Two kinds of powders of 3 mol. % yttria stabilized zirconia (3Y-TZP) with different particles sizes;one was 20 nm denoted by N whereas the other was 0.5 μm denoted by M, were mechanically mixed via ball milling machine using different amounts of N wt. % to obtain multiscale zirconia composite powder. Then the mixed powders were sintered by field assisted sintering technique (FAST). The effect of N content on the microstructure as well as on mechanical properties of zirconia is investigated. Results show that the microstructure of M completely surrounded by N emerged in zirconia composites, and tetragonal phase is presented in all the sintered samples. The obtained zirconia ceramics with 15 wt. % N own a highly dense structure (∼99.9% relative density) and high flexural strength of 813.59 MPa wherein a 15 % increase in flexural strength compared to zirconia ceramics without adding N, but the fracture toughness of the composites just lightly decreases. The improved flexural strength of the composites is caused by the multiscale effect. © 2016 Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

The investing casting is a manufacturing method offering accurate dimensions and excellent surface quality. In this paper, an industrial test about the process of bimetal composited pipe fitting by the method of investment casting was carried out and the result showed the defect of misrun formed at the bottom of inwall metal. In order to improve the defect of misrun, numerical simulation was applied to study the process of investing casting. According to the simulation results, some practicability methods such as changing preheating temperature, filling time and pouring system were proposed to solve the defect of bimetal composited pipe fittings.

Compared with direct thrust control and vector control methods, the model predictive control (MPC) is recognized as a more effective approach. However, the weighting factors in the objective function must be tuned, which greatly increases the computation burden. In this work, based on the fuzzy technique, one weighting factor optimization method is proposed to identify the suitable control action for the linear induction machine (LIM), which can effectively simplify the selection process. At last, comprehensive simulation results have demonstrated the excellent performance of the proposed method. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper focuses on the pulse compression of wideband V-style frequency modulation (V-FM) signals, where the pulse compression of the received V-FM signals is achieved by the dual-channel dechirping. The compressed signals of one channel after pulse compression is flipped left to right and added to the compressed signals of another channel after pulse compression to achieve the final signals of the V-FM signals after pulse compression. Simulated trials are conducted to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm in pulse compression of the V-FM signals. © 2017 Association for Computing Machinery.

The polarization of radar antenna vary with scan direction. This phenomenon is called Spatial Polarization Characteristic (SPC) of antenna. Based on the SPC of single polarized antenna, a novel polarization estimation method is established. Comparing with the traditional estimation method, this one has the following advantages: (i) It does not need dual-polarization channels to estimate the signal polarization;(ii) The polarization and angle of arriving(AOA) of a periodic signal can be estimated simultaneously;(iii) The full-polarization pattern of the antenna can be matched automatically during the estimation. The feasibility of this method is proved by simulation. © 2013 European Microwave Association.

A compact and uniform (Ti, Si, O, N)/Ti composite coating was fabricated on the surface of a NiTi shape memory alloy (SMA) (containing 50.8 at.% Ni) using plasma immersion ion implantation and deposition (PIIID) with radio-frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering. The coating and coated NiTi SMA were studied using various techniques. Analysis showed that the Ni content was drastically reduced on the surface of coated samples due to coating formation. This could greatly improve the biocompatibility of NiTi SMA. There was no TiO2 or TiN formation in the coating. The shape memory ability of NiTi SMA samples was no deteriorated by the coating process. The coating significantly improved the corrosion resistance and wear resistance of NiTi SMA and also rendered the material bioactive. © 2010 Materials Research Society.

Connection frame has been a key module in a macro-micro platform. The error of connection frame deformation must be taken into account for nano-positioning motion in working process. While working, the nano-positioning motion is affected by the two major deformation error sources: magnetic force and thermal structural coupling effects. These error models were built by response surface method. Each experiment result can be obtained by calculation of finite element method. Their input variables of orthogonal experiment design were imported to the commercial software ANSYS to calculate and obtain output. The response surface model was built by the input and output data. Based on these models, change trends of deformation errors with design parameters can be revealed. And an optimal model of total deformations errors would be built. Finally, the minimum error of connection frame deformation considering magnetic force and thermal structural coupling effect was calculated by genetic algorithm. The optimal solutions were obtained when the total error iterate to 15 times as follows, D=32mm, L1=80mm, R=64mm. The improvement of deformation error considering magnetic force, thermal-structural coupling force and high acceleration is 86.48%, 0.26%, 26.85% These results can provide a more accurate prediction of error analysis in more widely used cases and also offer a theoretical support for improving nano-positioning accuracy of macro-micro platform. © 2014 IEEE.

Due to the hybrid composition of half-bridge submodule (HBSM) and full-bridge sub-module (FBSM) in each phase arm, hybrid modular multilevel converter (MMC) is able to actively adjust the output DC voltage and operate under reduced DC voltage. Sub-module balancing is one of the most concerned issues regarding low DC voltage operation. This paper analyzes the impact of sub-module balancing constraint on the active and reactive power transfer ability of hybrid MMC. The calculation method of the marginal active and reactive power limited by sub-module balancing constraint is presented, considering the characteristics of arm current and arm output voltage. The effect of DC voltage on the feasible operating area is studied. The proposed method can be treated as the empirical formulas to estimate the feasible active and reactive power range.

ZAO (ZnO: Al)/Al and ITO/Ag complex back-reflectors were successfully applied to substrate nip and superstrate pin amorphous silicon solar cells respectively. As a result, the short circuit current (Isc) for a cell with a complex back-reflector increases significantly as compared with a cell without a complex back-reflector. For a superstrate pin cell prepared on SnO2 coated glass, the short-circuit current even increases up to 30%. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
