Most existing language modeling approaches are based on the term independence hypothesis. To go beyond this assumption, two main directions were investigated. The first one considers the use of the proximity features that capture the degree to which search terms appear close to each other in a document. Another one considers the use of semantic relationships between words. Previous studies have proven that these two types of information, including term proximity features and semantic relationships between words, are both useful to improve retrieval performance. Intuitionally, we can use them in combination to further improve retrieval performance. Based on this idea, this paper propose a positional translation language model to explicitly incorporate both of these two types of information under language modeling framework in a unified way. In the first step, we present a proximity-based method to estimate word-word translation probabilities. Then, we define a translation document model for each position of a document and use these document models to score the document. Experimental results on standard TREC collections show that the proposed model achieves significant improvements over the state-of-the-art models, including positional language model, and translation language models. © 2014 Springer International Publishing.

The paper proposes a novel approach based on the hierarchical timed automata to verify the consistency of dynamic evolution process. Different from traditional approaches, it investigates the problem from the behavioral perspective and examines the procedures before, during and after the evolution process. Furthermore, our approach can support the direct modeling of temporal aspects, as well as the hierarchical structures. A flattening algorithm is presented to facilitate the automated verification using the mainst.eam timed automata based model checker - UPPAAL. A motivating example is discussed and demonstrates the feasibility of our approach. © 2014 ACM.

The precise prediction of bus routes or the arrival time of buses for a traveler can enhance the quality of bus service. However, many social factors influence people's preferences for taking buses. These social factors may include heavy traffic cost, traffic congestion, poor air quality and so forth. Existing prediction techniques rarely consider social sensing when predicting the bus arrival time. Accordingly, this paper proposes a social sensing enhanced service for predicting bus routes, which integrates sensing ability and social networks to understand and measure the influence between social events and vehicle velocity. We focus on the analysis of two different attributions: PT service quality attributions PEA s and road condition attributions PRCA s. Both of them synthesize the social sensing in their evaluation of bus routes. PEA represents individual preferences and PRCA represents physical factors that significantly influence vehicle velocity. Bus relevant social events were further categorized into PEA events or PRCA events. PEA s of buses were scored according to the tendency of bus conditions reflected in social events. Furthermore, an artificial neural network prediction model is established to estimate the bus travel time. Copyright © 2015 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Misclassification of bug reports inevitably sacrifices the performance of bug prediction models. Manual examinations can help reduce the noise but bring a heavy burden for developers inst.ad. In this paper, we propose a hybrid approach by combining both text mining and data mining techniques of bug report data to automate the prediction process. The first stage leverages text mining techniques to analyze the summary parts of bug reports and classifies them into three levels of probability. The extracted features and some other structured features of bug reports are then fed into the machine learner in the second stage. Data grafting techniques are employed to bridge the two stages. Comparative experiments with previous studies on the same data -- three large-scale open source projects -- consistently achieve a reasonable enhancement (from 77.4% to 81.7%, 73.9% to 80.2% and 87.4% to 93.7%, respectively) over their best results in terms of overall performance. Additional comparative empirical experiments on other two popular open source repositories confirm the findings and demonstrate the benefits of our approach.

Cooling system is one of the key components in data centers and consumes nearly half of the total energy. For the safety and efficiency of a data enter, cooling system should guarantee all the servers running in a suitable temperature. Thus, the cooling efficiency becomes lower as the occurrence of hot spots, because the whole cooling system will accordingly work in a strong cooling mode, which leads to overcooling. One of the key challenges toward this problem is to build an effective and efficient online task scheduling to balance the inlet temperature of the servers in a data enter. In this paper, we investigate the thermal model in a data enter, and we formulate the task placement problem to an optimization problem with the purpose to minimize the maximum inlet temperature of all servers. To get higher accuracy, we proposed a dynamic thermal model updated with the real data from temperature sensors. We solve the formulated problem in an approximate way and design a first-fit decreasing task placement algorithm with the idea of CPU budget. Finally, the effectiveness and accuracy of our algorithm are confirmed by experiments on a real test bed.

Opposition-based learning (OBL) scheme is an effective mechanism to enhance soft computing techniques, but it also has some limitations. To extend the OBL scheme, this paper proposes a novel rotation-based learning (RBL) mechanism, in which a rotation number is achieved by applying a specified rotation angle to the original number along a specific circle in two-dimensional space. By assigning different angles, RBL can search any point in the search space. Therefore, RBL could be more flexible than OBL to find the promising candidate solutions in the complex search spaces. In order to verify its effectiveness, the RBL mechanism is embedded into differential evolution (DE) and the rotation-based differential evolution (RDE) algorithm is introduced. Experimental studies are conducted on a set of widely used benchmark functions. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of RBL mechanism, and the proposed RDE algorithm performs significantly better than, or at least comparable to, several state-of-the-art DE variants. © Springer International Publishing Switzerland 2014.

Hybrid systems is a mathematical model of embedded systems, and has been widely used in the design of complex embedded systems. In this chapter, we will introduce our systematic approach to formal modelling, analysis and verification of hybrid systems. In our framework, a hybrid system is modelled using Hybird CSP (HCSP), and specified and reasoned about by Hybrid Hoare Logic (HHL), which is an extension of Hoare logic to hybrid systems. For deductive verification of hybrid systems, a complete approach to generating polynomial invariants for polynomial hybrid systems is proposed;meanwhile, a theorem prover for HHL that can provide tool support for the verification has been implemented. We give some case studies from real world, for inst.nce, Chinese High-Speed Train Control System at Level 3 (CTCS-3). In addition, based on our invariant generation approach, we consider how to synthesize a switching logic for a considered hybrid system by reduction to constraint solving, to meet a given safety, liveness, optimality requirement, or any of their combinations. We also discuss other issues of hybrid systems, e.g., stability analysis. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.

In Delay Tolerant Networks (DTNs), the connections between mobile nodes are intermittent and constant end-to-end paths rarely exist. In order to achieve high delivery ratio, most existing DTN routing algorithms favor the ''multi-hop forwarding'' fashion where a message can be forwarded by multiple relay nodes in the hope that one of the employed relay nodes can deliver the message to the destination node. Since aggressively employing relay nodes may incur intolerable delivery cost to resource-constrained mobile nodes in DTNs, it is significant to design a cost-efficient routing protocol that can achieves high delivery ratio. In this paper, we first utilize the small-world feature to limit the maximum forwarding hops in a reasonable way and then propose a greedy relay node selection strategy. A cost-efficient social-aware forwarding algorithm called TBSF (the-best-so-far) is then presented. Extensive simulations on real mobility traces are conducted to evaluate the performance of TBSF. Simulation results show that, in comparison with several well-known routing algorithms, TBSF can achieve high performance in terms of delivery ratio and delivery delay while with much lower delivery cost. © 2013 IEEE.
