Since the investors often react to news and consequently make stock prices move, financial news has an impact on stock prices. However, the price adjustment process is a complex one. In this paper, a statistical learning methodology has been proposed to analyze the time lag between the price moves and the released news. We firstly set up a news-price mapping model to study the relationships among the price moves and the volume of the news articles. Cross validation has also been used to test the time lag. Experiments have been conducted by using the daily data sources in 2002 in the Hong Kong stock exchange market, and the results have showed that in most cases, the time lag is approximately equal to 1 day. © 2011 IEEE.

With the fast economic growth and urbanization of many developing countries come concerns that their children now have fewer opportunities to express creativity and develop collab.ration skills, or to experience their local cultural heritage. We propose to address these concerns by creating technologies inspired by traditional arts, and allowing children to create and collab.rate through playing with them. ShadowStory is our first attempt in this direction, a digital storytelling system inspired by traditional Chinese shadow puppetry. We present the design and implementation of ShadowStory and a 7-day field trial in a primary school. Findings illustrated that ShadowStory promoted creativity, collab.ration, and intimacy with traditional culture among children, as well as interleaved children's digital and physical playing experience. For a long time, the fault diagnosis and assessment for power transformer is a quite complex and difficult problem. In this paper, we propose a transformer fault diagnosis method based on fuzzy theory. The dissolved gas concentrations are set as the inputs of the system, and a fuzzy system group is appLied to build the intelLigent diagnosis system. The parameters of the system, including the input dimension, output dimension, and the membership functions, can be set up in whole or separately in the system. To test the effectiveness of the proposed method, it is appLied to the practice dataset. The experiment results show that the fuzzy system group improves the accuracy of assessment greatly compared with fuzzy system and BP neural networks. Also, the knowledge system of power transformer fault diagnosis can be built up completely by the proposed method. © 2011 IEEE.

For parallel applications running on high-performance clusters, performance is usually satisfied without paying much attention to energy consumption. In this paper, we develop a new scheduling algorithm called Energy efficient Scheduling Algorithm based on DVS and Dynamic threshold (ESADD), which combines dynamic threshold-based task duplication strategy with dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) technique. It first exploits an optimal threshold to get the optimal task grouping and leverage task duplication algorithm to reduce schedule length and communication energy, and then schedules the applications on DVS-enabled processors that can scale down their voltages to reduce computation energy whenever tasks have slack time due to task dependencies. Using simulations we show our algorithm not only maintains good performance, but also has a good improvement on energy efficiency for parallel applications. © 2011 IEEE.

The crosscutting phenomena has been found at architectural level. Using aspects, AOP effectively solves the code tangling problem produced by the crosscutting phenomena at code level. This paper presents an approach to aspect-oriented software architecture design by introducing the concept of aspects into the process of software architecture design. We describe the regular architectural structure with the basic design elements of ACME, and represent the architectural aspects with the proposed extension of ACME. The example of an Online Bookstore System has been used to illustrate our proposal. © 2011 IEEE.

Similarity matching is one of the most important operations for data mining over time series. But previous works mainly focus on certain data. With the development of the internet of things and sensor networks, uncertain time series are emerging from various sources, which is a new challenge for data processing. In this paper, a novel similarity matching algorithm over uncertain time series is proposed based on a simple model representing the uncertain time series. According to the certainty of the query time series and the database, similarity matching is classified to three types. Then a certain time series is extracted to represent the original uncertain time series. Finally, a similarity search algorithm for certain time series is adopted. Experimental evaluation shows that our algorithm has high efficiency for similarity matching over uncertain time series. © 2011 IEEE.

In this paper, we present a novel color-mood-aware technique to re-texture clothing in a photograph. An efficient classification algorithm is developed to classify clothing textures using color mood scheme. To re-texture the clothing, our approach first computes the gradient maps for the cloth region to be replaced and then calculates the texture distortion coordinates on the projected cloth region according to the gradient maps. After the user selects a target clothing texture from the classified clothing texture database, the lighting and shading effects on the original photograph is transferred using the HSV color space. Experimental results show that the proposed approach successfully re-textures the clothes in photographs while preserving the geometry and lighting features. © 2011 IEEE.

Web service schema matching is the preliminary treatment phase of service composition and service mashup. With the entry and exit of large numbers of services on the Internet, it will be difficult to find and suggest the most relevant service candidates for new composition and mashup. In this work, we present an approach for web service schema matching based on characteristic vector consisted of multi-type service parameter information element. This schema matching approach is different form the main syntactical-based and semantic-based matching approaches, and will predict schema relationship more effectively and adaptable for web service. An experiment on real data shows the effectiveness of this approach. © 2011 IEEE.
