UML is a good tool to represent ontologies. When using UML for Ontology development, one of the principal goals is to assure the quality of ontologies. UML class diagrams provide a static modeling capability that is well suited for representing ontologies, so the structural complexity of a UML class diagram is one of the most important measures to evaluate the quality of the ontologies. This paper uses weighted class dependence graphs to represent a given class diagrams, and then presents a structure complexity measure for the UML class diagrams based on entropy distance. It considers complexity of both classes and relationships between the classes, and presents rules for transforming complexity value of classes and different lands of relations into a weighted class dependence graphs. This method can measure the structure complexity of class diagrams objectively.

The work present a recurrent neural network-based approach for modal parameters identification of structure-unknown systems. The proposed approach involves two steps. The first step is to build a recurrent neural network to map the complex nonlinear relation between the excitations and responses of the structure-unknown system by off-line learning. The second step is to propose a procedure to determine the modal parameters of the system from the trained neural networks. The dynamic characteristics of the structure are directly evaluated from the weighting matrices of the trained recurrent neural network. Furthermore, an illustrative example demonstrates the feasibility of using the proposed method to identify modal parameters of structure-unknown systems. The method proposed can be used to research on fault diagnosis of engineer structure.

The accuracy of concrete strength inspection has a great influence on the safety evaluation of the building. In order to increase the accuracy, Fuzzy Neural Network (FNN) was built up to evaluate concrete strength. It takes full advantage of the characteristics of the common concrete testing methods: drill and rebound, and the abilities of FNN including automatic learning, generation and fuzzy logic inference. The experiment shows that the max relative error of the predicted results is 1.12%, which is satisfied with the requirements of the engineering. The method efficiently maps the complex non-linear relationship between the drill values and the rebound values, and provides a efficient way for the concrete strength inspection and evaluation.

The effect of roundoff noise in a digital controller is analysed for a digital feedback control system. An analytical expression for the roundoff noise gain, defined as the ratio between the variances of the output error and the rounding error, is obtained. The problem of identifying the minimum roundoff noise realisations can be solved using an existing procedure. Noting that the optimal realisations are fully parametrised, based on a polynomial operator approach a new sparse controller realisation is derived. This realisation is a generalisation of the direct forms in the classical shift operator and the prevailing delta-operator. It provides more degrees of freedom with which to reduce the roundoff noise. The problem of finding optimal polynomial operators can be solved by an exhaustive search, and a design example is given. It is shown that with the proposed sparse realisation the optimal polynomial operators can outperform the shift- and delta-operators.
