Epidemic spreading with variant infection rates on scale-free network

In this paper, we proposed a susceptible-infected model with variant infection rates because different individuals have different resistance to diseases in different periods of real epidemic events. We consider two cases: Case 1, we know every individual's infection rate to a kind of epidemic, satisfy a type of distribution. Case 2, assume all individuals have same initial infection rates, a susceptible individual's infection rate will be less than the initial rate if he is not infected after limited number of contacts with infected ones. For both two cases, at the time tD, preventive and control measures bring into effects, every individual's infection rate would decrease. We implemented this models on scale-free networks, and found that the epidemic process before the time tD in Case 1 is almost the same as that in Standard SI model if the infection rate in Standard SI model equals the mean infection rate in Case 1. Furthermore, using numerical simulation, we analysis the effects of the parameter tD, and find the bimodal distribution of final infection rates. Finally, we conclude what we get in this paper and give our future direction. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Electric power, potable water, telecommunications, natural gas, and transportation are examples of critical infrastructures, the intrinsic feature of which are suitable for network analysis. This paper proposes a method framework based on the complex network to explore the interdependency of these infrastructures. We describe the topological characterization of two interdependent small-sized real networks, based on which the interdependent model is devised. We define the interdependent factor to characterize the direct interdependency of two infrastructures, and also its fluctuation in the situations of random removal and targeted removal on the electric and water infrastructures is studied. Furthermore we propose a matrix M to reflect all direct and indirect interactions among infrastructures, which also makes contributions to the understanding of infrastructures catastrophes. © 2009 Springer Berlin Heidelberg.

Due to the constraints of manufacturing and materials,high-power plants cannot rely on only one solid oxide fuel cell stack.A multi-stack system is a solution for a highpower system,which consists of multiple fuel cell stacks.A short lifetime is one of the main challenges for the fuel cell before largescale commercial applications,and prognostic is an important method to improve the reliability of fuel *** from the traditional prognostic approaches applied to single-stack fuel cell systems,the key problem in multi-stack prediction is how to solve the correlation of multi-stack degradation,which can directly affect the accuracy of *** response to this difficulty,a standard Brownian motion is added to the traditional Wiener process to model the degradation of each stack,and then the probability density function of the remaining useful life(RUL)of each stack is ***,a Copula function is adopted to reflect the dependence between life distributions,so as to obtain the remaining useful life for the whole multi-stack system.1 The simulation results show that compared with the traditional prediction model,the proposed approach has a higher prediction accuracy for multi-stack fuel cell systems.

A new noise erosion operator for anisotropic diffusion

A noise erosion operator based on partial differential equation (PDE) is introduced, which has an excellent ability of noise removal and edge preservation for two-dimensional (2D) gradient data. The operator is applied to estimate a new diffusion coefficient. Experimental results demonstrate that anisotropic diffusion based on this new erosion operator can efficiently reduce noise and sharpen object boundaries.

Motion analysis can provide useful information for biomedical researches. In this paper, we have presented a video tracking system for limb motion measurement in small animals. The system employs a consumer-grade video camera to record the locomotion of a rat, which can reduce the cost of the system. Three matching methods are availab.e for different application. Moreover, a new algorithm to forecast the joint positions based on the polynomial fitting and improved Kalman filtering algorithms has been proposed, not only for limiting the region of matching, but also for marker occlusion and various maneuverability of the limb. Two methods are also applied to detect mismatch for ensuring a reliable tracking. Once 2D markers positions are collected, kinematic characteristics of the motion can be derived. Finally, the experimental results of the tracking system are presented. © 2010 IEEE.

