Optimal Auxiliary Frequency control of Wind Turbine Generators and Coordination with Synchronous Generators

Auxiliary frequency control of a wind turbine generator(WTG) has been widely used to enhance the frequencysecurity of power systems with high penetration of renewableenergy. Previous studies recommend two types of control schemes,including frequency droop control and emulated inertia control,which simulate the response characteristics of the synchronousgenerator (SG). This paper plans to further explore the optimalauxiliary frequency control of the wind turbine based on previousresearch. First, it is determined that the virtual inertia control haslittle effect on the maximum rate of change of frequency (MaxROCOF)if the time delay of the control link of WTG is taken intoconsideration. Secondly, if a WTG operates in maximum powerpoint tracking (MPPT) mode and uses the rotor deceleration forfrequency modulation, its optimal auxiliary frequency control willcontain only droop control. Furthermore, if the droop control isproperly delayed, better system frequency response (SFR) willbe obtained. The reason is that coordination between the WTGand SG is important for SFR when the frequency modulationcapability of the WTG is limited. The frequency modulationcapability of the WTG is required to be released more ***, when designing optimal auxiliary frequency controlfor the WTG, a better control scheme is worth further study.

Silicone rubber (SIR) has been widely used in the insulation of cable accessories due to its excellent performance. In this paper, pure SIR and nano Al2O3/SIR composites are thermally aged for 0-80 days at 200°C. The effects of long-term thermal aging on the space charge transport are analyzed. The results show that with the increase of thermal aging time, the accumulation of heteropolar charge of pure SIR and nano Al2O3/SIR composites gradually decreases and changes to the accumulation of homopolar charge. Compared with pure SIR, the space charge accumulation of Al2O3/SIR composites decreases significantly and changes little with the increase of thermal aging time. It is believed that when doped nano Al2O3 in SIR, the increase of carrier mobility and the introduction of metal oxides reacting with fallen free radicals to form stable compounds both lead to less space charge accumulation of Al2O3/SIR composites. © 2022 IEEE.

Transient stability assessment(TSA)is of great importance in power system operation and *** of the usual tasks in TSA is to estimate the critical clearing time(CCT)of a given fault under the given network topology and pre-fault power ***-driven methods try to obtain models describing the mapping between these factors and the CCT from a large number of ***,the influence of network topology on CCT is hard to be analyzed and is often ignored,which makes the models inaccurate and *** this paper,a novel data-driven TSA model combining Mahalanobis kernel regression and ensemble learning is proposed to deal with the *** model is a weighted sum of several *** sub-model only uses the data of one topology to construct a kernel *** weights are determined by both the topological similarity and numerical similarity between the *** similarities are decided by the parameters in Mahalanobis distance,and the parameters are to be *** reduce the model complexity,sub-models within the same topology category share the same *** estimating CCT,the model uses not only the sub-model which the sample topology belongs to,but also other ***,it avoids the problem that there may be too few data under some *** also efficiently utilizes information of data under all the ***,its decision-making process is clear and understandable,and an effective training algorithm is also *** results on both the IEEE 10-machine 39-bus and a real system verify the effectiveness of the proposed model.

The wide-band oscillation resulting from the interaction between power electronics and the power grid is increasingly evident to the power system. It is necessary to monitor the dynamic behavior of the wide-band oscillation. However, the existing phasor measurement unit (PMU) and the corresponding wide-area measurement system (WAMS) can hardly capture wide-band phasors. To get a better view of wide-band oscillation, a measurement method to capture wide-band phasors is proposed in this paper, as well as a frame of a corresponding wide-area monitoring system for wide-band oscillation (WOMS) is constructed. The prototype of the wide-band phasor measurement unit (WPMU)-based on this measurement method is developed. The essential software and hardware of the WPMU are elab.rated. The steady tests and dynamic tests are executed to verify the capability of the WPMU. The results indicate that WPMU and WOMS are highly effective in analyzing wide-band oscillation. © 2022 IEEE.

