Script-based automated regression testing is widely used in industry. In this work, we focus on failed tests in a real regression test project. The causes of 197 failed tests produced in automated testing are examined and categorized based on an analysis procedure presented. The result shows that incorrect scripts, oracle mismatches, test tool bugs and misconfigurations involved in testing contribute most to failures instead of product bugs. Detecting and fixing the false positives are lab.rious and time-consuming. Our empirical study demonstrates that the benefits of test automation are obliterated to some extent in practical settings. To improve the effectiveness of automated regression testing further, some issues should receive more attention. © 2012 IEEE.

With internet delivery of video content surging to an un-precedented level, video recommendation has become an important approach for helping people access interesting videos. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to integrate viewing history for personalized video recommendation. For a given user, our approach calculates a recommendation score for each video candidate, that composes of two parts: the interest degree of this video by the user's friends, and the taste similarities between the user and his friends. We measure the interest degree of each video by considering its textual, visual and popularity information. Meanwhile, we construct tag set for each user based on his/her viewing history to estimate the taste similarities between different users. The final recommended videos are ranked according to the accumulated recommendation scores from different recommenders. We conduct experiments with 45 users and more than 11, 000 videos, and the results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of our approach. Copyright © 2012 ACM.

Malware behavior classification approach based on Naive Bayes

Because of the interference of obfuscation and polymorphism on malware analysis and detection, the dynamic analysis of malware binaries during run-time is becoming a research hotspot in intrusion detection field. Malware classification is a key problem in the research of dynamic malware behavior analysis. On the basis of the malware behavior monitoring result reports, after discussing of malware behavior characteristics, operation similarity of behavior and the effect of random factors on behavior pattern, this paper proposed a framework for automatic malware behavior classification using Naive Bayes machine learning model. The framework improves the accuracy and efficiency of classification by introducing the Naive Bayes. Then we designed and implemented automatic malware behavior classifier prototype called MalwareClassifier. In case study, we evaluated the prototype using behavior sequence reports which were generated through true malware. The experiment results show that our approach is effective, and the performance of training and classification is improved through the introduction of Naive Bayes model.

Regression faults are inevitably introduced in software development. Identifying and fixing regression faults can be tedious and time-consuming. The goal of my doctoral research is to provide an automated practical technique to effectively and efficiently locating failure-inducing changes. In this work, the research problem and related work is discussed first. Then, our approach, research questions, completed work and future work is presented. Finally, the expected contributions of my thesis are listed. © 2012 IEEE.

We propose a novel surface-aware ray tracing method based on implicit model representation. Each horizon is represented by a signed distance field and the spatial relationships between horizons are described by a stratigraphic binary tree. With this kind of implicit representation, complex structural model (e.g., heavily faulted, intrusions and unconformities) are easily handled, and the velocity discontinuities across interfaces can be represented accurately. Moreover, the ray-intersection with the interfaces can be accomplished very efficiently because only finite number of local computations is involved. The proposed method has many potential applications such as ray-based seismic modeling, ray-based seismic migration and tomographic migration velocity analysis, etc. © 2012 SEG.

Satellite data products derived from the remote sensing observations describe features of the land, ocean and atmosphere. And by data processing, they can be used to study processes and trends on local/global scale for real-time environmental research and applications. However, the advances of cutting-edge remote sensing technology bring the challenge of data deluge for satellite data analysis and interpretation. With combinations of human intelligence and machine intelligence, we develop a satellite data portal for crowdsourcing data analysis and interpretation through teaching and learning to cope with the overwhelming data deluge. Compared with all the existing data portals and crowdsourcing systems, it is the first attempt to embed crowdsourcing into a data portal to provide integrated services of satellite data access and analysis.

Delta debugging has been proposed for failure-inducing changes identification. Despite promising results, there are two practical factors that thwart the application of delta debugging: large number of tests and misleading false positives. To address the issues, we present a combination of coverage analysis and delta debugging that automatically isolates failure-inducing changes. Evaluations on twelve real regressions in GNU software demonstrate both the speed gain and effectiveness improvements.

software debugging starts with bug reports. Test engineers confirm bugs and determine the corresponding developers to fix them. However, the analysis of bug reports is time-consuming and manual inspection is difficult and tedious. To improve the efficiency of the whole process, we propose a bug processing framework that integrates bug report analysis and fault localization. An instance of the framework is implemented for regression faults. Preliminary results on a large open source application demonstrate both efficiency and effectiveness.
