Coordinating workload balancing and power switching in renewable energy powered data center

There has been growing concern about energy consumption and environmental impact of datacenters. Some pioneers begin to power datacenters with renewable energy to offset carbon footprint. However, it is challenging to integrate intermittent renewable energy into datacenter power system. Grid-tied system is widely deployed in renewable energy powered datacenters. But the drawbacks （e.g. Harmonic dis- turbance and costliness） of grid tie inverter harass this design. Besides, the mixture of green load and brown load makes power management heavily depend on software measurement and monitoring, which often suffers inaccuracy. We propose DualPower, a novel power provisioning architecture that en- ables green datacenters to integrate renewable power supply without grid tie inverters. To optimize DualPower operation, we propose a specially designed power management frame- work to coordinate workload balancing with power supply switching. We evaluate three optimization schemes （LM, PS and JO） under different datacenter operation scenarios on our trace-driven simulation platform. The experimental results show that DualPower can be as efficient as grid-tied system and has good scalab.lity. In contrast to previous works, Du- alPower integrates renewable power at lower cost and main- tains full availab.lity of datacenter servers.

Satellite applications such as remote sensing application are overwhelmed with vast quantities of data. Nevertheless, the storage resources in the satellite are so limited that it should be used more efficient. The similarity between the remote sensing data is high, but the dissimilar parts of the data distribute irregularly. When using the traditional deduplication algorithm to split the file into chunks, a large amount of chunks are exactly similar but not the same, which results in the bad effect of data deduplication. We propose a deduplication algorithm based on data similarity and delta encoding to reduce the usage of storage resources. The data similarity analysis can find out the similar data. The delta encoding technology can reduce the usage of storage resources. Through experiments on remote sensing application data, we have achieved deduplication ratios up to 30:1, and analyzed how the chunksize affect the experiment results. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2017.

The core operation of symbolic execution based test data generation is to generate a path constraint in terms of input variables for a selected path. Solutions to the path constraint are test data which will be used to execute the target path. So far, the limitations of constraint solving still prevent its widespread use in practice. Most of the constraint solvers aim at a particular kind of constraint and might have no way to deal with complex path constraints derived in a real-world software application. To tackle the problem, we propose a hybrid solving strategy for path constraints containing multiple kinds of constraints. In particular, the path constraint is converted and divided into two parts that can be solved by different constraint solving techniques. A local search method is combined with a linear constraint solver to solve complex mathematical constraints. We have extended the symbolic execution engine KLEE with our approach and evaluated its effectiveness on a set of mathematical programs. The preliminary evaluation shows that our approach can solve a majority of complex path constraints in the experiments in reasonable time.

Distributed coordination algorithms (DCA) carry out information processing processes among a group of networked agents without centralized information fusion. Though it is well known that DCA characterized by an SIA (stochastic, indecomposable, aperiodic) matrix generate consensus asymptotically via synchronous iterations, the dynamics of DCA with asynchronous iterations have not been studied extensively, especially when viewed as stochastic processes. This paper aims to show that for any given irreducible stochastic matrix, even non-SIA, the corresponding DCA lead to consensus successfully via random asynchronous iterations under a wide range of conditions on the transition probability. Particularly, the transition probability is neither required to be independent and identically distributed, nor characterized by a Markov chain. Copyright © 2018, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Find out the potential favorite data is the essence of recommendation techniques, which facilitates the recommendation techniques become a vital issue in the big data researches and applications. The traditional recommendation research and application centers on the commercial items and resources. We apply the recommendation to social relationships in social networks. We design a framework which can analyze and recommend various types of relationships. The framework has four modules and three work modes. Furthermore, we design a hybrid recommendation approach in the framework for the balancing between accuracy and efficiency. The framework can recommend the social relationships with high accuracy and low cost.