Aiming at the power allocation problem of multiple energy storage power stations distributed at different locations in the regional power grid participating in frequency modulation services, a frequency modulation power optimization allocation strategy for multiple energy storage systems considering the dual constraints of frequency modulation cost and frequency modulation capability is proposed. Firstly, a multi-objective optimization allocation model for frequency modulation power is constructed with the minimum frequency modulation cost and minimum deviation of the state of charge (SOC) for energy storage power plants. Secondly, using Pareto based multi-objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) to solve the model, introduce adaptive weight coefficients and fuzzy membership functions for each objective function regarding the frequency regulation demand of the power grid and the deviation of the SOC of energy storage stations, construct a comprehensive satisfaction function to make decisions on the most advantageous points on the Pareto frontier, in order to obtain the optimal output of each energy storage station that can adapt to the frequency regulation requirements of the power grid. Finally, simulation analysis was conducted on the proposed strategy in this article, and the results showed that: The proposed strategy not only enhances the frequency regulation economy of the regional power grid, but also helps to restore the SOC of the energy storage power station.

With more applications and larger transmission capacity of LCC-HVDC transmission systems, commutation failure has attracted more attention. In view of this problem, existing methods pay less attention to commutation failures caused by severe short-circuit faults on AC or DC side. Thus an auxiliary method is needed as a supplement. This paper develops a method for SFCLs to suppress commutation failure in HVDC transmission system. A strategy based on SFCLs is designed as an auxiliary method to mitigate commutation failures caused by severe short-circuit faults. The proposed method is based on the proposed module. The operating principles are presented. The performance of the proposed method is validated by simulation results in PSCAD. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively prevent the first commutation failure caused by severe short circuit fault.

AC/DC hybrid power grid is the new form of power grid development. The traditional analysis method of AC power grid is not suitable for AC/DC hybrid power grid. DC transmission system can be regarded as a two-port network. Thus it must be equivalent to an AC circuit and problems in AC/DC hybrid grids can be simplified to them in AC grids. Take this idea, the paper has done some preliminary works: based on LCC-HVDC under steady-state, a method of equivalent DC lines and converter stations to three-phase AC lines is proposed, which is called pole-phase transformation. The effectiveness of the method is verified in the simulation of LCC-HVDC model. The simulation results show that AC/DC hybrid power grids with LCC-HVDC can be equivalent to an AC grid built by the proposed pole-phase transformation method in the steady state.

Enhancing the electrical performance of silicone rubber (SiR) for cable accessories is noteworthy as they are almost the weakest parts of the cable system. Two types of voltage stabilizers were grafted onto the surface of nano-zirconia (ZrO 2 ) particles, and the grafted nanoparticles were added to the SiR. Measurements such as breakdown strength, and conductivity were carried out to evaluate the electrical performance of SiR nanocomposites. The electrical performance measurement results indicated that the breakdown strength of the nanocomposite SiR improved while the conductance current was reduced. The trap distribution showed that the improvement of the electrical performance of the nanocomposite SiR is mainly due to the decrease of the shallow trap density or the increase of the deep trap density.

In this paper a thyristor-controlled superconducting current limiting module is proposed based on resistive superconducting current limiting units. The operating principles are presented followed by detailed analysis for commutation under AC short-circuit faults and DC short-circuit faults. The performance of the proposed method is validated by simulation results in MATlab.Simulink. The simulation results show that the proposed method can effectively prevent the first commutation failure caused by severe short circuit fault.

Static DC and PR are typical operation conditions of HVDC converter transformer bushing outlet device, moreover, the electrical parameters of RIP, transformer oil and OIP have the nonlinear relationship with E-field stress and temperature. Under the temperature gradient, the electrical parameters will modify the static DC and PR E-field distribution of the composite insulation. In order to simulate static DC and PR electric field of the composite insulation structure, this paper established the full model of the converter transformer outlet. Then, the structure parameters of converter transformer outlet have been optimized using combined RBF neural network and NSGA-II algorithm. Moreover, electric field verification calculation has been carried out under AC and PR conditions. The results show that under uniform temperature condition, E-field strength is larger than that under iso-thermal condition. The overshoot coefficient of the bushing end and barrier reach 65% and 45%, respectively. The study can provide reference for the design of outlet structure of the converter transformer.
