Removing water fluctuation via motion field-based kernel regression

A new approach is proposed in this paper to recover the original image of an underwater scene from a given sequence distorted by water fluctuation. The contribution of our method is to use a motion field-based kernel regression to reconstruct an undistorted image. It first utilizes the image registration method to generate registered frames and the corresponding motion fields, and then detect a set of stationary patches from registered frames by calculating the movement energy of local regions. Finally, a temporal kernel regression is carried out to combine the detected stationary patches to reconstruct an undistorted stationary image. Experiments illustrate that this approach can effectively alleviate distortions and significantly improve visual quality of the distorted images. Copyright © 2014 Binary Information Press.

The development of digital substation provides new opportunity for integrated protection. However, the realization of integrated protection is constrained by serial communication between process level and bay level. Based on developed digital integrated protection and control system platform, the result of a physical simulation test concerning communication system reveals the problem of communication instability and packet loss. In this paper, the impact of GPS exerted on stability of integrated protection is tested and analyzed. Without GPS time setting of Merging Unit(MU) in different bay, the integrated protection system will lose data in one minute after running. With GPS, the communication is stable and reliable, but the time interval between two packets in a cycle is quite long. Since sampling of MU in different bay is synchronized by GPS, the availab.lity of integrated protection system is directly affected by communication of integrated protection in digital substation. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we focus on the need for autonomous vehicles' path planning and decision making in the urban environment. In our modified method, traffic lanes, road edge and geographic information system(GIS) are integrated to generate three structured road models, which can be used to reduce car's lateral positioning error and guarantee car's driving stably without a precise pre-computed map for localization. Based on these models, car's position, attitude and speed are taken into account to find an optimal guided path and a suitable behavior strategy to keep our car obeying traffic rules. Thus, in the whole architecture, the instability of some modules' detection results and low positioning accuracy of GPS receiver is resolved. Applied to our autonomous vehicle - IN 2 BOT, which has taken part in "Chinese Intelligent Vehicle Challenge" for many times, this method is proved more effective than our previous method after experiments under various conditions.

A substation three-phase nonlinear state estimation method based on zero impedance branches helps to identify topology and analogy errors at substation level and accordingly enhances the control center's state estimation reliability and accuracy. Some issues during the practical implementation process of the technology are reported, such as the hardware configuration, measurement integration, the communication between substation and control center, time setting and period selection. The benefits of the proposed technology have also been analyzed. It is shown that this technology has high reliability and low burden on communication, and improves the ability of monitoring of power grids and the reliability of the real-time power network model significantly. The proposed technology is verified effective by both simulation experiments and field-site applications in East China Power Grid, and is well qualified for real-time online applications, which has broad popularization and application prospects.

Most researches of traffic incident auto-detection are based on the data from fixed detectors, which are limited by costs and position. In order to resolve this problem, existing algorithms of traffic incident automatic detection are analyzed and compared, and an algorithm of traffic incident auto-detection are provided based on mobile-detection technology. The traffic data are grouped in 5-min intervals, analyzed by a three-layer BP neural network, and utilized for traffic incident detection. 16 traffic incidents of different locations and different levels are modeled in the simulation experiment based on VISSIM, and detection rate, false alarm rate and average detection time are adopted as indicators to evaluate the algorithm. Finally, the algorithm is proved to be effective and applicable in practice. © 2011 IEEE.

Neither electromechanical transient stability analysis (TSA) program nor electromagnetic transient (EMT) programs can be used individually for the transient stability studies of the large scale AC/DC systems. This paper presented an electromagnetic and electromechanical hybrid simulation system, based on a frequency dependent network equivalent. Firstly, the framework and the main modules of the proposed hybrid simulation system were introduced. Secondly, the methods to calculate the equivalents of the electromagnetic side and the electromechanical side were introduced. The discussion on the difference between the traditional method and frequency dependent network equivalent (FDNE) and the flowchart of the hybrid simulation were also given. In the last part of the paper, AC system and AC-DC hybrid system are both used as examples to demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed hybrid simulation system's simulation results. © 2012 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

Two-stage heuristic-correction for dynamic reactive power optimization based on relaxation-MPEC and MIQP

To achieve a fast approach to the dynamic reactive power optimization model, a mixed integer nonlinear programming model was set up, with consideration of the discrete reactive power equipment operation limit and power grid security constraints, to minimize the transmission losses. Furthermore, a method called heuristic search and variable correction was proposed that for the first stage, the discrete variables are relaxed into continuous ones, which leads to an optimization model with equilibrium constraints. According to the optimal value of relaxed model, a mixed integer quadratic programming model is formulated to minimize the objective of approximation variance, satisfied the discrete switching operation constraints in primary model. For the second stage, the continuous variables are redressed with respect to the determined discrete variables. The impact of adjustment step and operation limit on the optimal solution was fully studied in IEEE 14-bus test system. Besides, the result of IEEE 30, 57, 118 test systems show that an optimal solution can fast be obtained by proposed method, and the precision satisfies the actual engineering, which can also employ the parallel technology. © 2014 Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.

A new turning-mechanism for Amoeba-like Robot was proposed in this paper, which based on the amoeba-like robot kinematics characteristics of tail contracting and skin flipping. First, one kind of variable-speed node composed of the spring and damp was designed. Because of the existing of the variable-speed nodes, the velocities of the two strip-skins depended not only on the velocities of threads that gone through the variable-speed nodes, but also on the spring and damp it contained. So, although the velocities of threads that induced the velocities of the strip-skins were the same, the velocities of the strip-skins still can be different since the variable-speed nodes existed. That difference in velocities made the turning movement possible. Second, the dynamic model for the turning movement of the Amoeba-like Robot was established and analyzed. The analysis results included the angular velocity and angle curve related to time, which were computed with the dynamic model when shortening speed of thread's length was constant. The results achieved in this paper provided an important basic for the research on the behaviors and control strategy of amoeba-like robot. The new turning-mechanism can be popularized to the tracked mobile robot, for it provided a new and availab.e turning method.

Smart substation is the base of smart grid and it is made up of a lot of IEDs (intelligent electric device). Synchronized phasor measurement unit (PMU) plays a very important role in the smart grid, and a great deal of PMUs have been installed in China. The requirement of PMU in the smart substation is different from traditional substation. This paper introduces that the PMU is suitable for smart substation, there are several details that need to be complemented in IEC 61850 standards, and the paper gives some suggestion to improve it. © 2011 IEEE.

A substation topology error identification method based on comprehensive rules, including rules in different spatial scales such as element level, bay level and voltage level as well as rules in time sequence, is presented. Utilizing the superiority in multi-source, redundancy and rapid measurement in the substation, the multi spatial scale relevant rules of element, bay and voltage level as well as multi time sequence rules are proposed, and concrete implementation approach for such a method is given. The proposed method can improve the ability to identify the topology error, especially ability to identify switches without analog measurement, thus more reliable topological structure can be provided to control centre to improve the reliability of state estimation for the whole power system. Results of simulation and practical application show that the proposed method is effective.