Based on Particle Filter, Gravity Gradient-Terrain aided position technology is proposed in this paper. With the sensitivity of gravity gradient to terrain, the gravity gradient reference map can be computed from the local terrain elevation data. The position can be actualized through matching the real-time measured gravity gradient data to the prepared gravity gradient reference map. The most widely used approximate filtering method is the extended Kaman filter (EKF). EKF is computationally simple but, the convergence of the state estimation for the position is not guaranteed. Particle filter (PF) makes use of the non-linear state and measurement functions, no linearization technology is needed. PF can assure the convergence of the state estimation which follows from the classical results on convergence of Bayesian estimators. Simulations have been done and Particle filter has been shown to be a superior alternative to the EKF in the gravity gradient-terrain matching navigation systems. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

Efficient reconfigurable VLSI architecture for 1-D 5/3 and 9/7 wavelet transforms adopted in JPEG2000 proposal, based on lifting scheme is proposed. The embedded decimation technique based on fold and time multiplexing, as well as embedded boundary data extension technique, is adopted to optimize the design of the architecture. These reduce significantly the required numbers of the multipliers, adders and registers, as well as the amount of accessing external memory, and lead to decrease efficiently the hardware cost and power consumption of the design. The architecture is designed to generate an output per clock cycle, and the detailed component and the approximation of the input signal are availab.e alternately. Experimental simulation and comparison results are presented, which demonstrate that the proposed architecture has lower hardware complexity, thus it is adapted for embedded applications. The presented architecture is simple, regular and scalab.e, and well suited for VLSI implementation.

National-scale transportation systems are critical infrastructures to ensure the normal operation of the nation and offer essential services to modern societies. And they face a constant barrage of external stresses or threats that challenge their operation. This article analyzes the accessibility and vulnerability of the Chinese road, high-speed rail and airline systems. Firstly, it models the complementary relationship among road, high-speed rail and airline systems and takes them as an integrated transportation system (IRHAS). Then, the accessibility map from (to) the center of Beijing via IRHAS is displayed. Finally, modeling the extreme storm recently occurred in Zhengzhou as a reginal disruption, the vulnerability of the IRHAS is calculated. The findings in this paper provide guidance for city administrators to plan the road, high-speed rail, and airline systems as a whole. © 2022 IEEE.

Today, the world economy is in the stage of rapid development, followed by the rising quantity, the decreasing moisture content, and the increasing heat value of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). Since waste incineration has the advantages of excellent volume reduction effect, high resource utilization efficiency, and less secondary pollution to the environment, waste incineration disposal technology has received extensive attention worldwide. With the continuous increase of the urban population, the amount of sewage sludge is growing year by year. The process of the sludge incineration system is highly complicated, and the cost of construction and operation is high. The waste incinerator can process not only MSW but also sewage sludge. Therefore, the co-incineration of sewage sludge with MSW in the existing waste incinerator is a safe and effective way to dispose of sewage sludge. In this paper, the simulation results of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) are analyzed for medium-scale and large-scale waste incinerators, characterized by high moisture content, high ash content, low heat value of sewage sludge, and incomplete combustion and high pollutant emissions in waste incinerators. With FLIC-Fluent coupled simulation method, the critical information such as temperature field, velocity field, concentration field of principal components, and the pollutant emissions can be predicted. Based on the CFD simulation results, the performance and structure of waste incinerators can be optimized, and the new products can be designed and developed. © COPYRIGHT SPIE. A Hierarchical Optimizing Energy Management Strategy for Alleviating Degradation in Fuel Cell Hybrid System

This study designs an energy management strategy for fuel cell hybrid vehicles aimed to alleviating the performance degradation of Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFC), fuel consumption, and battery state of Charge (SOC) fluctuations during vehicle operation. The research focuses on the decrease in Electrochemical Surface Area (ECSA) due to Platinum (Pt) catalyst degradation, which is a key factor influencing PEMFC durability. An ECSA model based on the Pt dissolution mechanism is established, and a dynamic condition accelerated stress test (DC-AST) is designed to specifically investigate the impacts of key parameters, such as cycle period, amplitude, and duty cycle on the degradation of ECSA. This reveals the association between ECSA degradation and irregular potential fluctuations. A hierarchical power allocation strategy is then proposed, combining the global search capabilities of optimization algorithms with heuristic strategies in light of these features. The upper level employs Pontryagin's Minimum Principle (PMP) strategy for global power allocation optimization, while the lower level uses a satisfaction-based heuristic strategy that is tailored to the ECSA degradation characteristics, to dynamically adjust power output. Simulation results demonstrate that, compared to traditional rule-based strategies and classical PMP-based strategies, the proposed energy management strategy more effectively mitigates ECSA degradation of PEMFC under typical vehicle conditions.
