A new wavelength reservation scheme is proposed the reconfiguration times of optical cross-connects (OXCs) for we consider the reconfiguration information of switch fabrics to mitigate the connection setup time and minimize WDM opticalnetworks in this study. In this scheme, in the signaling protocol, which is designated as the signaling with switch fabric status (SWFS). Distributed reservation algorithms will reserve the wavelength with minimum of reconfiguration times of OXCs along the route. Simulation results indicate that the proposed schemes with switch fabrics status have shorter setup time, lower switching ratio as well as better blocking performance than those of the traditional classic schemes. Moreover, the proposed schemes with SWFS significantly reduce the number of switch fabrics that need to be reconfigured.

Due to triangular photonic crystal fiber (PCF) high nonlinearity and low dispersion slope, using the condition that the different linear phase shift combination must satisfy the phase match, the expressions of gain and bandwidth for one-pump fiber-optic parametric amplifiers (1P-FOPA) based on PCF in the normal and abnormal dispersion regimes are derived respectively. Then, 1P-FOPAs performance comparison among PCF, dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF) and highly nonlinear fibers (HNLF) are carried out by numerical simulations. It is shown that the 1P-FOPA based on triangular PCF can provide higher peak gain over wider bandwidth. When the pump wavelength is at the zero-dispersion wavelength (ZDWL), about 108.7 nm single-pass gain bandwidth and 91.4 dB peak gain can be obtained; when in the normal dispersion regime and near zero-dispersion wavelength, not less than 46 nm single-pass gain bandwidth 77.1 nm away from pump can be achieved. Finally the influence of dispersion fluctuation is analyzed, and the result shows that the tolerance of the 1P-FOPA based on photonic crystal fiber is better.

Since network traffic of Metro areanetworks (MAN) shows asymmetric, burst, and highly dynamic, OBS becomes a compromise between enormous bandwidth of WDM and smaller flow of terminal individual users. Based on the analysis of several access control mechanisms of OBS metro ring network, this study presents a distributed collision-free (DCF) access control protocol. Using simple topology structure of ring network, this protocol assumes that all nodes in the ring networks are distributed evenly. Owing to adopting multi-token for data access control in ring network, which is not only for each data channel but also for node-to-node, the protocol realizes the unified controlling for bursts in time and space, and provides advantages of high bandwidth utilization, conflict-free, low latency and good scalability.

The polarization behavior of the electromagnetic waves under external electric field in the periodically poled optical superlattice is experimentally observed, which reveals that for the QPM wavelengths [fulfilling the quasi-phase-matched (QPM) condition] the evolution of the polarization exhibits generated paths along the Poincare sphere, but for the NQPM wavelength (not fulfilling the QPM condition) it will split into discrete paths. These phenomena are likely to promote a novel method for a precise polarization control.

The coupled-wave equations of three-wave interactions are generalized into three dimensions. The reciprocal lattice vectors (RLVs) of three-dimensional (3D) nonlinear photonic crystals (NPCs) which show some unique properties are analyzed in detail as compared to those in one- and two-dimensional cases. It is proposed as an example that the cross-distributing conical harmonic beams can be obtained from the 3D NPC by intentionally using the proper RLVs. Some other possible applications are suggested at the end of discussion.

In this paper, we consider a multi-user optical grid environment where the optical grid network is shared among multiple users who have a high demand for data processing. In such multi-user grid environment, since the supercomputer can start the data processing only after the corresponding data file has reached it, one critical problem is how to effectively schedule large data file transfers on the optical grid network. In this paper, we propose four dynamic scheduling algorithms to address the issue of large file transfers on multi-user optical grid network. Two objectives, namely the efficiency and fairness, are considered to evaluate the performance of each scheduling algorithm. Efficiency aims at how to achieve the best overall quality of grid service, and fairness regards the service quality deviation among grid users. We study the performance of each algorithm, and a tradeoff between efficiency and fairness is shown by our results.

A generalized reflection time which follows directly from the Schrödinger equation without approximation is obtained. By the Winger-Eisenbud approach, this reflection time is conceptually well defined and can be applied to arbitrary continuous potentials including both quantum tunneling and quantum reflection issue. An optical alignment-free and highly accurate method is employed to measure the magnetic field-dependent refractive index of magnetic fluid (MF) in bulk. The measured refractive index decreases significantly with the increasing magnetic strength and then tends to saturate in the high intensity range. By applying a tunable magnetic field ranging between 0 and 1661 Oe, the maximum shift of the refractive index of MF in bulk is found to be 0.0231.

For the beam splitter attack strategy against quantum key distribution using two-mode squeezed states, the analytical expression of the optimal beam splitter parameter is provided in this paper by applying the Shannon information theory. The theoretical secret information rate after error correction and privacy amplification is given in terms of the squeezed parameter and channel parameters. The results show that the two-mode squeezed state quantum key distribution is secure against an optimal beam splitter attack.