A VM-shared desktop virtualization system based on OpenStack

With the increasing popularity of cloud computing, desktop virtualization is rising in recent years as a branch of virtualization technology. However, existing desktop virtualization systems are mostly designed as a one-to-one mode, which one VM can only be accessed by one user. Meanwhile, previous desktop virtualization systems perform weakly in terms of response time and cost saving. This paper proposes a novel VM-Shared desktop virtualization system based on OpenStack platform. The paper modified the connecting process and the display data transmission process of the remote display protocol SPICE to support VM-Shared function. On the other hand, we propose a server-push display mode to improve user interactive experience. The experimental results show that our system performs well in response time and achieves a low CPU consumption.

As a new form of social media, microblogs (e.g., Twitter and Weibo) are playing an important role in people's daily life. With the rise in popularity and size of microblogs, there is a need for distributed approaches that can detect bursty event with low latency from the short-text data stream. In this paper, we propose a distributed and incremental temporal topic model for microblogs called Bursty Event dEtection (BEE+). BEE+ is able to detect bursty events from short-text dataset and model the temporal information. And BEE+ processes the post-stream incrementally to track the topic drifting of events over time. Therefore, the latent semantic indices are preserved from one time period to the next. In order to achieve real-time processing, we design a distributed execution framework based on Spark engine. To verify its ability to detect bursty event, we conduct experiments on a Weibo dataset of 6,360,125 posts. The results show that BEE+ can outperform the baselines for detecting the meaningful bursty events and track the topic drifting. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. We present a novel global graph matching framework based on virtual nodes for multi-object tracking in multiple views. Contrary to recent approaches, we incorporate a global graph matching structure (GGMS), allowing the tracker to better cope with long-term occlusions and tracking failure caused by interaction of targets. In our approach, the matching problem is solved as follows: Virtual detections are introduced by mapping the nodes among views, to ensure that the amount of detections in each view is the same, and then realize the whole graph matching. In addition, appropriate optimization is performed to convert this mapping problem to the Assignment Problem, which could be efficiently addressed by the Hungarian Algorithm. Finally, we demonstrate the validity of our approach on the publicly availab.e datasets, and achieve very competitive results by quantitative evaluation. © Springer International Publishing AG 2016.

As a well-known field of big data applications, smart city takes advantage of massive data analysis to achieve efficient management and sustainable development in the current worldwide urbanization process. An important problem in smart city is how to discover frequent trajectory sequence pattern and cluster trajectory. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a cloud-based taxi trajectory pattern mining and trajectory clustering framework for smart city. Our work mainly includes (1) preprocessing raw Global Positioning System trace by calling the Baidu API Geocoding;(2) proposing a distributed trajectory pattern mining (DTPM) algorithm based on Spark;and (3) proposing a distributed trajectory clustering (DTC) algorithm based on Spark. The proposed DTPM algorithm and DTC algorithm can overcome the high input/output overhead and communication overhead by adopting in-memory computation. In addition, the proposed DTPM algorithm can avoid generating redundant local trajectory patterns to significantly improve the overall performance. The proposed DTC algorithm can enhance the performance of trajectory similarity computation by transforming the trajectory similarity calculation into AND and OR operators. Experimental results indicate that DTPM algorithm and DTC algorithm can significantly improve the overall performance and scalab.lity of trajectory pattern mining and trajectory clustering on massive taxi trace data. The models developed to date for knowledge base embedding are all based on the assumption that the relations contained in knowledge bases are binary. For the training and testing of these embedding models, multi-fold (or n-ary) relational data are converted to triples (e.g., in FB15K dataset) and interpreted as instances of binary relations. This paper presents a canonical representation of knowledge bases containing multi-fold relations. We show that the existing embedding models on the popular FB15K datasets correspond to a suboptimal modelling framework, resulting in a loss of structural information. We advocate a novel modelling framework, which models multi-fold relations directly using this canonical representation. Using this framework, the existing TransH model is generalized to a new model, m-TransH. We demonstrate experimentally that m-TransH outperforms TransH by a large margin, thereby establishing a new state of the art.
