A novel approach is proposed to estimate the parameters of rotational motion blur. Firstly, the rotational blur was changed into translational motion blur by geometric transformation from Cartesian coordinate system to polar coordinate system. The characteristic of the translational motion blurred image in frequency domain was concluded. Then, the characteristic was further analyzed by a new definition of point spread function (PSF). Based on this, an object function was derived to describe the relationship between the parameter and the characteristic. At last, the statistical optimal parameter of the blur motion was obtained by traversing through the resolution space of the object function. The comparing experiment results demonstrate that the new method has better accuracy than traditional ones. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

The advance of image processing makes knowledge-based automatic image interpretation much more realistic than ever. In the domain of remote sensing image processing, the introduction of knowledge enhances the confidence of recognition of typical ground objects. There are mainly two approaches to employ knowledge: the first one is scattering knowledge in concrete program and relevant knowledge of ground objects are fixed by programming;the second is systematically storing knowledge in knowledge base to offer a unified instruction for each object recognition procedure. In this paper, a knowledge-based framework for ground objects recognition in remote sensing image is proposed. This framework takes the second means for using knowledge with a hierarchical architecture. The recognition of typical airport demonstrated the feasibility of the proposed framework. © 2009 Copyright SPIE - The International Society for Optical Engineering.

According to the drawback of the traditional circle target extraction algorithm used by Hough Transform, such as computation complexity, low efficiency and etc, an new circle target extraction algorithm is proposed in this paper which can extract multiple circle targets with different radius at one time. First, the Average Absolute Difference is implemented to enhance the edge of the circle targets and suppress the noise of the background; Second, the locally self-adaptive segmentation algorithm is implemented to obtain the binary image. Thirdly, the thinning algorithm is implanted to obtain the single pixel edge of the circle targets and in order to reduce the computation times in the following process, a pruning algorithm is necessary; finally, a modified Hough transform algorithm is proposed to obtain the circle targets. The new circle targets have three advantages: low time consuming, high detection rate, robust to noise and fragmentary boundaries. The experimental results demonstrate that the new algorithm can extract the multiple circle targets quickly and accurately.

Two of the most significant factors in the success of today's system-on-chip (SoC) designs are the ability to deliver efficient access to off-chip high speed memory and the ability to be compatible with several different interface-timings of several different sorts of memories. And the scheduling scheme of data streams for multi-master and multi-outstanding requests situation in complex SoC should be considered carefully, too. This paper introduces a novel general external memory interface (GEMI) architecture for the high performance and high flexibility memory interface. Several techniques and methods, i.e. data and command buffers based on asynchronous FIFO, optimized bank management, multi-port access scheduler, request reorder unit, are proposed in this paper for fulfilling the requirements mentioned above. Some techniques are specially proposed for data streams scheduling in complex SoC. At the end of the paper, the simulation and tape-out results are provided. The whole implementation of architecture is proven to be not only functional and efficient, but also flexible and reusable by simulation and silicon verification. © 2008 IEEE.

For applications involving video streaming, full decoding is usually not acceptable for quality assessment. To address the inherent challenges, an efficient method for coding distortion assessment is proposed in this paper. Building on empirical analysis, the proposed method employs a linear model to assess the coding distortion using the quantization scale. Furthermore, the characteristics of the human visual system are exploited by taking into account the spatial and temporal masking. To estimate the required spatial and temporal complexities in absence of sufficient information, a rate-distortion model is theoretically derived to formulate their relationship with the coding bit-rate. Extensive experimental results have demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method for quality assessment with respect to perceived coding distortion. ©2008 The Institution of Engineering and technology.

Image registration is widely used in remote sensing image processing, medical image analysis and many other fields. Mutual information-based image registration technique gained much attention recently. However, during the optimization procedure, because of the influence of interpolation and the changes of overlapping areas in the images, the object function of the mutual information method may converge at local maximums so that wrong transformation parameters are generated as a result. In this paper, an improved simulated annealing–simplex method is proposed to solve this problem. Experiment results show that registration precision can reach to the sub-pixel level.

This paper studies Regularized Discriminant Analysis (RDA) in the context of automatic airport recognition system for Forward-Looking infrared images (FLIR). When the within class covariance of training sample are sometimes singular, Linear and Quadratic discriminant analysis (LDA & QDA) does not necessarily give the best performance. Alternatives to the usual plug-in (maximum likelihood) estimates for the covariance matrices are proposed, which is called two-parameter RDA in this paper. Here, we check two-parameter RDA availab.lity and compare its performance in our recognition system to other classifiers, such as KNN, LDA, QDA etc. The experimental results demonstrate the efficacy of the two parameters RDA classifier for automatic airport recognition in FLIR images. On the basis of RDA classifier, our proposed recognition system frame was concluded to be a highly prospective candidate for real time ATR system on airport and can also be used on other ATR system, such as building, power plant etc.

The imaging laser radar was an ideal imaging sensor to get the high precision 3D terrain for Terrain aided navigation (TAN). For the application, decreasing the mismatching rate was very important. In this paper, the measurement model of imaging laser radar was introduced and a novel 3D terrain matching algorithm with low mismatching rate was presented. According to the theory of function orthogonal decomposition, a terrain orthogonal decomposition feature vector (TODFV), composed of the orthogonal decomposition coefficients of the digital elevation map (DEM), was employed to represent the features of the terrain. Then TODFV was used to generate an interim matching position vector (IMPV). The IMPV were utilized to do real-time confidence analysis to improve the matching confidence, and were fused to give the final matching at the last. The algorithm could effectively decrease the mismatching rate of terrain matching algorithm, and improved the reliability of TAN. Experiments showed that the algorithm was effective and robust.

The imaging laser radar is fine measure equipment for TAN with the ability to get the high precision 3D terrain. A 3D terrain matching processor was needed to be designed for the specifical application. In this paper, base on the specialty of the imaging laser radar, the3D terrain matching processor was designed, with scheme of DSP+FPGA calculating engine, multi-level memory system, flexible parallel architecture, and FPGA-embedded accelerators. A parallel correlating accelerator base on 2D modular systolic array and other structures were designed to improve the system performance in FPGA. In the end, with strictly abiding the rules of high-speed circuit designing, the detail physical implement was drawn out. The experiments showed that the system could work well in the harsh military environment with high real-time, high reliability, and flexible architecture.

The whole implementation of architecture is proven to be not only functional and efficient, but also flexible, programmable and reusable by simulation and silicon verification.
