This paper presents an innovative style-wise advertising platform for web page. Web page "style" mainly refers to visual effects, such as color and layout. Unlike the most popular ad-network such as Google AdSense which needs publishers to change the original structure of their pages and define the position and style of the embedded ads manually, style-wise page advertising aims to automatically deliver style-consistent ads at proper positions within the web page, without breaking the layout of the original page. Our system is motivated from the fact that almost 90% web pages contain blank regions without any content. Given a web page with some blank regions, style-wise page advertising is able to detect the suitable blank areas for advertising, rank the ads according to the semantic relevance and web page style, and embed relevant ads into these nonintrusive areas. Style-wise page advertising represents one of the first attempts towards contextual advertising which enables the publishers to save effort when applying online advertising services. © 2010 International World Wide Web Conference Committee (IW3C2).

As we know, service-aware computing is an important part of pervasive computing for Web-based mobile application with uncertainty. We modified the fusion method of evidence information after considering context's reliability, time-efficiency, and relativity, which has improved the classical fusion rule of D-S (Dempster-Shafer) Evidence Theory when being used in the pervasive computing paradigm. We call it EDS. After extending the process, we overcome the drawbacks of classical D-S Evidence Theory. All these suggested technologies have been successfully used in our service-aware computing projects. The efficiency of our researches has been shown by our many application practices. © 2010 IEEE.

A novel 3D shape matching method is proposed in this paper. We first extract angular and distance feature pairs from pre-processed 3D models, then estimate their kernel densities after quantifying the feature pairs into a fixed number of bins. During 3D matching, we adopt the KL-divergence as a distance of 3D comparison. Experimental results show that our method is effective to match similar 3D shapes, and robust to model deformations or rotation transformations. © 2010 IEEE.

Context-awareness is an essential feature of pervasive applications, and runtime detection of contextual properties is one of the primary approaches to enabling context-awareness. However, existing context-aware middleware does not provide sufficient support for detection of contextual properties in asynchronous environments. We argue that in asynchronous environments, the concept of time needs to be reexamined. inst.ad of assuming the availab.lity of global time or synchronous interaction, we should rely on logical time. To this end, we present the Middleware Infrastructure for Predicate detection in Asynchronous environments (MIPA), which supports context-awareness based on logical time. Design and operation of MIPA are explained in detail. We also evaluate MIPA with a comprehensive case study. The evaluation results show the cost-effectiveness and scalab.lity of MIPA. © 2010 IEEE.

Detection of contextual properties is one of the primary approaches to enabling context-awareness. In order to adapt to temporal evolution of the pervasive computing environment, context-aware applications often need to detect behavioral properties specified over the contexts. This problem is challenging mainly due to the intrinsic asynchrony of pervasive computing environments. However, existing schemes implicitly assume the availab.lity of a global clock or synchronous coordination, thus not working in asynchronous environments. We argue that in pervasive computing environments, the concept of time needs to be reexamined. Toward this objective, we propose the Ordering Global Activity (OGA) algorithm, which detects behavioral contextual properties in asynchronous environments. The essence of our approach is to utilize the message causality and its on-the-fly coding as logical vector clocks. The OGA algorithm is implemented and evaluated based on the open-source context-aware middleware MIPA. The evaluation results show the impact of asynchrony on the detection of contextual properties, which justifies the primary motivation of our work. They also show that OGA can achieve accurate detection of contextual properties in dynamic pervasive computing environments. © 2010 IEEE.

Chip multiprocessor technique has been implemented in embedded systems due to the tremendous computation requirements. Three dimension chip multiprocessor architecture has been studied recently for integrating more functionalities and providing higher performance. The high temperature on chip is a critical issue for the 3D architecture. In this paper, we propose an online thermal prediction model for 3D chip. Using this model, we present a task scheduling algorithm based on rotation scheduling to reduce the peak temperature on chip. We consider the data dependencies, especially the inter-iteration dependencies which are not well considered in most of the current thermal-aware task scheduling algorithms. Our simulation result shows that our algorithm can efficiently reduce the peak temperature up to 10 °C. © 2010 IEEE.

Multi-core technologies are widely used in embedded systems. Stochastic resource allocation can guarantee certain quality of the services (QoS). In heterogeneous embedded system resource allocation, execution time distributions of different tasks on cores are predicted before scheduling. The difference between actual execution time and estimated execution time may lead to allocations which are not robust. In this paper, we present an evaluation of impacts of inaccurate information on resource allocation. We propose a systematic measure of the robustness degradation and evaluate how inaccurate probability parameters affect the robustness of resource allocations. Furthermore, we compare the performance of three widely used greedy heuristics when using the inaccurate information. © 2010 IEEE.

Recently, cluster synchronization has attracted an increasing interest in various disciplines, includingmathematics, physics, and engineering sciences. This paper further investigates the cluster synchronization of a complex dynamical network by using adaptive and impulsive control techniques, respectively. Based on a complex dynamical network with two different clusters, several adaptive and impulsive cluster synchronization criteria are then proposed. It should be especially pointed out that the dynamics and its dimensions of the individual dynamical systems are different in the two different clusters. Also, some numerical simulations are given to verify the effectiveness of the above theoretical results. ©2010 IEEE.

With the advance of semiconductor, multi-core architecture is inevitable in today's embedded system design. Nested loops are usually the most critical part in multimedia and high performance DSP (Digital Signal Processing) systems. Hence, maximizing loop parallelism is an important issue to improve the performance of a modern compiler. This paper studies how to maximize the system performance with the consideration of energy reduction for applications with multidimensional nested loops on multi-core DSP architectures. An algorithm, EALPM (Energy-Aware Loop Parallelism Maximization), is proposed in this paper. We implemented a two phase strategy. First, the strategy uses retiming and loop transformation to parallelize nested loops. Then the strategy employs a novel voltage assignment algorithm to reduce total energy consumption. The experimental results show that on average, both performance and energy-saving can be significantly improved using the EALPM algorithm. © 2010 IEEE.

Previous Multiple Kernel Learning approaches (MKL) employ different kernels by their linear combination. Though some improvements have been achieved over methods using single kernel, the advantages of employing multiple kernels for machine learning are far from being fully developed. In this paper, we propose to use "high order kernels" to enhance the learning of MKL when a set of original kernels are given. High order kernels are generated by the products of real power of the original kernels. We incorporate the original kernels and high order kernels into a unified localized kernel logistic regression model. To avoid over-fitting, we apply group LASSO regularization to the kernel coefficients of each training sample. Experiments on image classification prove that our approach outperforms many of the existing MKL approaches. © 2010 IEEE.
