Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) target recognition faces the challenges that there are limited lab.led data. Recent limited data SAR target recognition algorithms overlook the domain knowledge of the target. Domain knowledge enhanced deep neural network (DK-ConvNet) is proposed in this study, which considers the azimuth angle, the length-width-ratio and the targets' area of SAR vehicles, to overcome the over-fitting problems of limited data. The information of vehicle domain knowledge is merged to the probability output of A-ConvNet. To extract the domain knowledge accurately, the segmentation results in the SARBake database are also used. All experiments are conducted under the public moving and stationary target acquisition and recognition (MSTAR) database. Our proposed DK-ConvNet has achieved 72.2% and 93.1% under 10-way 10-shot and 10-way 30-shot in standard operation condition (SOC), whose lab.led samples are randomly selected from the training set and DK-ConvNet demonstrated advantages in accuracy compared with other limited data classification methods as well. © 2021 IEEE.

A new polarization property of chaff cloud is found, differential reflectivity varying with height during diffusion. The differential reflectivity (ZDR) of chaff fiber can be predicted as a function of time and initial orientation. The description of the chaff properties statistical changes from integrated to sectional, which Using this property, distribution curve of differential reflectivity will be plotted after the release of chaff fiber. The results of differential reflectivity stratification can be used as an explanation of the chaff event at the key West, FL KBYX WSR-88D site on 17 June 2016. © 2018 IEEE.

In order to achieve effective interference with multi-directional early warning radar and cover our combat targets in the process of implementing airborne high-value combat target surprise defense, a Van Atta retracing array based on 14-sided Archimedes polyhedral configuration is proposed, and a Van Atta array unit with positive hexagonal distribution is designed according to the polyhedral configuration. The research results show that this scattering polyhedron has a compact structure with the advantage of omnidirectional scattering, and has good potential for application in scenarios requiring strong omnidirectional retrieval capability. © 2023 Applied Computational electromagnetics Society (ACES).

Polarimetric circular synthetic aperture radar (CSAR) can obtain the 360° full-azimuth polarization information of target. Due to the anisotropy of most manmade targets, there are great differences in the polarization scattering characteristics at different observation angles. However, full-aperture processing is the coherent accumulation imaging of the full-azimuth polarimetric data directly, which may result in the failure of obtaining the target's polarization characteristics at each azimuth. Focus on this issue, a polarimetric CSAR imaging method using joint sub-aperture processing is proposed. The proposed method mainly contains three steps. Firstly, the polarimetric data is divided into multiple sub-aperture data since manmade targets usually exhibit scattering anisotropic properly. Then, the sub-aperture images are obtained using the back projection (BP) algorithm. Finally, the joint processing image is obtained via combining the maximum SPAN value among all sub-aperture images. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated using the simulated data of civilian vehicle. Compared with the full-aperture images, the sub-aperture images achieve better image contrast and lower image entropy. In this vein, the image quality of the polarimetric CSAR from the proposed method is enhanced. © 2022 IEEE.

Multi-temporal polarimetric synthetic aperture radar (PolSAR) image is an important tool to monitor crops growth and evaluate disaster damage. The multi-temporal PolSAR data has the high dimensional representation. Benefited from the tensor analysis, a three dimensional polarimetric scattering tensor is established. The polarimetric scattering tensor eigenvalue decomposition is proposed to derive the polarimetric features, which are polarimetric tensor entropy, polarimetric tensor alpha angle and polarimetric tensor anisotropy, respectively. Multi-temporal PolSAR image classification is applied to validate the effectiveness of the proposed features. To further improve the classification accuracy, the 1 × 1 convolutional kernel is introduced to learn the inter-temporal information. For the multi-temporal UAVSAR datasets, the proposed method achieves the excellent classification accuracy in the multi-temporal PolSAR image classification. © 2022 IEEE.

In this letter, a segmentation method is proposed based on an adaptive Bayesian non-local MRF (ABNL-MRF) model. Aimed at the multiplicative speckle existing in SAR images, a patch-similarity measure based on a ratio of probability is introduced firstly. Then non-local similar pixel-blocks are adopted to guide the segmentation of the noisy image. However, non-local method over-smoothes edge regions and makes them inaccurate though it is robust for speckle. A rectification index is designed according to the homogeneity degree of local window. Based on the value of rectification index, a non-local constraint term is adaptively integrated into the potential function. Thus a suitable prior is defined that guarantees both the smoothness of the denoised image and the preservation of its structure. Experimental results demonstrate the very good performance of the proposed method. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

The overlapping and mutual coupling between transmitting and receiving signals is a knotty problem in radar radiation simulation. Interrupted transmitting and receiving (ITR) modulation can effectively solve this problem caused by limited space of the microwave chamber. In order to further expand the application of ITR modulation method, the characteristics of periodically-coded interrupted modulation signals are analyzed in this paper. Focusing on the modulated pulse coded modulation (PCM) signal, the time-frequency domain characteristics and matched filter output characteristics are studied in detail. Signal simulation experiments are carried out with MATlab.to verify the accuracy of the theoretical analysis. © 2022 IEEE.

The optimal multiple linear constraint minimal variance (LCMV) beamformer is presented under multiple desired signals case. The theoretical solutions of the optimal weighted vector and maximum signal-to-interference-plus-noise-ratio (SINR) are derived by using variable substitution method. Simulation results show that the algorithm is superior to the traditional LCMV approach in the SINR, computational load and applicability. The algorithm can be applied in the area of radar tracking of low-angle targets and polarization radar signal processing.

In order to realize good omnidirectional backtracking of electromagnetic waves, a Van Atta cube scatterer consists of six identical Van Atta plane arrays is proposed. In this paper, the scattering characteristics in different incident directions are emphatically studied. Simulation results show that the Van Atta cube scatterer has the advantage of omnidirectional scattering, with the effective backtracking angle range exceeding 77% of the whole angle domain. © 2022 IEEE.
