key factors affecting detection probability. Besides, analytic expressions for the detection probability at arbitrary positions with available and unavailable phases are derived. Finally, numerical results corroborate the theoretical analysis and show that appropriate transceiver deployment and sensing frequency selection can effectively improve sensing performance.

Energy-Efficient Coverage and Capacity Enhancement With Intelligent UAV-BSs Deployment in 6G Edge Networks

With the development of 5G/6G networks, the number of wireless users is growing exponentially, and the application scenarios are increasingly diversified. Using unmanned aerial vehicles as base stations (UAV-BSs) to serve ground users has become a trend for wide area coverage and capacity enhancement for rapid access of service in 6G networks. However, as UAV-BSs have limited energy or battery storage, solutions to optimize energy efficiency while providing high-quality services are necessary. Therefore, this paper mainly concentrates on the energy-efficient deployment of coverage-aimed UAV-BSs (Co-UAV-BSs) and capacity-aimed UAV-BSs (Ca-UAV-BSs) for the coverage and capacity enhancement of ground communication under disaster areas or burst data traffic. First, Co-UAV-BSs are deployed with DQN algorithm to to get the UAV-BSs' optimal flight paths, which mainly adopted to detect out of service users in such areas. Then the users are completely clustered based on the detection results. After that, Co-UAV-BSs and Ca-UAV-BSs are deployed hierarchically based on the user distribution and sought to optimize the energy efficiency with acceptable user services. Still, DQN algorithm and the A3C algorithm are used for obtaining all the UAV-BSs' location deployment and users' best connections. The simulation results show that the dynamic flying path requires less energy than the fixed path for user detecting. For the coverage and capacity enhancement, it reveals the solution we proposed could provide high-quality service for users with high energy efficiency comparing to traditional algorithms.

This paper introduces a novel sampling method, customized stratified-cluster sampling, to optimize the active measurement configuration for simulating WebRTC network behavior, thereby enhancing measurement accuracy and ensuring consistency with actual WebRTC network behavior. The optimization aims to align the measurement results closely with the real-world performance of WebRTC by focusing on the packet inter-arrival interval's mean and standard deviation as key network indicators. Through a comparative experiment with non-optimized measurement configurations, our optimized approach demonstrates a higher degree of similarity to the true WebRTC network behavior across both statistical dimensions and time series features. © 2024 IEEE.
